It does make sense what you say about him only contacting former teammates. That's a good point.

The most incriminating thing thus far for Auburn is the rumor about possible phone records connecting Rogers and AU coaches, but they've already said any discussions weren't about Cam Newton. I find that to be pretty hard to believe.

Come on guys. No need for sour grapes. Auburn may get the death penalty for all I know.

Why would MSU coaches agree tomeet with this guy (Rodgers) present...given his reputation...?

I would think that nothing good could come of it... what's your opinion?

I just don't see where this is bad for MSU at all. Cecil asked for cash. We said no. We turned him in. Where's the rub? I don't know what happens to Auburn, but State comes out clean.

Pretty simple actually..
1-MSU recruiting damn good football player Cam Newton and looks in fairly good shape to sign him (per Cam)
2-Money hungry wannabe agent Rogers says maybe I can get me some $$$ out of this.
3- wannabe Rogers hears about the rev's financial problems and calls Cecil and says something like how bout some $$$ for son's sig..
4-Cecil says hell yeah meet me in Starkville..wannabe says 17 yeah, I'll be there.
5-wannabe says "oh **** I ain't got no money, who can I call? Ah I played football with Bill Bell way back when and he owns a 17ing roof company..
6-wannabe calls Bell who says "wtf are you calling me for scumbag". Bell thinks oh **** now what, I better call John Bond, he's in Starkville and maybe he can tell me who to talk to.
7-Bell calls Bond.. Bond says wtf are you calling me for..looks like Cam is coming here for free..Bond says "**** I don't want no part of this, I better get in touch with AD Greg Byrne and cover our ***.
8-Byrne calls or writes SEC office and says that scumbags Rogers and Cecil want money for Cam to be a Bulldog..Slime slinks into a hole and says "probably nothing to it"..
9-scumbags meet with recruiters and are told to get the hell out of dodge.
10-Cecil asks wannabe "where's the 17ing money?". Wannabe says not here but-----------------------------------------. (fill in the blank)

Did they know who Rodgers was?

Did they know they were walking into an extortion attempt?

If they knew Rodgers was going to be there, did they know he was a part of a scam set forth by Cecil and his son?

There are still too many unanswered questions. I just know that when Rodgers was quoted on the phone call to Dallas Radio "when Cecil asked for money and the coaches said, NO NO NO, we aren't going to go there" then that pretty much sums up their stance on paying for Cam or anyone else.

That is my opinion.

I also agree on the above post. It is proven that Cecil was seeking money from MSU. Up until the final 2 weeks of recruiting, Auburn wasn't even on the radar and Cam was coming to Starkville. Then he abruptly changed his mind and ran off to Auburn? And now Auburn people say they are clean? I mean seriously, they truly believe that the Newtons didn't do the same with Auburn - requesting money? That is completely naive of the Auburn fanbase. Bahhhhh

And now this Auburn sheep is coming over here saying that there should be cash in a jar lying in the backyard? Are you 17ing kidding me? That money was well hidden before the season ever started. I just wish these Auburn fans could be objective and step away and look at the whole situation with clear eyes. But as I stated last night, these people are as delusional as the Bears. At least during this entire ordeal, they have shown the same characteristics.

If MSU had no idea what was about to happen, then it certainly helps their case.

Follow up question: Do you think the time lapses between the alledged request for money on 11/27and when MSU reported it and the lapse from when the SEC asked for more info (January) and when they received (July) said info should be of concern?

CECILintroduce Rogers to Mullen! Just becauseRogers played here 30 years ago does not mean he is a booster/recruiter for MSU. Mullen didn't know this guy and Im sure most of our current coaches would have no clue who Rogers was because their not from here. Rocky wand Melvin would be the only two to know him and whos to say that they even knew this meeting was happening. Im sure cecil told the coaches that he was a good friend his and also played at state so the coaches were polite since he was an alumni.</p>

Afterall, we are on the record as immediately saying NO to Cecil's request. Any wrongdoing would be eliminated from that point on. Right?

Now, reporting this information is a whole other situation. Our athletic department had to do our own investigating to make sure we didn't break any rules. Once that was determined, we had to make the decision of "Do we really want to open this can of worms?" Knowing this was going to be a HUGE deal. Not to mention, the SEC office has always treated us as the redheaded step child. I think our guys were smart enough to realize it wasn't going to be a walk in the park. After all the "he said she said" ****, can you imagine how our Atheletic Department felt when this first surfaced? I bet it was a huge mess...

I also havent seen this mentioned. There could have been a lapse in time because our AD was accepting another job with another institution. Idon't see how this couldn't havecaused a lot of mayhem within the department. Then, we have an inexperienced AD come in and took his time on what he did report. There are so many factors. I am not saying we are "scott free" of any wrongdoing - secondary violations at best. I am saying that I believe there is A LOT more to this story that we, the public, are not being privy to. I think Auburn 17ed themselves and the powers that be are trying to keep it all on us. When in fact, it doesn't matter. The NCAA doesn't give a **** about what everyone else says. They will nail whoever they find at fault. As of now, I think we did everything we were supposed to do.

Here's a "theory" on that. State reporterd to SEC office in January that Cecil asked for money and has good reason to beleive AU bought him. Slive says "we are not an investigative body" so prove it and sits on it. State finally digs around and gets some dirt and realizes Slive is obviously not going to act and State not being an "investigative body" goes to the NCAA with what they have.

Could be. That would also explain why Slive kinda threw a few punches at MSU in his statement yesterday. If Newton took money and the FBI is in on this, they have already found the money trail, if there is one. I'd like to think so at least.

Cecil has lawyered up and you can bet he will not tell the truth unless the NCAA has info he knows he can't dispute. I can assure you though that if the NCAA wants them, it won't matter what he says.

Welp I'm out! About game time. Good luck with the Turds tonight. Ya'll know how we feel about them.

Good luck with the rest of your season too. Hopefully both of our schools come out ok on the other side of this.

Also, my condolences again for Nick Bell. Truly tragic and sad. Prayers for the team, his friends, and family.

I will start off by saying that Rodgers is, without a doubt, dirty. He and others like him are the key to free agency in college football. What is the purpose of his job? To match players with schools that are appropriate for them. Should these players not be making these type of decisions for themselves with their families? How does he determine which schools are best? To me, this is a pretty blatant profession mirroring an agent. I'm just curious how much he charges for it - from the prospect and the school.

I think there is no way that MSU gets out of this without a scratch. We may not get in as much trouble as Auburn, assuming that Cecil asked
more than just the one school for money, but we sure will get ours. Slive
gets a bitter taste in his mouth any time someone merely mentions
Mississippi State University, and now it looks like we're ruining a nat'l. title season and breaking...no, shattering his promise that no school will
be on probation while he is in office. You can bet he'll get us, one way or another.
We'll be lucky if we're still IN the SEC when he's done.

The fact that 2 recruiters "that were not coaches" were in talks with Cecil scare me, a lot. If they were not coaches then they should not be having contact with prospective recruits. We will get the shaft for this, it is FAR from over. CAMNEW may be ruled ineligible, but that will most definitely not be the end of this long and winding road to the slaughterhouse. This may rival the agent party fiasco in Miami(FL), and it's going to make the NCAA take another look and reappraise of the way recruiting works, specifically the way people such as Rodgers operate. I don't know what kind of changes they will implement but I do think it will shake things up a bit.
