Personally, I don't see what is racist about yelling

"The South will rise again."

However, isn't the easiest solution to this, if they think it is racist, to quit playing "From Dixie with Love?" I mean, I can't see where there is any difference in the sentiment behind playing "Dixie" and yelling "They South will rise again."

And for the record, blending the Battle Hymn of the Republic with Dixie is even worse than GA having the song as their fight song.

I mean, if you can't yell "The South will rise again", then go ahead and get rid of all the old south crap. It's all the same sentiment.

was a lesser point. I just wonder why, once again, if saying that is racist, why they don't quit playing what must be a racist song as well.

its not a liberal or conservative thing, it's just not a good representation of your university. i mean, take race out of it, it still sounds petulant and small minded just like calling the players on other teams "homos," or screaming "bull****" after just about any untimely penalty is called; it just looks bad and is in poor taste. that being said they can keep cheering it all they want to cause i think it exposes them for what they are. that being said, it is kinda naive for shep or anyone to think the south is the center of racism in america, enter california, or rural parts of the rust belt.

I doubt there's a person at Vaught Hemmingway Stadium that means anything racist in "The South Shall Rise Again". Its a statement about the school. But to at least couple hundred million people outside the school and outside Mississippi, it looks like more backwards racist crap.

So let it go. It hurts Ole Miss. And it hurts Mississippi.

To those that say you've got no balls if you stop saying it - get a damn clue. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

Look I don't give two ***** about them saying this, and I don't think them saying it is intentionally or inherently racist; but yelling "The South Will Rise Again" is about the most douchebag f*cking thing I've ever heard. It reminds me of dark blue wranglers, fishhooks on the bill of your cap, giant picture of a deer on your T-shirt, terrible facial hair douchebags.

Are you a high-school student from The Cutoff in Tunica?

Or back when they used to play the traditional Dixie at games and wave the rebel flags. The craziest thing i saw was people standing at attention and starting to cry when they were playing the song. This was a while back in late 70's early 80's. Couldn't figure it out.....

I really don't care if they keep yelling it, playing DIxie and waving the rebel flag. You do realize the rebel flag is a symbol of coming in 2nd in a war, don't you? Never could understand why you are proud of being the loser in a war.

That's because the chant is not part of the song. The chant is said during the Battle Hymn of the Republic section of the song. The lyrics are "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah, His Truth is Marching On", but for some reason our students about 5 years ago changed those lyrics to "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah, The South Will Rise Again".

I really don't get it, and yes they should quit.

for a older person who spent the first 18 years of his life thinking "Mississippi" was the greatest school ever, then "rebelling" against parents and kinfolks(who I thought were too pushy) and going to MSU, and now pull against "Mississippi" if they were playing Iraq, this is all pretty silly..."The south will rise again"???..it did that 50 years ago and hasn't stopped since...look at the countries industrial base, it has been here and growing at a much higher rate than the rest of the country(who the heck wants to live in the north during the winter?)..and you know Dixie(and behind closed doors, I still love that song) is going to be next....

Bcash you are part of the pussification of America. What the hell is wrong with a fish hook on a hat or a shirt with a damn deer on it? Those are the kinds of things that represent a person for who they are. There is nothing wrong with it at all and for you to call people like that douche bags shows how ignorant you are. You don't see people on here bashing little city boy mama's babies like you now do you? Country people or people who love outdoors and work are what makes this part of the country great. What are you a rich spoiled kid from Madison??? You are a whiney little liberal S.O.B. Remind me a lot of JT bowtie, maybe you should get the same treatment he may get when he comes to starkville. What color is the purse you wear you 17'ing girl?

I'm usually up to date on my stereotypes and slanders of a general population, but I have no idea what that means.
