Why do teams waste so many plays trying to run up the middle into heart of the defense ?
Or why do teams throw the ball 50 times and complete 25% of them?
Riverheads showed tonight they can pass with ease . I think they saw your post may not ever run up the middle again !lolWhy do teams waste so many plays trying to run up the middle into heart of the defense ?
Ask the Seahawks how passing at the goal line worked out for them!My most non favorite play.
1st & goal at the 1 and pass. Lol
My most non-favorite play:
3rd and long. Run up middle.
Be balanced, throw ball early to lossen up defense, get defense spread out and on their heels. Then running lanes will be there.
I agree with that statementWhy do teams waste so many plays trying to run up the middle into heart of the defense ?
I agree with that statement
There are safe, high percentage pass plays. Most importantly, the QB (or passing tailback) has to be coached to make smart decisions. When you pass 3 things happen and 2 of them are no good ! Run Run and Run up the middle !
When you pass 3 things happen and 2 of them are no good ! Run Run and Run up the middle !
Tell that to those who have played Riverheads !Too easy to defend.
Tell that to those who have played Riverheads !
I am saying Run B4 Pass and only pass to keep the D honest . 11 in the box and ignore the pass , you may get burned ! 1st down , 4 yards , 2nd down , 3 yds , 3rd down , 3 yds , and thats another Riverheads 1st down !
Any team that is very good and can win year in and year out should keep the program they have in place and keep doing it . Find something that works with the kids that you consistently get every year and stay with it ! Those years you get one or more super athletes , they make you look that much better . Don't change all you do every year to match personnel . Most kids can't learn a new system every year . Small changes go a long way. imo
Most of the time we are not lucky enough to be blessed with that kind of talent in 1A . 200 - 475 kids ! Play the cards you are dealt .I wontndisagree with that, when a feeder system gets kids prepared for a certain scheme and it works, no sense in changing. I was speaking more generally. But a team that can run and pass both at a high level is much harder to scheme against and stop, that's kinda common sense.
Ask Appomattox. I'm sure they would agree.Do you not agree its easier to scheme against a team when you know all they will do is run every play?
With good routes run, many teams cannot play good pass defense, especially on short and intermediate passes. I see too many teams run ball up middle play after play, knowing they probably ain't gonna get many yards. most good teams have a good defense in the middle. Hard to move them.
Now with all that's been said, some teams have their own schemes they have had for years, that are successful
i.e. Giles and Riverheads are 2 that pop in my mind . There are others I am not as familiar with.
My guess is that I was playing football before you were even thought of . What would prefer , Super Power , Buck or Gut ? I don't know much but my grandkids are teaching me a little !"Run it up the middle" is not a quote someone who knows football would ever use.
3.4 yards is all we ask for !"Run it up Middle" are the most feared words in football for bad teams. Granted there are different technical football terms for those type plays. But results are the same. (little or no gain)
If it isn't entertaining to you because you can't see the ball in the air just means learn to watch football from a different perspective... go watch giles offensive line and tell me that isn't as impressive or much more so than a pass happy spread team... I'd much rather watch a well oiled wing T team gash teams with belly trap and buck sweep than a team that throws it poorly 60 times a game
I get tired of the "Run it up the middle" nonsense because It's overused by people who don't know how to draw up a simple trap, tackle trap, belly, iso, midline, inside veer, wedge, guy, dive, inside zone<----see, I can name plays too. Just because you don't see it on TV on Saturdays or Sundays doesn't mean it isn't good...
