Please Tell Me The Sellout Streak Will Not End

Its pretty artificial at this point.
The sell out streak is in jeopardy. No less than 3 weeks ago tickets were still available for some games. They had them advertised during Husker Volleyball matches, they announced the available tickets were "returned visitor allotments".
I never felt good about the stadium expansion. I always wondered in the back of my mind if NU was being realistic about our chances of continuing to sell out, if there were more seats. Right now though, least of our problems.
I didn't say it was our biggest problem or worry.

I think it means a lot to the older generation. I facetimed with my dad and grandpa last night. They are diehards like every single one of us, but aren't involved in rivals, twitter, or anything technological. They argued with me for 10 minutes that the streak won't end that Husker fans will continue to show up. I agree that fans will continue to show up because of the pride us Nebraskans have for our team. It means a heck of a lot to the older generation, but we are in trouble with the younger generation coming up. I just don't see the passion anymore, and growing up wanting nothing but to be a Husker has gone out the window. Change happens, but it is sad.
With the opponents of the last 2 home games being somewhat attractive I doubt the stadium will be as empty as some people think it will be. There is also the fact that this team (likely) won't be going to a bowl game, so see them while you can....

It also matters because the Athletic Department raises a significant amount of money through required donations for those seats. If tickets become easy to get (which they have lately) season ticket holders are going to (1) drop some or all of their season tickets and just buy tickets to the games that they really want to attend and/or (2) they will continue to bid down the required contribution amount.
I mainly do it on the parts I like to stress. Kinda like, Stay On Topic!

There aren't "extra" tickets, obviously the average-joe fan doesn't understand the sell-out streak.
I do think it will be in trouble next year. People are losing interest in Nebraska football. It has been 2 decades since Nebraska was important. Especially the younger generation, (30 and under) Most don't remember the good years. The history means nothing of importants to them. Just like it means nothing to this generation of recruits.
We are at a very critical time in the history of this program. I believe if the wins don't start coming in the next 5-10 years we will be considered nothing more than a Illinois and Purdue type program for good. Yes we may have a good run here and there but will not longer be considered a "historic" program.
The people who are ready to go nuclear and throw down big money today for a big name coach, in 5-10 years will still have the same money at their disposal.

Hell, my buddies at work are 34 and 47, and neither became a fan until the Callahan years, and are the most pissed off people I know about the season record. Which is kind of mind boggling, because they act like 90's fans, but they've never even seen good NU football.

Sure it might be artificial recently, but the rest of the country doesn't know that. It's also nearly a 50 year record, and no small matter if it ends. If it lasts another 50 years, people aren't going to know that it was artificial around 2015.

Actually the streak started in 62, so technically the streak has exceeded 50 years.
