I just don't understand o-line coaching. What makes one 6'5 300lb athlete able to block and another just like him not able to? Can we hire Hevesy? At least he could coach.

I’m not sure about him and we probably haven’t recruited well enough but to defend him a little bit…. We have one starting tackle out for the season and another out for an undermined amount of time. Definitely doesn’t help matters.

Go back and look at the Tennessee game. Look at the play where Shapen fumbled for the scoop and score. Our left tackle was lined up inside the defensive end. At the snap he moved forward leading with his right foot. This made is real easy for the end to go outside and drill Shapen for the fumble. This is a mistake quality coaching should have eliminated by Jr. High ball.

Trust me. Reese and Steen weren't that good either. It was a bad group. The 3 cupcakes we played even had some success against it. State did everything they could to give the game to Arizona State and they just refused to take it by playing up tight in the last 1 minute thinking Statecwaa only going to try and get into tying FG range. Our defense won the USM and ASU games and almost won the UT game. Libby's forte is what is losing games now.

The problem tonight was picking up stunts - we lost the guy every time and he came free.

we are already limited on talent there, we can’t always have bust on communication as well

Our OL is complete crap in pass protection and not really that good in run blocking. Our loss to Tennessee can be directly attributed in part to failures at left tackle. This loss is looking the same.
Why? Because our two best OL were out hurt and we don't have any talent because the previous coaches sucked?

I was about to come in here and take up for the current coaches and then see trolls like this and remember why our fanbase sucks so bad to begin with. Every side sucks. We have no idea how to win.

Aggie linemen sleptwalked though tonight's game. Didn't even really try and knew that they could win.

I think he’s taking more of a shot at Kennedy than Miller. Objectively speaking Miller and Loadholt are 2 best OL coaches we’ve had since Hevesy

We don’t have talent on the line.
Knute f ing Rockne nor Vince Lombardi could do anything with this.

Cool it. This board was ready to kill Hutzler and regardless of score, his unit put up one hell of a fight tonight with no help from the other side.

Talent level is a problem. That and injuries combined is about 40% of the problem. But they are poorly coached. It's so bad that it jumps off the page for people who know what they're looking at.

I definitely would not call myself an OL expert but to my less trained eyes, it looked to me like last night we were expecting them to power rush and speed rush right through and over us like Tennessee did, so we over committed our protection on the outside. So A&M just stunted and twisted back toward the inside and we were 17’d.

I don't understand how an offensive minded HC can whiff so hard on o-line coaching and recruiting.

Which is the problem. You always have to work inside out on the line. You do it to lengthen the route to the QB, you do it to allow a pocket for the QB to step up into, and you do it to create passing lanes. Any time someone has a clear path to the QB from the inside, whether off a stunt or not, it's a blown assignment from the OL. Every time.

Yeah, a pure talent issue would be our guys getting blown up or unable to keep a defender from getting around. We're having completely missed assignments or linemen moving the wrong way. Coaching is a huge part of the problem.

Which gets back to yes, the OL is not SEC talent. But they’re also poorly coached. They never had a chance last night.

or its a mistake by someone that was coached in the proper technique but wasn't paying attention to detail at that moment. i find it hard to believe that is what he was coached to do. or he didn't understand the play and what was his responsibility, these are the kinda things, amongst others, are the sort of things that make a player 1st string or 3rd string or practice squad.

this is exactly what i was going to post but found it pointless to do so as many on this board don't understand or are just insufferable a$$hole's. we are a few OL and DL away from having a really good team. some on here are acting like we are turning away the best of the best at every position to get the players we have. you cannot force someone to come play at State or any school for that matter, you have to show them that you have something for them be it $ or chance to create something. we are much better this year and we should expect to see better players interested in coming here in the near future.
