That's a question for IU. Objectively speaking though, it IS an easier job. Not really debatable.

I can't even imagine a scenario where a first year UK coach goes 11-1, has an 8-1 conference record, and makes the college football playoffs, in the SEC.

I guess a pretty good case could be made that UK football fans' loyalty (showing up, year after year, disproportionally so, given the "product") might have, in fact, HURT them, if it developed a "take them for granted" they'll keep coming, for the most part, win or lose culture up in the ivory tower.

Sort of like Chicago Cubs ownership did for decade after decade.

Frankly, IU is a much easier place to win than Kentucky. The state has twice the population of Kentucky, the league is easier, and it's situated closer to major metropolitan recruiting centers.

Not saying IU is a piece of cake, but it's an exponentially easier job than Kentucky.

Kentucky truly IS one of the toughest major college coaching jobs in the country. Maybe the TOUGHEST.

And here is the kicker. It's getting harder every year, and that isn't going to change. It will continue to get more and more difficult. For reasons that UK can't control.

That's the straight dope. And, deep down, all of you/us know it. LOL
Nebraska is another tough job. Under 2/3 population of KY. Isolated.

For sure, but there is a lot of tradition there, and they still have the foundation on which that was built. That's a decent leg up on us. And I know the Big 10 has improved, relative to the SEC, but there is only ONE SEC. And it is an absolute meat grinder.

Just my opinion, but it's easy to mistake increased parity amongst the top of the SEC as evidence that the gap between us (UK) and them has narrowed. I don't think that's the case. Would love to be wrong though.

UK's biggest problem, it seems to me, is just a constant propensity to "play it safe" "We got a coach that won 10 games in a season TWICE! We need to hang on to that for dear life, no matter the cost" That is such a "scared", "money in the mattress" attitude, and robs us of the ability to act quickly and decisively, like EVERYONE ELSE in our league does, when it's clear we're headed for the falls. Other programs eat the money, cut bait, and move on. We hang on to 7-6 and a bowl loss seasons like they're the Hope ****ing diamond.

I'll give credit to cole on THAT. He's exactly right when he says that UK will take safe mediocrity over swinging for the fences 24/7

Name another solid SEC program (or a mediocre/BAD one) that would wait for 4 years, during which they had SEVEN conference wins total to send their coach packing. They'd eat FIFTY million dollars if they had to.

In 2002 I was a student at UK, I was at every Kentucky home football game that year, but the Bluegrass Miracle.

I was at home in western Kentucky and was watching the game with my dad (who loves Kentucky football more than basketball, was a football season ticket holder from the 1970s until just a few years ago.)

When LSU scored, my dad didn't say a word, he walked out at the back door and wasn't seen for hours. He owned about 100 acres back then, I don't know where he went. His truck was still there, I asked him years later where he went and he couldn't remember haha. It was like he just walked out into the woods...despondent.
Well I couldn't do that since I was there. The worst of it was watching idiots - typical unknowledgeable FB fans - tearing down the goal posts as it ended. What TDAssery.

I haven’t seen it mentioned in these stories of UK football kicking us fans in the nuts, but an underrated dick kick was the 7OT loss to Arkansas.

My dad, God rest his soul, was one who had trouble staying awake. He went to football games for a good time, but was never a die hard when we had season tickets. For some reason my dad was having more trouble than usual staying awake that night, so he went to the car at halftime to lay down. Dude had a full nights sleep by the time we got back to the car.

Walking out of Commonwealth after the Mardi Gras Miracle, and we were making that never ending walk down the corner ramps in silence when the guy in front of me, looking down at his feet says, “It’s just like when the Twin Towers went down.” 😂 Talk about lack of perspective…….

I had rented a cabin for that weekend and had to listen to that game in my car. Got up the next morning and packed up. My dumb@ss had ran the battery down. The beers my or may not have contributed to my stupidity.

Leach and Josh Heupel are proof of what the Mumme system "tree" can accomplish (IF you're willing to not IGNORE what is going on around you, and not hire "buddies")

I think the reticence to hire Leach instead of Stoops, back in the day (because of the Mumme "stain") was a mistake that we're still paying for. Yes, Leach had some issues at Tech, but here is the rub; that kind of stuff doesn't bother the REST of the SEC. And so you see where THAT gets you.
That's nothing compared to not hiring Schnellenberger in '96.

Pinner was a wrecking ball that year. So yes, Kentucky can win as a power running team. They can win as a west coast passing team. The KEY is consistency.
See, that's thing for me: a 4-10 yd run up the gut with defenders falling off the runner are the most beautiful plays there are. Get my blood boiling w/o being mad.

Sure it does, if you have a coach that has a history of boring offense, a string of subpar Qb's, and yearly OC change out, on top of the embarrassing Texas A&M debacle it's gonna be hard to get quality transfers.

The path to an SEC title or Championship appearance is much easier now than just 5 years ago for UK, with the right coaching staff.
Disagree. I don't GAD who the coach is with the lack of administration commitment to FB that UK has. Can we get someone better than Stoops? Most likely. And in 3-5 years he'll get us back to 0.500.

24 scheduled across Kentucky including one within walking distance from my house, 3-4 PM. Yeah that'll show 'em. Come out and protest for 1 full hour. Wimps.
WTF is the deal with these No Kings protests? It's nothing but pathetic performative political theater. I wish the libs were still posting on here to explain and justify this $h!t.

I think this is true for most fans. Kentucky loves football and craves good football.
Which do you think most UK fans would prefer: A men's Hoops NCAA title or a (mere, LOL) SEC football title? It's an easy choice for those UK fans who love football.
I’m sure there are some pass happy nuts out there but the majority just want good football. Generalizing UK fans is wrong IMO.
Is it wrong to generalize that most UK fans prefer hoops to football?
UK’s fans are no different than any other fan base. Silly to suggest otherwise if not a little bit arrogant and to blame UK fans in any way on the overall lack of success is just plain dumb.
UK fans are different. I don't fault them for preferring success in hoops, but that preference hurts the football program's perception. No other SEC team has to deal with that.

That 7 OT Arkansas games was one of my most bittersweet memories. Bitter because of the loss, but sweet because it was my sons first game. He was four years old and I decided it was finally time he could attend a game with me. He was asleep on the bleacher after the second OT, but he LOVED being there, So much so he eventually went to UK himself and was a member of the Marching Band. He may actually be there with me this weekend if my wife decides to stay home.

I believe that was also the game where we had a pig roast at our tailgate.
