Disagree. Our guards got cooked off the dribble. Guys like Fears, Sears, and other good guards worked our guards. it is why Butler was so key, without him, we didn't have ONE guard other than Oweh who could stop penetration or stay in front of their man.

One could argue our front court got banged around and out rebounded a lot.
Cal never lacked guards or any other player who could “cook”. In fact that was his calling card…individual talent.
What did we end up bitching about every year?! Something along the lines of “yeah the preseason hype/rankings are great, the 25ish+ wins was fun, the draft night was cool, the blue chips already committing next year, and year after is fun…but uh just out of curiosity what’s going on in SEC tournaments and March?!”

Maybe Chandler, Noah, and others will be those guys, great. I hope and think they could be.
However folks talking about Perry as if kids like him never amount to or do much is wild. Kid was a freshman in the best season ever for SEC basketball.

If that's where he ends up, I hope it's a good move and fit for him ... and he has a successful and enjoyable career there.
WTF does Cal have to do with Travis Perry being slow and unable to guard ? Lots of off topic noise to try to prop your stance up. I actually think Noah and Chandler will be very good by the time they leave. Perry, not so much. He is always going to be slow, small, and unable to guard and get his own shot. Well unless he has a 4 inch growth spurt which is not happening. But you go ahead and babble on about Cal and this and that, completely on the other side of the moon was I was discussing.

I just don't see Travis as that type.
He doesn't play with a mean streak at all.
I agree on the toughness part at least for the past season. That is one thing that Noah has. He's tough as nails and isn't intimidated on the court in my opinion.
Our backcourt got torched a lot. How many uncontested layups did we give up last year. Yeah our rim protection was weak quite a bit but outside of Butler and Oweh we could not stop anyone from blowing by us. When Butler got hurt we got exposed. That is why Pope went after athletes this portal season.
In the last 5-10 years I can't think of many final four teams that didn't have guards that weren't quick and athletic.

We had superior guards who were 4 inches taller, better athletes, faster, etc…guys who individually cooked on most nights for 16 years.
We need guys who are going to hang around, develop, learn the damn system, learn how to play in the post season, be leaders, solid role players…
Pope has and will haul in plenty of elite talent.
What we’ve lacked the past 16 years are guys like Perry.
Not so much about Pope or Perry…any one year of transfers in or out.
It’s more about folks patience or lack there of with talent developing, learning, maturing.
The fact that people are writing off freshmen guards.

You’ve probably never played competitive basketball. Players like to play, and money isn’t everything. Perry will be alright even if he is not a UK legend. Hes already a Kentucky legend.
When Perry initially committed to Cal I wonder if he expected to play. The statement Cal said don’t come here I won’t play you and Perry said I’ll make you play me. Then I wonder when Pope came on board if again, he expected to play.
He wasn’t in the rotation, ( and neither were Chandler and Noah for that matter) until injuries occurred. If he would have never gotten in the rotation would he still be on the roster today? I think he probably would. I think he got a taste of playing time and that changed his perspective.

There was no significant number of people hoping he’d leave in February. Nearly everyone here still wanted him to succeed and stay. And the discussion in this thread is not people “hating” on him.
You know what's odd bill. Travis Perry and king Kelly Coleman, the two most high prolific scorers in kentucky illustrious high school basketball lore. neither played for Kentucky, or will not end their collegiate career at Kentucky .

I don't think so but I was not the "UK Fan" that said 30. I told them to name them. For 62 years I never remember the fan base criticizing a Kentucky native that played for UK like the "UK fans", I am guess most have only followed UK only since the former coaching staff, like they did Travis Perry.
I hope Perry comes back, however, I’d transfer if I were him. I played NAIA collegiate tennis and it was one of the best times in my life. I’ve bled blue my whole life, but if I had to choose between what I did or playing very sparingly at my beloved school, I’d pick the lower level opportunity 10 times out of 10. I don’t care what sport and it’s not about “playing down”. It’s about playing period. Going to war, leading your team, contributing in meaningful matches and tournaments. Very few things in life are better. I’m unsure if Travis can do that with those on his list, but if he is thoughtful and has good counsel around him, he will be able to find a fit. He seems like a good kid and I’ll be rooting for him.
