Not really talking about their talented football team, and their awesome running back, DAWSON...who was a man among boys out there. I'm talking about the PM fans. OMG...you guys are amazing. To have a following for a game so far away, speaks volumes to your support, dedication and school spirit for the fighting Blues. You fans are amazing. I wish this area, (NND) had that type of fan hype....fan base....fan pride....Cars with "Blue" written on windows , dominated the WL parking lot. When we arrived, the PM fans far outnumbered the Home crowd. FAR!! To travel that far with the temps hovering around 20, shows a dedication not seen anywhere near here, congrats. Im impressed. Now, good luck against Altavista next week. You guys played well tonight.
Congrats to WL for a good season. And congrats to Essex and CB for your wins tonight.

details? Dawson's stats etc.? Passing? and yes, he is a man among boys. He earned much adoration and respect from the Essex crowd from last year's game.

Should be an interesting and wild one with an great, amazing atmosphere next week when PM (12-0) travels not so far this time to Altavista (12-0). Could PM pull off the upset? Would it be considered a big upset if so?

Yes, those fans are great out there. Still remember those awesome John Battle fans from two years ago and FC brought a ton as well.

Great season to W&L.

According to the newspaper that covers PM, Dawson had 426 all purpose yards with 254 yards rushing and 4 TDs. Arthur added 169 yards rushing

Re: wow

Good question. Looks like you can't solely key on Dawson because Arthur is also well over 1000 yards rushing as well. Should be an interesting game

Ah just it back to FFX. What a pretty area you guys have down that way. Left early in the day to check out Colonial Beach as well. I about froze, but all the other PM fans were telling me that last week was worse weather..no wind tonight thankfully.

Blues fans have always travelled well and even in our very lean years we would still pack the stands. Lots of pride and tradition at that school.

I was not expecting PM to be up 21-0 six minutes in. And Ryheem Dawson...wow, I don't know what else to add.

Timmy Jones was in attendance tonight. His final high school game was vs. W&L in the 1979 state title game. He rushed for what was at that time a state record amount of yards in that title game. Ironic that Ryheem had arguably his best high school game of his career tonight as well. (PS, he's been sick all week..)

Everytime Parry McCluer is spelled wrong, somewhere in the world a puppy goes without a meal..

No disrepect meant to PM, but the Altavista team I saw last year in Salem is a machine. The coach is awesome, the players are solo tackling studs. It may take breaking down hours of film, but I believe Altavista will figure out how to beat PM.

And no disrespect taken.

PM knows the task the lays ahead of them. And we know it is not going to be easy to pull out a win. The Colonels are a well coached and hard hitting team. I'm anxious for the chance and looking forward to making the drive down to Altavista to watch the game.

Look forward to seeing you next week mmqp....if you get a chance give me a shout....as I have ties to Buena Vjsta, my sister graduated from there (Parry McCluer) in the late 80's and my nephew and ex-brother in law still live there, and I have several cousins that are from Glasgow and graduated from Natural Bridge.

I remember playing against the Blues in the 80's. I went to James River and also remember very well the Wheeler boys. I didn't think that school was ever gonna run out of them. LOL....

The power of the elite 1A East teams....all impressive.

this year is indeed showing to be impressive. If you are assuming that W&L was not that good therefore AltaVista should be able to handle PM with relative ease, let me attempt to counter that thought process. Now before this big PM win over W&L, I would have probably agreed with your premise. Now, I'm not so sure. PM may indeed be able to knock off AltaVista, especially if they start rolling like last night. Yes, I was also at Salem and concur that the AltaVista coaching staff did an outstanding job from play one. However, I'm sure that there are other intelligent coaches on horizon to match wits with them.

I know that some people do not like to compare scores etc, of different opponents, well I do.

Washington and Lee went 9-3 this year and had a great season. All three teams they lost to are still competing in the 1A East final 4 teams (Essex, CB, and PM). The Eagles' big wins were against 4A KG, 3A Spotsy, and 2A King William. W&L beat KW by a score of 32-14. Essex won over KW 35-0.

Speaking of KW, while some of us were worried that a very weak Tidewater district would hurt the Cavs of KW, well, they go on the road in the 2A playoffs and defeat Strasburg (7-3) 37-12 and then shock the #2 2A team in the State Riverheads (11-0) 28-27 (never trailed in game) played in Riverheads. Congrats again KW! Well done.

PM defeated a very good W&L by 20. Essex defeated them by 21, and Colonial Beach won over the Eagles by 23 points.

I guess that my point is all the final 4 teams remaining in the East are very, very good. Could be almost a toss up. (I just do not know enough about the Western teams so others can comment on them, some very strong teams there).

Should be two awesome battles coming up to earn the last two Eastern spots to compete in the State 1A Final Four.

P.S.S. Dawson has been sick for 2 weeks. I was really worried about him last week, especially in that cold air. But he the ultimate team player and did it for his teammates. Not many people knew that he was sick.

Going to be a game for the ages next week. And yes, PM fans are unreal, travel to all points in this state. No matter the weather or distance. What a great community. Unlike no other.

That little cut he made on his third touchdown run that left about 3 W&L defenders laying flat on their faces...incredible. I hope someone got video of that one.

What a classy young man he is.

Hey! I'll let you know later on this week where we'll be standing. Not sure yet and I'm guessing half the town of Buena Vista will be there..we sent about 1/4 the town to Montross last night.

My sisters graduated from PM in the late 80's as well (86 and 88) so I'm betting they know each other. My Mom graduated from Natty B. You guys had some good teams in the 80's, just stuck with PM and Covington at that time was no fun.

Theres a ton of Wheelers on the team now lol. I'm always encouraging all the Wheelers to have more kids..

As a W&L fan, I will admit that PM really has a good team but theres a few things that really hurt us

1. Kickoffs and punts- Why would you kick the ball directly to Dawson, even after the fist play which he ran for about 70 yards , we continued to kick to him

2.If your punter continues to punt the ball less than 10 yards, why even punt.

3. 90% of PM rushing yards came after contact, which most of those runs could of been for a loss if we knew how to tackle

4. #2 should of got more touches being that #22 had to sat out the first half and the big full back had to sat out the whole game for disciplinary reasons.

5. Dawson, I thought he was Adrian Peterson out there. Much respect to him, we knew what was coming and still couldn't stop it.

We did have a good run, same spot we finished last year!

* Essex you all can have your coach back now, we don't need him.

WL 1996

I acknowledge that this is a message board and it is based on opinion only. But WL 1996 I really think your views and or opinions are skewed. my hat is off to coach Jones and his staff forr a great season, it's not like they go to states every year. Their losses came against good teams who also set out in August with the goal of winning state. Of course the kids and fans are disappointed but they need to hold their heads high and be proud. 1st year coach, to make it to the 2nd round is pretty darn good. When I read your ranking ie previous post, where you had wl, essex, Rapp and cb in that order. Made me wonder if your expectations were a bit unattainable. I've seen all the nneck teams and clearly essex and cb was better. This post wasn't intended to be in no way to insult you, I'm just saying that we may need to remove any bias to develop a genuine opinion. Good luck to both nneck teams that are left.

Re: WL 1996

What I post is based on my opinion. My rankings was based on the W&L players playing to their strength, not to the coach's strength. Either way based on talent that's the way it should of been. CB just wanted it more than anybody, heart overcame talent in their situation. I blamed the coach in 3 maybe 4 games, mainly about the his playcalling. The good thing about that we only loss one of those games which was the Essex game. That one game could of been because of a lot of different reasons but overall yes we did have a good year and the coach also had a good year with a few question marks. Coach Yates made it to the second round last year also and got pushed out the door so whats gonna happen to Coach Jones, I bet he will try to run back to Essex because he sure don't want them to lose. Maybe I'm wrong about him but I might also be right. Time will tell

Re: WL 1996

After seeing W&L other night, why were they still running jet sweeps down 28-0?

Your QB obviously has a cannon arm and #4 was making some great catches...but the plays just weren't being called enough IMO..

Re: WL 1996

That's what I've been trying to tell everybody all year about the coach's playcalling. The passing game worked all year when we decided to use it (with the exception of the windy Essex game). The paper said QB Brown had about 230 yds and 2 tds on only about 10 attempts and it should of been 4 tds which the wr got tackled just before the goal line. The WR Sumuel had probably about 200 of those yds and probably all the tds. That connection did it all last year and this year the coach refuse to use them. When I question the play calling everybody got on me about it but finally somebody else seen what I was talking about.

On another note, we wasn't even running our best running backs.

I like how you say "we" yet from most of the people on this board that are from W&L tend to disagree with you. Therefore, next post, say YOU don't want him. Haha. As for being Essex's coach, he's been gone from there for 5 years. I'm sure that's 1 win he wanted more that anything. As a FAN, which is all that you are and most likely will ever be, you should try to find a reason to get behind the person that was chosen for the job. Or get you resume ready to put in. I'm sure that the school would love to see your records at Madden or NCAA football for xbox. Because you clearly know nothing about highschool football. You can't decide to change everything you worked at in the summer for week # 11 or 12. Again you talked about Jones and put him down yet again blamed defense and tackling. That's defense! You're right though, that's your opinion. Make sure that #42 tee shirt is washed and ready to go for next season.

As a W&L fan, I agree with W&L1996 on most of his points. The coach's plays is outdated and any good defense would be able to figure it out. I don't recall him saying that the coach suck, If he did I'm pretty sure he was referring to it because of his playcalling. I only seen about 5 of there games all year(2 Rapp, CB, 2 playoff games), I personally think that they should of use the pass game more, maybe it would of been easier on the running backs.

Rapp game- Should of threw the ball a lot more, Rapps defense seemed to know all the plays the 2nd time around.

CB- Playcalling was a lot better, defense couldn't stop CB's offense. QB should of had 4 or 5 touchdowns passing but
a lot of drop balls and miscues. Could tell that the wrs wasn't use to getting the ball thrown to them. Can't blame the
coach for bad tackling and drop balls.

1st playoff game- was total domination, offense and defense looked good

2nd playoff game- bad playcalling in the 1st quarter. The passing game kept some hopes up , If the defense would of
showed up a few times, could of made a difference. Our special teams totally killed us.

Overall a good year, not what everyone expected but still a good year.

The only bad thing I said about him was his play calling suck. Some of these people seem to take it personal when you say something that he doesn't do perfect. The insults and personal attacks don't hurt my feelings. Nobody out there is perfect and Coach Jones flaw is his playcalling.
