I’ll say this and be ready to take any heat yall bring. I’m upset about the game yes… but what I’m about to say isn’t because of one game.

If Pope misses on these recruits. Doesn’t upgrade the talent next year then I’m off the bandwagon completely.

I’m team Pope 100% as of now. I want him to do good. If he misses on Stokes or Collins or Holt or Rippey I’m done and will be ready to move on. I’ll always support the cats but I’m not gonna watch Kentucky have tubby level talent with number one amount of resources.

I will never not support UK, but not bringing in elite talent is a recipe for failure. He has to prove he can get elite talent to sign. I know JJ and MM are 5 stars but without the KY ties do they still sign here?

No I don’t think they do. And I think Pope may of over paid for them knowing there’s no way he could miss on them. So I just want him to overpay for players that are game changers.

Having Tubby level talent works when you can coach.

Pay big for a guy like Stokes and go 7-8 deep next year vs spreading the money out for 12 ok guys.

This. I was critical of his roster selection the entire time he put it together because we paid a bunch of role players. I assumed we surely got a bargain but....quite the opposite.

Us paying so many guys is just nuts. If we're down to guy 12 or 13, the season is over regardless. Focus money on 8 guys then fill the rest with ky kids at a discount.

Have to wonder if UK needs to up the ante to get these guys to spend a year in Lexington, KY. Its no longer Kentucky and 6 other top spots. Theres now 60 places to go to, and sadly, Lexington, UK and the state of KY dont stand out on their own.

We have 22 million apparently. Am I crazy for thinking we can’t spend huge on our entire starting 5 then build around them? We have enough money to spend on all these players but we won’t give a couple a little extra.

You could literally pay a couple dudes five million. A couple absolute studs and then fill it in with complimentary peices.

That’s 10 million for two studs. You got 12 million left to get 6 or 7 guys. You could even go top heavy and get a few more top tier studs for like 2.5 a peice. I just feel like the 22 million isn’t true.

How can someone spend 22 million and then put that product on the court? Something is bad wrong with this picture!
IF the 22 million is correct, then Pope & UK need a refund. What ever the amount to Mo D should have been thrown to Wilson.
His size and athletic ability could sure be helpful. I also like Jelavic. He played pretty well last night. Thus far Jasper looks vastly over paid.

Here is all i know. That number was reported by several reputable outlets. Iirc even Goodman reported it just before or just after coming to interview Pope. That number was never once disputed.

Instead, Pope openly embraced being the nil leader in basketball.

So whatever the number is, it is certain we're paying the most direct nil for basketball. Schools like Duke is arranging more nil for sure, but its coming from sources other than their collective. All our money comes from basically one donor.

One thing concerning is that if Pope can not make run with huge NIL

Will he get large amount of money next season? It could get worse and worse

don't know how talented JQ is........he hasn't played yet & may not
I truly hope that he can return @ 100% and dominates the inside, blocking shots & grabbing rebounds
He was top 10 hs recruit, five star obviously

And was big 12 all defensive team at 17 years old

He is definitely very talented

and that one donor can not compete with schools that have multiple millionaire donors.
maybe uk could contact Beszos ex-wife and ask her for a donation

This is what I keep coming back to… How does a program as valuable as UK spend $22 million (I don’t personally believe that) on a roster and not land a single perennial stud?

Dybantsa, Peterson, Peat, Wilson, Ament, et al, came in at, or less than that amount collectively, for their respective programs! Don’t care about freshmen? How about the Dent or Lendeborg types that were available in the portal to the highest bidder?

Something is seriously amiss here💯💯

If you are talking about competing in more than one sport, i agree. At least since Pope and Brooks arrived, it seems we are definitely intent on investing in basketball and hoops.

So in terms of the topic of discussion, basketball collective money, UK basketball is top of the heap.

You constantly take up for Stoops but trash Pope. Yeah you’re definitely a troll
Pope and Stoops situation is not the same. Winning in basketball at Kentucky is a lot easier than winning in Football at Kentucky. I speak in reality and if that is taking up for Stoops and trashing Pope, that is your opinion. The problem is Pope did not learn from Cal's mistake. Cal liked to talk to much in his press conferences. Pope does the same. To tell this fan base that this team reminds him of the 1996 team is insulting not only the Kentucky basketball fans but also the players that were on that team. He can Coach offense, but he lacks a lot on defense. He is probably the worst defensive coach that UK has had in my life time.
If the reports are accurate, he was given 22 million for a 15 team roster. That means he had an average of 1.46 million a player. If we want equality, then that means the football team would need 153 million to build their roster.

So 22M wasn't enough for us to be elite? We need even more??
Jesus, we are already the highest spenders in the nation (outside of maybe Duke). It's like we are born on third base and still can't get home.
