Salem fan support is far superior to many, many schools in the state and has been so for decades and decades. I won't listen to a bunch of kids lecture fans who've been going to games longer than they've been alive. Those kids don't know how good they have it at Salem, that's my point. They're as spoiled as players as we are as fans. This is not a one-way operation, players fuel the fans fuel the players.
You're still not getting it and neither did the player: the people posting on a freaking messageboard about HS football ARE the people who are always at games, home or away. They're the loyal fans. The parents, the bandwagon fans, those are the people who disappear after a couple losses, they aren't coming on here and talking about the game and then not going. When he goes to HV or CS this year, he'll see their hardcore fans because those are bad teams, those are the fans who support win or lose. It doesn't get so bleak at Salem but trust me when I say these kids don't know how empty a 7100 person stadium can look when the win totals drop. Salem is definitely not immune to that, far from it in fact.
I like how you apply this to me but not to the player. Fans are allowed to have opinions only you don't need to tell me because I've never once complained about anyone else's opinion on here despite agreeing or disagreeing with them but that's because I don't need to see one small little window of the world in order to not have a bad day.
I have absolutely no faith in the D, you're right. They have shown repeatedly against the 4 teams we've played this year that aren't a mess of a program that they aren't cutting it. 24 points in a quarter to Amherst, an inability to stop Dinwiddie from exerting their will when Dinwiddie needed it, the Blacksburg game, 400 yards passing to PH. 140 points and what I'd guess is 1900-2000 yards given up in 4 games. It's not a good D and this team is what it is but I don't hate them for it and I've never said otherwise. I've said from the start Salem can't win state every year, I'm perfectly fine when 10-3 (my prediction for the year), is considered a down year but I'm not going to sit here and lie and say everything is fine and do the "aw shucks" routine after they get blasted by 40 points.
I would love to be proven wrong about this D but I'm not going to just sit around and lie about it either. I'll still be at the games as always, apparently not being a loyal fan by kissing enough *** and spitting enough sunshine.
I think you are only seeing things through your glasses, and they certainly aren't rose colored. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, right or wrong, but you basically made yourself more important than the player because you have been there longer. You said you won't listen to a player, but if he comes on here he has to read what you said. Like I said, you wouldn't like it if someone was talking about you like that. Think about yourself at work, you have a very difficult job to do, you do your best, and then you have people saying you did a horrible job.
You're assessments of the team I have absolutely no issue with. It thinking that you can say them on a message board and nobody is allowed to have their opinions on it, which includes KIDS, who if you didn't know are not fully matured psychologically.
You also completely missed the point about fans. You said take a look at fans that dont win and don't care. Of course there are those everywhere, but there are also fans at every school that show up no matter what. Is it really a surprise to you that teams who aren't winning dont have as many fans? I dont understand where you were trying to go with it.
Ok, on to me addressing the negativity to you and not the kid. I said anyone can post, but they have the right to be upset when they see fans talking negativity. What's the difference in the kid or other posters not agreeing with your negativity, and you not liking people saying something positive? There is no difference, but you have your view and if someone says different you don't think it's right, it's not telling the truth to you. Just like you see no hope in your defense, someone else can see hope.
And of course I noticed how you didn't address the nobody has talked about anyone by name except kid with fumbles, when you talk about a position you are talking about them without saying their name.
Whether they win a championship or not, nobody will every year, they are 5-2 this season. Amherst was talked about pre season as a contender, Dinwiddie was the favorite, Blacksburg is 3a defending champion, and if I remember right, PH played Salem (champions last year) closely. They also lost to Amherst last year while winning a championship.
They beat Amherst and Patrick Henry, whether they gave up lots of yards and points, they won the games, sometimes you have to outscore teams. Look at the overwhelming super bowl favorites Patriots. They actually are a lot like Salem, were supposed to go undefeated with a lot of talent and what was supposed to be a great secondary.
Dinwiddie- undefeated, lost by 5
Blacksburg- lost to a state championship contender, lost by a lot
Patrick Henry- 2 loses before Salem to 2 championship contenders (Brookville and Blacksburg)
Amherst- loses to Blacksburg and JF, where it looked like even their fans said Amherst beat themselves.
It looks like to me that Blacksburg is GOOD. And Dinwiddie is GOOD
