Please, Greg, end our misery now....This is from USM's beat writer's blog at the CL....

"Mississippi State coach Ron Polk was not pleased at all with fans seated down the left field side at Pete Taylor Park and he expressed it after his team lost 11-7 to Southern Miss.

"I've got trouble with about eight or nine fans, they're the worst," Polk said. "These are good fans here, but there is no place I've been in 40 years, SEC, anywhere as brutal as those fans down there. There's only eight or nine of them and they don't control them. It's unfortunate."

Polk did not stop there in his commentary on Southern Miss fans.

"I think they need to be addressed and there is no place else as bad as this place," Polk said. "We don't play USM in basketball and football and maybe that's the reason, because their fans are so brutal, but not all of them. It's only about seven or eight."</p>

The two teams resume play at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pete Taylor Park."</p>

Obviously there is a line fans don't cross when it comes to heckling players, and I've toed it many a times (a la little sisters, pictures of girlfriends etc). But seriously, instead of letting the coach ***** about it to the media, the players should nut up and drill one out of the park I was 20 feet away a few years ago when Seth Smith got doused with beer in the right field corner of DNF-PDS, which is over the line (that prick deserved it nonetheless), but <17>, I don't recall Bianco whining like that. I'm sure Seth jacked one out that series too, he dominated us.

Unfortunately, it's probably too late for our players to nut up and salvage this season. It's okay, we'll just keep losing midweek games to lower level competition, while Polk reems both the NCAA and the USM fans camped out in Nitchampsville.

Also, I don't think anyone has ever had a more important first month (official month, June 1-31) on the job than that of Greg Byrne. I've met and spoke with the Byrnes a number of times since Greg was chosen to follow LT, and he seems to have the balls to tell Polk to f-off. Hey, he may still hire Raffo, I don't know, but he's not going to think twice once he picks his guy.

He should be going off on his players about the lack of RBI production but no, he gets upset about USM fans. This man has lost it in everyway. I wish this season were over tonight.

Looks like the roaming Gnome is about to snap. This time, when you haul him away you need to keep him in the Violent offender cell for a while.

as it shouldn't bother him that much but there are a couple of guys who just blurt stuff constantly - most of it not even funny. I go to a couple of USM games a year and I don't know how the folks that sit around a couple of these guys take it. It can wear on you quick.

I'm sure everyplace has them though so don't know why Polk gets so upset.

the best part is that he actually suggests that we don't play them in football and basketball because of hecklers. has he ever been to a basketball game in hattiesburg? no one is around to heckle. second, we don't play them in football for a number of reasons that are much worse than the people in the stands....one of those reasons being that we may get our asses handed to us like last night and football doesn't have enough games to just throw up their hands and say "that's football."

i also like the idea that he must be looking at his feet when he walks out to the third baseline during games since there is no one even considering heckling the opposing team's outfielders from LFL. two years ago i sat and listened to some retard loudly offering a jackson state player (who he addressed as "hey boy") fried chicken, watermelon, and chitterlins for 3 straight innings. to make it worse we were killing them by at least 10 runs at the time. there was no one at the game so i bet you could hear that **** in the dugout. i can assure you there isn't much worse that you could say to polk's old *** to get him as mad as that guy was.

you can bet that the heckling will come from many more places around that field tonight. 7 or 8 is gonna turn into at least a hundred just because of these comments.</p>

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I thought 7 or 8 USM fans = All of USM's fans.

back in about 98 or so. Got his foot caught in the fence. At the top of the next inning, said Florida outfielder launched a home run right into the student section.

Haha, see that's how you respond.

Last time Florida was in town, after a long Saturday of yelling at Laporta and the BP catcher Quatrino they met up with us at Rick's for dollar night. Laporta went something like 0-11 on the weekend, but that guy could down tequila like it was his job, and did so that night until about 3am. I'm sure McMahon was proud.

and the hazing that comes from out there, especially during regionals?

Bless their hearts, they are getting their asses beat every week, and are getting made fun by opposing fans.

Hey Polk, you are embarassing Mississippi State University with that grab *** product you put on the field this year. But it's not your fault, it's the NCAA's fault, right?

....let me remind you that you have to play them there again today. Do you think they're going to be NICER tonight because of your little rant? Boy, you've set yourself up for this one.

Sheesh....

This is exactly why you have to go. Most normal coaches and teams, this motivates them to play better- not to whine and complain about it. You have become a whiny little old man that needs to go to a rest home. Please vacate asap.</p>

I am embarrassed he is complaining about heckling. Good grief. How bout winning the game and telling them to eat a dick?</p>

But the sad part is, he's right. They do have awful fans. Now, maybe it's not his place to say something, but those several people up there are awful. There is a difference in State fans heckling for pure fun and enjoyment as someone stated with the pictures of girlfriends and yada yada yada... however, it's different here. I love baseball, and I don't go to games for that simple reason..

i would bet there are a lot of players from opposing teams who cringe when they think back on days standing in left field. for example when we played clemson last year the left fielder listed on his myspace page that someone he would like to meet would be his father since he never knew him. so as he ran onto the field a crapload of people started screaming "who's your daddy."

the point is that fans stepping across the lines when heckling happens all of the time and polk needs to get his panties out of his *** and beat those teams to shut the hecklers up. instead he just bitches like a little girl.</p>

Does MSU have much "room to talk" on the heckling issue? We give every left and right fielder the business, much less the bullpen catcher. Not sure what the USM idiots are doing, but everyone's fans have crossed the line and will do it again.

Polk is just on his last crusade, I suppose.

Sad.

everybody has awful fans. If they step over the line repeatedly, make an errant throw into that group during warm ups. Laugh at them. If stuff like that doesnt motivate you, there is something wrong with you.

I can't believe this. Just when you think he can't stoop to a new low, Polk manages to somehow outdo himself.

I actually have sat in those bleachers when USM was playing State. Yes, they heckled. It wasn't that bad. It was mainly stupid stuff, so it was a LOT more annoying than offensive. Rule #1 of heckling is don't do it the entire game because after three hours, you get old. They routinely break this rule, but it does not deserve mention on the radio. I find it hard to believe that Polk has NEVER been heckled at Ole Miss, LSU, Bama, and etc. Several have mentioned our own fans- I would imagine that we are one of the worst at heckling in the SEC. The fans in the grandstand at MSU aren't so rowdy because A. They aren't there because they're hoping to get ticket priority should we host a Regional. B. They are the holier than thou crowd that buys Polks BS. or C. They are a parent to one of the players.

Obviously they said something that struck a nerve- probably something pertaining to us not wanting him or Raffo. He seems to be very sensitive about that subject.

I'm with ya'll. I don't think Polk should have said anything.... I was just saying that they are awful fans. I love heckling, don't get me wrong. Matter of fact, I embarrass many of the people I'm with because of it... However, they cross that line that we're talking about every game. Not they... One guy in particular that I know of... The only time I've ever seen him thrown out of a game was when they were playing UNO right after Katrina and he started making VERY off color jokes about Katrina and UNO. Then, he started telling a player he needed to "eat more hot dogs you fatty" when he, himself, was a pretty hefty character (actually fatter than the player he was heckling). For me, it's not the fact that they poke a little fun at the players, its the fact that the majority of them have no idea what they are talking about... A pretty ignorant fanbase when it comes to baseball.
