I feel like SixpacksPeak's own Goodfellas have a lot to do with this. Burns has made multiple appearances on This Is Our Show, so he's basically a made man in Starkville. Hats off to Heydog and dawgstudent for welcoming him into the family.

It goes back to Peter has been to Starkville multiple times and he knows what it’s like and he knows how Mississippi State is. These guys that have never set foot here just read about it from other people who probably have never set foot here and just assume the worst like this a hole did.

When I was at State it was not a great college town. It was just a small town that had a college. It is like night and day now.
On my last day at State I remember seeing Starkville’s first McDonalds had opened. I knew Starkville had finally arrived. 😆

We also don't have a Bass Pro Shop, and I don't think the Chili's is open anymore, either. That ESPN article really sucked.
Dang, I was planning on making a trip down for a game, you know, the two birds one stone thing. Guess I'll just have to watch on TV. **

I started at State in 91 and Starkville was a tiny town with not a lot going on. I lived there from 2000-2005 and it had grown a ton. My daughter started college there in 2022 and I almost didn't recognize the place because it's changed so much.

The point here is 17 the haters. Idiots who have never been or haven't been in 25 years do not know what they are talking about. I've been all over the country, to tons of small towns and college campuses and MSU/Starkville is pretty damn good.

I'm glad someone publicly addressed that dickhead David Hale's shot at us.
Amazingly Dickhead Richard Cross and Michael Borkey called him out yesterday on their show and defended Starkville too. I'm sure they will be reprimanded today if not after the show yesterday

The article came across as a shot at small towns in Mississippi. Its one thing for State and UM fans to make digs at each other, but when some limp wristed yankee fairy starts talking ****, well, that's crossing a line reserved for those who live here.

We are used to taking the shots from the rest of the country. It's been happening since my grandfather went to school here. Being from (and now raising a family in Mississippi, it's the same disrespect we get about the state as a whole. Mississippi is the south's best kept secret and I love being here. Here are a few things I know to be true.

1. The disrespect we get from the media and others over the years has made us a stronger, more loyal fan base. It has produced a bond that I'm proud to be a part of. Our fans have stuck to this school through EVERYTHING. We show up, bottom line. Most people realize how dedicated our fan base is and they are correct. We show up and we are loyal and that will never change.
2. Starkville is a great place, and if you actually come and spend a few hours you will see. We have shopping, we have nightlife, we have great restaurants, we have all the interesting and eclectic markers that make it a great college town to attend school or visit. We have everything that people say we don't, but not too much of it. Too much of it would be a bad thing.
3. Most of the media guys who come to Starkville love it.
4. The improvements made during the last 25 years have put the place on the map.
5. During big games, we have one of the toughest places to play in the country. That's a fact and you can ask our opponents.
6. Mississippi has, and will continue to have the friendliest people on earth. That includes State fans not from here.

So keep coming with the disrespect. It has made the people who care about the University a resilient bunch.

Just an observation but I’m guessing the writer was simply making stereotypical redneck jokes in a sarcastic manner. How do so many fall for this crap? It will continue to be a narrative of Starkville and State until each of us are six feet under. He achieved what he was looking for from many of you. Bad attention.
