Bingo! That is exactly what I mean. In spite of that, Beard gave him plenty of chances seeing as how he averaged 15 minutes per game that season and had 3 starts. Askew simply didn't take advantage of that opportunity and produce. It's to be seen whether Perry does or does not. However, the point is, Beard will give him an opportunity he likely wasn't going to get here next season. He also likely got more NIL money in the process.
Gotcha. I see what you’re saying now.

Hope he fails
WTF? That’s poor sportsmanship.

Kid loves to play ball. Believes in himself. Has 3 more years to play. I admire his courage going for it rather than sitting on the bench. I’m sure it was a tough decision.

Wish he had gotten out of the sec just like I wanted another small slower rural Ky guard Chris Lofton out of the sec.

I agree. All these people talking about Ole Miss haven’t looked at their roster. Beard is returning only Malik Dia from last years team and hasn’t done well in the portal.

Hence my dog crap team comment. Any team playing Perry 20 a game isn't doing anything n the sec.

I posted this in one of the other Perry threads...

Perry has already accomplished everything possible he can achieve in the state of KY. Sitting on the bench and being loved because he's a KY kid is not how he or any real competitor should want to end their career. He wants to conquer new worlds between now and the time he has to retire from playing basketball. I admire him for leaving as it says a lot about his competitiveness and character.

Now, where are those blue tinted glasses....

It's funny though when UK players not from KY leave we hear they are scared of competition and not good enough but because he is from the state he's special and we should all root for him.

I would be SHOCKED if he makes more than $250,000 per year for the next 3 years at Ole Miss.

The kid left because he wanted assurances about playing time for the next 3 seasons. At UK, Coach Pope is going to bring in not only top level HS players, but also the best transfers too. So Travis KNEW he was going to be a bit player in the program for the entire time he played here.

Coach Beard made it clear that he liked Travis when he went out of his way to mention him at the SEC Tournament even though Ole Miss wasn’t playing UK. That told me that Perry’s people were contacting coaches to tell them he was going to transfer. I’m sort of surprised that Beard was that high on him. Pedulla is as a similar player to him, but was much more physical and skilled with the ball.
You have a point there about Perry's folks contacting other coaches. I really don't understand him transferring to another school where he's not going to get a lot more playing time at than at Kentucky. Here's something I thought about, didn't he play for his dad in high school? I've seen this a lot where a kid played for his dad in middle school and dad tailored the team around his boy so he would be the star. But when he got to high school and dad wasn't coaching him anymore he suddenly was not the main player anymore, there were others better but were held back by the middle school coach so his son could be the star. Maybe Perry's folks didn't like the fact that Noah actually looked better than Perry? Were there any issues between Perry's folks and Pope over playing time? I find it odd that Pope hasn't issued a statement about Perry leaving.

Also interesting Perry hasn't made a comment saying the usual thanks for the memories and to the fans but want to explore other options.

For guys like Perry? 🤯 My mind can’t comprehend that level of overpayment. Again, no offense to him. I just can’t see that amount of value brought to the program financially.
We don't know if that is for a single year or if it is pro-rated over a 3-to-4-year term. You never know what the terms are when these numbers are thrown out there.

I hope you are not comparing Travis to Chris .. Lofton was a stud , a total SEC star .. TP is a back up on a bad team ( ole miss )

No one is saying everyone should root for him to succeed. Actively hoping he fails as some sort of gotcha because he chose a different path for his playing career is completely different than saying he's scared of competition or not good enough to play at UK(which has actively been echoed on here),and that can still be true even if he's from the state. As we have seen in the not so distant past with Dontaie Allen. Having the incapability to separate the two and being hateful makes the fanbase look bad.

Its kind of a shame that as a fan you can no longer count on a kentucky boy to bide his time and be a good role player for the team. Not saying that I blame him, just that it used to be nice knowing the kentucky kids were going to hang around.
other than the money I can't see the appeal in going there.

He also likely wouldn't have gotten a scholarship from Kentucky if he was from Des Moines, Iowa, so I'm failing to understand the correlation
Exactly, he's not good. Why's there a three page thread on someone who's not very good.

Let me know where you're confused

I want good players, I don't care where they are from. Not novelties

I have a friend who is close to the family and he told me a week ago it would be Ole Miss. He said they offered him more money and Playing time. I thought it would be them all along, then word comes out Vandy is gaining momentum, so I didn’t know if something had changed or not. Then this comes out today, so it’s really no surprise to me that it is Ole Miss.

Sports is about rooting for your team and rooting against the other team. Not that hard to understand. Quit being snowflakes
You can root for your team and showing some class is not being a snowflake. What you show is pure redneck ignorance. Your actions and comments is an embarrassment to the geat University of KY. I doubt you ever darkened a UK door as a student. If you had, you would certainly have more class.

What about all that “steam” to Vandy just 24 hours ago? I swear, this board and much of the UK grifters on YouTube and X have zero credibility left re having inside info. Zero.

He will play 20 mins a game
If he does Ole Miss will not win more than 5 conference games. STUPID decision on his part. You can't say he improved his situation at all. He should have stayed at UK if he was staying in SEC, lots of intangibles would have come his way as home state kid even if riding the bench. Don't see much advantage to him riding bench at Ole Miss. Dumb

I know NOTHING about Ole Miss’ roster, but it’s a pretty idiotic statement saying they will win less than 5 conference games if Perry plays 20 mins/game. With the right pieces around him he has potential to be a decent PG, and if he finds his shot he will make up for what he gives up on defense.

Those are BIG ifs. He's just not an SEC caliber PG right now. Can he be? Sure. But atm, he's not.
