People talk about the head coaching experience that Hatcher and Hudspeth have, but I don't think that is going to translate to the SEC. What I mean by that is there will be a learning curve. That's the biggest source of concern about hiring a coordinator, yet Hatcher and Hudspeth will likely have the same issue. What then do we gain by hiring them over a Wilson? I don't think any.
Meanwhile, a big time BCS coordinator hasn't been head coach, but he knows how to recruit against and compete against BCS programs and handle the media scrutiny. Hatcher and Hudspeth don't know how to do those things. If both Wilson/Mullen and Hatcher/Hudspeth have to learn how to be head coach in the SEC but yet the former are more prepared than the latter for facing better programs on the field and in recruiting, which hire is better?
We can't afford to go too risky with this hire. Hatcher and Hudspeth are just too risky.
