interesting perception from player on a team we just beat....

full quote:

"We were more physical than them. The only thing they had over us was size. They had more size. Physical, head up, they weren't anything special."

I hope this was a just a let down game.....but they were definitely more physical than us.....can't argue with him.....BUT......scoreboard *****!

This was a typical Mullen ooc game.

Play lots of people, feed the seniors to boost their stats, rest starters (Tobias Smith), play soft Defense.... sort of drives me crazy but we are 16-0 in OIC games since 09the when we lost to GT and Houston.
If we would have run that inside draw all night we would have had 400to yards on the ground. If our receivers all wouldnt have had butter fingers we'd have had 400to yards through the air. I've never seen our WR's so wide open. ( to no avail though)

He was right, they were more physical. I'm sure he feels like this is one that got away from 'em. Kind of like us against aubarn last year

He was right.

That's what you get in a letdown game - out-physical'd. This game was their superbowl. It was our break after a SEC game.

I could understand an olineman from troy saying that - but a LB on a team that gave up almost 8 yards per carry to a 190 lbs running back? I'm pretty sure our oline pushed them around pretty good even with a backup guard starting. I'd hate to see what he considers getting physically dominated.

We didn't push them around. We spread the field (its what we do) to create space to run.

I agree with you on this

Our o-line was a bright spot for us. I don't recall Tyler getting sacked, and I only remember a couple of times where he was even touched on a play that wasn't a QB keeper or QB sneak. We basically ran at will on them and our WR's did more to stop us than their defense.

Doesn't sound like a team that was manhandled by the opponents defense.

I agree. Maybe what he means by more physical is that they cared more and tried harder. But, they definitely didn't push us around or manhandle us.

why weren't we able to get any pressure on them? I don't think we had one sack did we?

Was it that they were throwing quick drops or we just weren't that into it mentally?

quick ins, quick outs, quick slants, curls...

The only times they went deep, we picked them off pretty much.

We were definitely not bringing the heat, but a lot of that had to do with their spread passing schemes keeping the LBs out of the box to cover exactly what you mentioned.

It is going to be interesting to see what UT game plans against us. I would run single back against us every play. Our DL looked awful against the run out of spread formations.
