Philadelphia Inquirer doesn't report a word about Ashnault/Suriano

Instead, their wrestling story in today's (Sunday's) paper mentions only Penn State's successes. This is the problem in South Jersey -- the major media are all Philly outlets, and they barely say a word about Rutgers sports. Rutgers might as well be on a different planet.

it is what it is. Are either of the guys from South Jersey? I honestly don't think so. I would think they would be reporting it if either one was from SJ.

Yes and someone else mentioned ny post didn’t mention it either . I wonder if the local New Jersey papers covered it.

I mean it is a Philadelphia paper. The Philly news also doesn’t report our hoops or football scores. Everyone in Philly and south jersey follow Philly sports not NJ sports. Nothing to see hear

The sports editor of the Inquirer, Gary Potosky, is a good friend of mine. We graduated together (LC'87). Trust me when I say he would like to run a Rutgers story on every page of the sports section. Unfortunately, what he wants to do and what he is able to do are two completely different things.

I'm not surprised at what the Inky did. I mentioned it because there is a tendency on this board to express resentment of South Jersey for not being a hotbed of Rutgers fans. It's impossible for South Jersey to be like that given what the local media are like.

New Jersey basically only consists of the Northern half Jersey when it comes to sports and that is from a south Jersey resident. South Jersey is basically an eastern wing of Pennsylvania.

South Jersey belongs to Jersey. Not those MFers from Philly region that come to the beaches. Get your asses down to Ocean City, Stone Harbor, AC and the Wildwoods!

The coverage in Jersey has been fine all season long. There are some weird posts in this thread.

How about Courier Post? AC Press? Asbury Park Press? Are the Trenton Times, Burlington Times, and other South Jersey papers still around?

AC Press had it on the front page of the sports section. I'm hoping Courier Post did as well as that paper is the true South Jersey paper IMO.

Isn’t Courier Post Gannett? If so nothing made their print editions today. Their print deadlines have become ridiculously early.

Wrestling truly is hit or miss - it has a decent enough following in NJ, but hardly a Big sport. Not losing any sleep that some papers reported and some didn’t.

My thoughts exactly. Still an amazing achievement and I’m not sure we’ll see anything like it anytime soon. Wait, scratch that, I am thinking Goodale wants this to be a springboard to consistent, multiple national champs every year.

Yeah they are Gannett. Maybe itll turn up on Monday's sports page.

The Courier-Post has a big piece on-line. about the celebration in the gym (which included an appearance by Chris Ash.) The story is taken entirely from the Asbury Park Press. I imagine it will run prominently in tomorrow's paper.

I have friends and people I have worked with that live in south jersey but have no clue about the state U or any pride in NJ sports. This is a perfect example. Of course , if you are waiting for the media to do the right thing you you will be waiting awhile.

At least north jersey people I know are up to date on RU and have jersey pride in our college sports but in the south part of the state ? No. It’s like they don’t actually live in NJ . Maybe they should move to PA.

The Courier Post evolved from the Plainfield Courier News which was around back in the 50’s. Gannet bought it and the rest is history. So the Courier Post is not the true south Jersey paper ( unless you mean it has more RU info than other outlets mentioned)

In general most people don't care as much about sports of any kind, a lot less you think. The biggest TV event every year is the Super Bowl and is watched by less than 1/3 Americans. And many of the rest just route for their local team and are oblivious to the rest.
Rutgers isn't the local college for the Philadelphia region.

Anybody who doesn't understand that the Philly papers follow Penn State and then the local Philly schools and doesn't include Rutgers as part of their primary territory has never lived down here. The only exception would be if one of those kids wrestled in HS down here, he then would probably get a line or two, but the focus would still be on the Penn State kids. I have lived in North and South Jersey, North Jersey media is dominated by NYC, but the residents still identify themselves with New Jersey first, down here, like a previous poster stated, we are an extension of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania in a lot of ways. Nova basketball is bigger than RU football I dare say, especially as you move closer to Philly.

Home News Tribune (previously woodbridge news tribune, and Perth amboy evening news) had it in the paper, two days
later.
When the Asbury Park Press buys a paper, it turns it into crap.

APP did. There's at least a half dozen articles, some with video, about wrestling, Ashnault, Soriano, Goodall, and the return to campus celebration.

I disagree. The Nova fan base is small in spite of their success. The blue color Philadelphians in fact hate the Main Line school and that fan base. Maybe there was more love back during Rollie's tenure but not now.

Its a very true statement with tons of evidence on FB/Twitter regarding many Philly fans that despise Nova due to the fact that they are in the Main Line and not considered part of the city. Both NC parades down by City Hall were embarrassingly small.

You have the Courier Post (originally a Camden newspaper whose circulation is in Camden County) confused with the Courier News, a North Jersey paper.

Atleast your friend has some kinda PA in their blood. Im talking much worse. People from SJ - who have never been a resident of PA.. But love penn st, love temple. Not even alums of the school- but got pride in em. Mention Rutgers and they look lost. South Jersey was more excited about temple football winning, then they were rutgers. And they hate when New Jersey teams - like the devils, and previously the nets were good. They love Pennsylvania

I was born in NJ live here ever since, and am a yankee, Giant and Knick fan. Is there a difference?

No your doing the same thing. So you were really out here cheering for the knicks to beat the new Jersey nets?
So you want people to be loyal to a team simply based on where they live?
You do know that the Nets were a Long Island team before NJ and now are in Brooklyn??? Probably not based on your responses.
