Here is how it breaks down:</SPAN>
OSU Pitching (552 IP)</SPAN>:

  • 419 H; 0.759 Hits/Inning</SPAN>
  • 183 R; 0.332 Runs/Inning
  • 136 ER; 0.246 ER/Inning</SPAN>
425 K, 0.770K/Inning
  • 165 BB; 0.299BB/Inning</SPAN>

MSU Pitching (598.3 IP):</SPAN>
</SPAN>
488 H; 0.816 Hits/Inning</SPAN>
235 R: 0.393 Runs/Inning184 ER; 0.308 ER/Inning </SPAN>

  • 549 K; 0.918K/Inning</SPAN>
223 BB 0.373 BB/Inning
</SPAN>
As you can see, the two pitching staffs are almost dead even. OSU holds the edge in 4 of 5 categories…barely. Hits/Inning is basically a statistical dead heat.

Edited to correct miscalculation in OSU's ER/Inning and to delete the point I was basing off of that information because I was unable to use a calculator correctly.</SPAN>

How is it possible for MSU to have a higher team ERA yet give up less earned runs per inning. Maybe I'm missing something but you might want to check your numbers

Don't underestimate Oregon State's schedule. According to Boyd's ISR, they played a tougher schedule than we did. I wouldn't go that far, but the PAC-12 does have as many teams in the CWS as the SEC does. And while their league was a little down in depth, OSU did play several pretty tough OOC series as well. This will be a very tough game. Winnable, but tough.

Y'all want to know why I always talk so animately about walks and errors? This OP is why. As you can see, we have thrown far more innings than OSU, given up more hits per inning, yet we have less earned runs than they do. When you have several contact pitchers like we do, there are going to be guys on base occasionally.....that's why it is crucial not to walk people and make errors, because it is almost a guarantee that you are putting more pressure on yourself than an average team because we will more than likely give up a hit in that inning.

When we are not giving up unearned runs....we win games in bunches. If we can find a way to have a near errorless CWS, and keep the walks down, we could very well win the whole damn thing. But mark my words, if we are put out quickly, check the walks and errors column for us. Chances are those two will be high if we have a short stay. And if they aren't high, but we still lost, then chances are we lost a few really close games and the other team was just better and more deserving than us.

I know it sounds elementary to say walks and errors kill you, but it is overemphasized with a team like ours. Not having a dominant Ace makes walks and errors more important because we don't have many guys that will strike their way out of a jam.

So anyway, That's what I'm hoping for...If we don't win it all, I want it to be because a better team beat us....not because we beat ourselves with errors and walks.

We are doomed ... **

Mental mistakes are costing us almost an extra run/Inning against our first round opponent. Can’t have that anymore.</SPAN>

So, mental mistakes are gonna cost us 9 runs a game against the beavs? We better hope we got some really 'hot' bats.**

Actually, think that State is statisticall 'higher' in all 5 categories ... giving up more hits/inning, runs/inning, er/inning, has more Ks/inning, and more bbs/inning. Only one that beneifits is 'k's/inning.' Did I miss something?
