And you're right the camera for the NFHS games leaves a lot to be desired.
I think the NFHS camera worked out GREAT for basketball and seems to be a better watch for the indoor sports. Is it better than nothing? For sure.
What is tough is when there's a long kick / punt return or INT return. Plus with the distance being further than it is for basketball, at least it seems / feels that way, it's hard for someone to do a play-by-play blog / game cast / tweet updates, whereas it was easy for me to do for basketball as long as I had a roster and it didn't freeze (occasionally does, but very seldom if you have a good Internet connection).
A sport like football pretty much requires multiple camera angles, need for a zoom in on certain plays, otherwise it's going to be tough to follow... and furthermore, if the scorebug isn't working and you don't have audio, I know that makes it more challenging to follow. I know they're doing their very best to make it work.
I can tell you having called a few games for football on Facebook Live from the Virginia Beach Sportsplex alongside Coach Darnell Moore, it was even an adjustment for me calling the action. Once we installed a monitor and I had my binoculars in the booth for the last game we did, it was smooth sailing. Prior, there were even some plays I couldn't tell, so I can imagine for the viewer at home.
Hopefully they don't scrap things as far as the live streaming when we get back to some normalcy in regards to full capacity of fans because I do think it is a great resource + there are always family members / fans that won't be able to attend certain games.
While it's easy to knock the whole structure, I do give the schools and VHSL credit for at least trying to give people something through the NFHS. Let's hope it grows and gets better over time.
