Would you be happy if he returned for a sophomore season?

Two National titles, three Elite Eights, a pair of Sweet 16s, four ACC titles, two number one draft picks, four ACC Player of the Year winners and six first-team All-Americans. And getting to watch Zion Williamson in a Duke uniform.

That's the decade we just completed. To those bitching, and you've been one of them, is that not excellence?

2 first round exits 1 second and embarrassed in 5 of the exits with 3 being blow outs. No that’s not

And technically, it's seven times in the Sweet Sixteen and five times in the Elite Eight the past 10 years.

Going one step further, we're 49-17 over the last 20 years in the NCAAT for over a 74% winning percentage. That's just short of averaging an Elite Eight appearance every year for two decades. One program, UNC, has more wins than us. They have 50.

That to me is kind of the epitome of an entitled post. "We shouldn't settle" - what does that even mean? Don't forget that you (just like me and everyone else here) are absolutely nobody. We have no way to alter any outcomes, so we don't settle or not settle for anything. We all want them to win, and burning people down because they didn't and you didn't get your way does not make you a better fan.

The idea to me that is silly is the notion that there are only two ways to be a Duke fan in this instance: either to be disgusted at the loss and take subtle (and not so subtle) jabs at the coaches and players, or that you are okay with losing. Those aren't the only two options, I assure you. This loss hurts, but it isn't going to make me a pouty child stopping my foot.

I’m not being a child or stomping my foot. I get it but we are duke we shouldn’t be happy unless a final four. Neither should the other programs... and I assure you they aren’t

Yep....it hasn't always ended pretty. No one is saying that. It also feels like it should be more. No one isn't saying that, either. But your posts do reek of entitlement. No matter how you go back over the last 40 years or break it down, there's no program who has won more or more frequently than Duke. That's not opinion, it's not subjective, nor used for conjecture. It's the truth. But like I said....that's not meant to mean there hasn't been frustration. The frustration comes from being spoiled. That's the point.

I think it's easy not to respect just how tough it is to live up to expectations. Let alone win championships. Maybe we need to reflect on how we apply expectations to our teams. Why did we expect to win the title this year? Hype. Hype doesn't win ****. As much talent this team had, it was young and inexperienced talent. And it wasn't deep enough and they still were a couple of missed plays away from making it to the Final Four and having a chance at a championship. It is Friday and I have had enough time to look back and appreciate what we had and get over it. And I am not even that mature. Grow up, get over it and quit expecting too much out of a bunch of Freshmen.

If you have a real problem with me I’m happy to give you my email and we can discuss this off the board. It’s not very fair to everyone else to read this. I dont even know what started it but I’m willing to figure it out if you want to do so

But isnt it a good thing? We’ve been great and don’t want it to end. This year we had overwhelmingly good talent and couldn’t do it. It could in essence all come crashing down (it won’t) but still. I don’t want it to end. I don’t want to be mediocre and part of that is TCB when you are better

I agree that’s part of the problem. ESPN and the hype masters don’t help(we have those here) after so much hype you just think man maybe we are that great. Then we have that Kentucky game which is the best performance I’ve seen in college basketball in almost 20 years so then we know what our top performance looks like and we never hit it again. It’s painful

Like I said, frustration exists. I also acknowledged that we could have been even more successful.

To your point about mediocrity....we're not even close. Missing out on the Final Four is beyond maddening this year and last year because of how close we were, but two Elite Eight's isn't "everyday Joe" kind of stuff.

There are just so many factors. I think Duke's Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight opponents were both better than any team UVA had to play to make it all the way to the Final Four. They could win a National Championship without having to beat Duke, Gonzaga, UNC, Tenn., UK, or Michigan, and I can't imagine anyone would have guessed there was a championship path that avoided all of those people. It is what it is.

I don't have much experience in dealing with you. But man, for someone who has to have most of his posts professionally decoded to comprehend them, you sure do throw moron around a lot.

Well pal I tried
Should have thought about that before you started all this mess from getting called out on your moronic comment and resorting to name calling and mama jokes in defense about it. The difference between me and you is you just make up stuff about me and have no clue who i am. The stuff I say about you is in black and white! Keep running and resorting to your bolonga trying to act like the bigger guy now hahaha peace

Leigh, Mercer, Lville blow out, nova blow out, Arizona blow out

The two first rounders sucked. There is no disagreement here.

The Villanova game wasn't in this decade. Even still, we returned a lot of those guys the following year and won a title. I'm not mad at that.

2011's title aspirations pretty much went down with Kyrie. They were pretty much nailed shut when Coach K tried to reincorporate him into the lineup. Again, I'm not mad at that because he did right by the player.

As far as the game itself, Arizona picked up the momentum at the end of the first half and never relinquished it. Win or lose, our tournament was over two days later because Kemba Walker wasn't letting UConn lose that year. It became obvious during the Big East tournament the 2011 Huskies were a team of destiny. It is hard for me to sit around eight years later and be embarrassed about that game, or really even think about it once I put it in context.

Finally, the Louisville game was a freak game with the Kevin Ware injury. It deflated the game and his team rallied around him and steamrolled us. That Louisville team won the title and were weren't even a top 5 team, so I don't consider that an embarrassment.

Reality is, you attempted to negate all the elite accomplishments I listed in this decade by pointing to five losses, three of which took place in tournaments where were not anywhere close to championship caliber teams.

Spoiled and entitled? You mean a blue blood like carolina, Kentucky, Kansas? You mean we shouldn’t expect excellence? I’m sorry but this is who we are and who we have been we’re better than 300+ D1 schools and to settle for anything else is just plan dumb

I agree with you. This program goes into every year on mission of NCAA TITLE.To miss out on the FF at Duke is considered a disappointment. Thats the brand K built and the entire program expects EXCELLENCE!

Elite 8 is just that; elite. It's not top of the mountain but it's where we should be, knocking on the door of the FF. We were spoiled by our 90's success. I hate losing and not making the FF, but we were so close. I am a Notre Dame football fan (yeah I know) and they made the playoff this year. I was happy because that's where they should be. Now we lose to UCF and it's a different story.

Are you of the opinion Coach K has only achieved excellence 30 percent of the time at Duke? That's what his 12 Final Fours equal.

If excellence were defined just by winning, then you'd be right.

Bottom line in most cases it is. However obviously building a program THE RIGHT WAY and BUILDING CHARACTER are the cornerstones, and Coach K is exemplary in that fashion.

My point is I agreed with what PISGAH was saying reference the Duke expectations. Its just like ALABAMA or CLEMSON really in college football.

Btw Dukie, this is your old pal HART2CHESSON.....Somehow got logged out and only way I could get back in was changing my name....lol, senility...Btw, hear you are the 2nd coming of Jay Bilas now???

The thing that stinks is that everyone outside of the Duke fan base does not think we are doing it the right way. I hear it all the time. That we are renting players etc. We can disagree but that is the perception now.

I don't worry about that. 100% of them would have taken guys like Zion, RJ, Bagley, Tatum, Ingram, etc. if they could have.
