Well, they’re right on one thing, it’s not an “illegal” Ponzi scheme. It’s a very LEGAL Ponzi scheme.
Remember I grew up in McDowell county? It was 90% democrats back then. These are people I grew up with. One even said maybe I could get by without it. I just pointed out that the govt. rrpubs and dems, raided the fund for their own personal projects. I think I heard that the IOUs are held in a building in Parkersburg thanks to Byrd. There’s no way it should be insolvent. Congress isn’t disciplined.

Yes, it’s a disgrace how badly they mismanaged that program. Like you, I don’t need it but I am not willing to say no to the payments when I’m eligible to receive them. However, I do have my suspicions that those of us who did the right things of living within our means, saved and invested wisely, and thankfully didn’t experience any terrible and costly illness, are going to see our benefits reduced greatly. Those that didn’t necessarily do the right things will benefit the most. Just a hunch that that day is coming.

Typical MAGA approach, take things out of context. Had you copied my ENTIRE sentence, it changes the tone completely. Here, I’ll help you.

“However, rising inflation (from self-inflicted tariffs) is going to be a mighty strong headwind for economic prosperity to overcome.”

EVERYTHING I wrote is TRUE!! It is going to make it much harder for the economy to overcome a 10+% consumption tax. You claim to hate taxes yet you support tariffs. Tariff = Tax. And yes, they are Self-Inflicted. We imposed them on OURSELVES. Who else is to blame? Do you understand how tariffs work? I’m starting to wonder.
It’s not taking anything out of context. You expressly blamed Trumps tariffs for inflation.

Also, I never claimed to hate taxes. You made that up too.

Typical leftist. Can’t be honest.

At 70, I doubt if they’re going to be able to reduce mine too much. Congress just hasn’t met a dollar that it didn’t want to spend $1.50😁

Medicaid and Social Welfare programs are part of life. We can’t simply abandon the old and sick in this country. We’re better than that. What we can do is try and make those programs as efficient and effective as possible yet maintain our compassion for those in need. What I would like to see is offer people the option to pay into social security or instead keep the money and invest it themselves with the knowledge that they won’t receive any SS benefits upon retirement. Of course, I would insist and monitor that they are investing those dollars. And give them specific mutual fund options to choose from. I wouldn’t allow them to use the money for speculative investments like Bitcoin and other less mainstream options. Must be highly liquid, highly stable options. Essentially index funds. A stock index, a bond index and treasury/cash fund is all you need. Unfortunately we have gotten ourselves into a Ponzi scheme situation where you constantly need new money to pay the retirees because it wasn’t invested well. AND people are living longer and receiving much more than they paid in. I believe I would have taken that deal if offered when I first started working. You’re essentially betting on yourself.
Yes we can help the sick and elderly and those wouldn't break us especially if we get rid of fraud and waist. Its those who count on government for needs while spending all they can on wants .
We punish good choices with taxes to pay for bad choices.
Had government left ss alone , the way it was originally planned, it wouldn't be in bad shape . Agree the funds should have been invested.
