Maybe he wants a team & coach that believes
you win by scoring points not just preventing
the other team from scoring. Maybe he found
a coach and team that he will fit in better.
Maybe a team that has a point guard that can shoot. This guy is very dedicated to NJ and Rutgers but realizes it is time to move on.
God forbid he goes to this site and see all the negative comments on the team and himself.
I truly believe Pike is losing it and is being out coached.Losing in the first round of the NIT after 7 years is not acceptable.
None of this jives with him calling Pike the best coach in the country.

I wouldn't be surprised if Paul comes back knowing he may not be a starter.
Paul might want to become a coach, and this would help him by being a team guy.

I can't imagine Paul transferring to play for a different coach, not if you watch the post game presser. He loves it here and will have his spot here and will hopefully get healthy again, finally, and play his *** off again. It's certainly possible he moves on to something else like coaching or whatever.
This. Maybe he wants to move on beyond basketball? I don’t think there is a chance he leaves for another team.

I think Paul is done playing, but if he comes back it’s either (1) as the best 6th man in B1G and sage vet; or (2) playing the 4 as he did late this year. Add 5 lbs in offseason and he can be very effective in the latter role. He will not be the starting PG on this team.

I’d welcome him back in either role described above

Def want Paul to stay….IMO, he starts at beginning of season (hopefully with Cliff, Cam, Derek, and maybe Mag if healthy) and this allows Gavin to ease in a bit, and Paul (and Andre) would be ideal first 2 off bench. See Purdue this season.

I want Paul back.
Really hopes he come back.

Did he struggle in the back half, sure.
Where we thin to begin with this year and maybe too much was on his plate....look like it.

Remember how much we struggled earlier this year when he was out?

Hopefully he come back.
-Challenges everyone in sprint drills in practice.
-Reminds everyone how to tough it out (his shoulder).
-Mentors the younger guys coming in.
-Maintains the culture of the program.
-Catches and hits some clutch shots threes from the corner.
-And takes over a few games a la YMCA old man Paul style.

At the same time I hope he does all that with some less minutes played in the game, which should be good for everybody.

From what I hear all Paul cares about is winning and there is still a lot he can do here to make that happen.

A bench of Wolf, Chol (assuming he's ready to go), Ndongo, Davis + portal transfers is not bad at all. We probably need a transfer 2 and a transfer PG. Won't have much depth at Guard.

Think it’ll be nice to have Cliff practicing against thicker, stronger bigs than Dean with a more polished wolf back and Ndongo coming in. Dont think we’ve had anyone on the roster who can even emulate what Dickinson, Akpara, Edey all do.

Well we'll see. I just don't seem him coming in off bench when he could be starting at lots of other places. Will be interesting how it plays out.
I love Paul, but don’t see him as a guy who would have a ton of opportunities to start at the P6 level.

Listen, the guy had a rough 2nd half of the season and was clearly playing banged up this year, but he was honorable mention All Big 10 last year and led the league in assists, I am sure there would be numerous teams interested in him if that was what he was looking for, which I don’t think is the case.

I'm actually on TOS arguing with people who don't think Paul turns down open shots which I thought was a universal truth all agreed on

Paul is either coming back or moving on with his life. I would be shocked if he transfers elsewhere.
Is there a reason we can't start Cam, Derek, Paul, Cliff & Mag next year with Hyatt (if he stays), Choi, Gavin and Wolf coming off the bench? Paul would only have to play a guard spot when Cam or Derek is out of the game. Otherwise he can set up on the foul line or stay in the corner and shoot the three on the kick out.
IMHO the one who might go into the portal would be Hyatt. Also Reiber and Miller. They're going to want to go somewhere to play.
Lineup too small?

That lineup is possible. The team looked better finally post Mag when Simpson and Paul were both on the court. They both take pressure off each other to create every possession

If the "we" you're referring to is your potential multiple personalities then Yes.
Otherwise I think the consensus here is either he stays or moves on past basketball.
Yea, basically no one thinks Paul is transferring to another school. Odds of that are basically zero

It’s possible I guess but almost 100% of recruits rated as high as Gavin start as freshmen. And I’m not saying you hand it to him but if you don’t play a kid like that starter minutes other 5* notice. This is our new reality and it’s a good thing.

Plus - he got that rating for a reason
The ratings aren't infallible, but they aren't meaningless either
He's going to be one of our best players, maybe our best offensive player

I have a feeling that Paul will not enter the portal. It looks to me like he might be burned out. I think he either comes back or "retires" from basketball. I could also be 100% wrong.
