Why is everyone so high on Cignetti? He makes it to the playoffs but then loses. Do people think he will win championships all the sudden somehow at PSU?
He has 27 transfers on his team, Starting QB,-#1 & #2 RB's, 3 of 6 WR's, both TE's, 3 of 5 starting OL, 7 of 11 DL, 1 of 5 LB's , 5 of 9 DB's.

That's a lot of transfers, so far it's working , as much as CFB fans are impressed as myself, i wonder if there is some
avoidance of recruiting in favor of the portal. His age, his buyout, his staff, etc.

This is the football equivalent of knocking Brad Stevens by pointing out that he was 0-2 in NCAA Title Games at Butler. Who wants him if he can't win championships?
Fair but if Stevens was 65 at that point he wouldn't have been sought after.

I’m going strictly on the insinuation that Cignetti not having success in the playoffs is a knock against him given the circumstances. Anyone would admit that it’s a ridiculous criticism at this point.
That's fair
I'd like more continued success but he's clearly a good/great coach

If this is about winning, you call Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, in that order.
No question Saban is a winner. That said, he's 73, and looked really drained after his stint at Alabama. I dunno, bring him in for a couple years, then have him turn the keys over to a hand-picked successor, a new Kirby Smart? Maybe.

The thing is, Meyer is younger and he's been "on vacation" long enough to recharge his batteries.

That said, I'd be beyond thrilled with either one.

I hate the school but if Kraft can get Marcus Freeman, it could be a home run. Defensive minded coach but young, energetic, great recruiter, seems to have good game day management. I see the PSU job as parallel with Notre Lame. They have more $ arguably (tv contracts), but less leeway without being in a conference. Also, he’s familiar with our recruiting area (gets many PSU targets) and in fact recruits very well nationally.
Name the next PSU HFC who lost to both Marshall and Northern Illinois while HC of the most storied football program in the US

Honestly Freeman is a nightmare scenario for me. Might as well have kept Franklin. He's in the group with Rhule that just don't make sense. Better than Rhule though.

Pipe Dream ===> Dan Campbell

Kingsbury ... although his recent life reflection and choices may indicate he's not interested despite the dump truck load of cash backing up
does he bring in decent to good recruiting possibly, especially at QB

I guess Matt Campbell is as good as any cant speak intelligently on his pluses and minuses
Dan Campbell is a great example of why this search shouldn't be limited to proven HCs. Find his energy level and aggressiveness with a young coordinator that embraces NIL and the portal.

A young Coordinator would definitely need a GM. But I am for it.

Campbell definitely needs to be on this list and he better be on PSU short list as well.

Matt Campbell doesn’t do anything for me. I know he is a good coach, but he seems to be at a school that is a tier below the powerhouses and it seems to fit him well. I can’t see recruits lining up to come to PSU for Matt Campbell. Maybe I’m wrong. Just my 2 cents.

Joe Brady??? C'mon people.

He's nothing other than an offensive-minded geek.

He's never really been responsible for supervising other people, let alone a large staff including some of those "defensive people".

I truly don't know where some of you people come up with these insane ideas. 🤷‍♀️

PSU is in desperate need of a proven football coach familiar with all phases of the game. Joe Brady isn't that guy.

We don't need someone that was a HC--was Kirby Smart "only a coordinator"

My top 3 in no order are

Urban Meyer
Matt Campbell
Curt Cignetti

IMO We need to recruit and build our offense around a mobile QB that can run the RPO.
Thats the problem with most coaches. They have one offense style in mind (defense too) ... but to make it work, he has to have the right kind of players ... players with the necessary skill set. I can use one example at ND ... Lou Holtz who favored the option offense, but recruited Ron Powlus ... didn't produce his best 4 years. Powlus would have probably been more successful in a pro-style offense.

Look at the lack of talent he has had to work with. Read somewhere that he has 0 five-star players and only 4 or 5 four-star players on the team. His teams is made up of players who were rated 3 stars or less, but he has developed them and worked them up.

If he has the talent PSU can attract ... could he do better? Who knows?

First thing that has to happen, "Stab You in the Back" AD has to go. I hope the team takes him in the lockeroom, and reminds him they are not his kids. He is a smug pretentious son of a *****, that's a hired gun for that Band Of Turds that line their own pockets with the PSU endowments. There are only three coaches in Div 1 in the last three years that have a better record than James did in the last three years. RIGHT NOW, I'm hoping Terry can pull a golden finger out of his ***, throw it at the AD, and go undefeated the rest of the season. What happened in the last four days proves how classless PSU's leadership is.
