The last time most people on a message board was warm and fuzzy about UK BB at this point, this early in the season, was the 38-0 season when Cal crapped himself in the FF. Even then the LOD was probably "afraid of ___ ..."

Seems to me like Pope is trying to figure out who to keep and who to bench, who's going to buy in and who's going to be bought out, or MORE LIKELY how long of a rope to give the players that don't want to play team basketball. The night and day difference between this team and the one that played Purdue in the exhibition is a little shocking even for me, but ship happens between employees and it can go sideways real fast when the cast isn't getting along.
There's only so much management can do.
Imagine knowing that your position as a teacher may DEPEND, like the expanding school budget, on those illegal immigrant children being in your classroom...
So much revenue to schools is based on enrollment/class size, composition of the class, and learning deficits that it's massive and Widespread Panic thinking they will be sent back to their COO. I know at least one teacher that got their first job in the last year because of over-crowded classrooms made a school add another position. Now they might be looking for a job again this spring.
Yet that has been the one, MAJOR focus of boosters at this school for 30 years. They have always wanted "a KENTUCKY guy" to be UKFB HC, even while choking off the money for football recruiting and facilities to benefit basketball. Part of the basketball HC's contract now and has been for a while is access to/use of a PRIVATE PLANE for recruiting+, while the same has not been the case for football.
Not saying they've never had any access, but they HAVE NOT had much access, and definitely not proportional to revenue generated for the athletic dept.
It's (them wanting a UK guy) weird for many reasons, the first of which was well illustrated by Joker. He grew up a fan, played here, and then coached like it. He never thought we could do what Stoops has done. He never thought 4-5 star recruits would want to come here. He was so lacking in hope and vision that he set the bar at knee level.
That's exactly what this FB program has been for generations. It's exactly what Brooks was brought here to change. Yet it's exactly what everyone here gravitated towards. It makes sense psychologically, but not when you hear people say they want it to change. In order for it to change, people have to LET GO of the past PERMANENTLY and stop punishing the team and staff TODAY for the deeply personal disappointments of the past 60 years.
I had hoped UK fans could do that, but 30 years of them clinging to stuff like "the Bluegrass Miracle," pining for the players/coaches they didn't get, and never wanting or supporting the coach/player/team they do have has dispelled any reason for optimism in that regard.
In 2018 people were so busy tearing apart our QB AND OFFENSE daily they didn't even get to enjoy the best fb season in 50 YEARS. FIFTY!!! It's nuts and will continue to be until CWS holds some massive, offseason group therapy sessions...

His take is anecdotal, though. Not every teacher is experiencing this anomaly. I’m sure he has Hispanics and I bet some or most are here illegally, but I don’t think that number is 1:5 kids in the district are illegal.
I actually just looked it up and 17% of Charlotte-Mecklenburg county kids are ESL. So a little more validity to the story

Thanksgiving one week away. Probably my favorite holiday. A day to give thanks and be with family and friends.
