There are upsets then there’s losing to G4. Two yrs in a row
Ok…you do realize that his team lost one last year and made the NC game, right? And most likely will make the playoff again this year if they beat SC Saturday. You disqualify a guy because of 2 specific losses. You do realize every team tries to win right? If it was a guarantee, they wouldn’t play the game. I just think the bar you set is unrealistic.

Meyer lost to Va Tech in 2014 (they finished 7-6). Saban lost to Louisiana-Monroe 21-14 in 2007 (6-6 record). So, it happens. JoePa lost to Toledo. Hundreds of examples.

No - Freeman had many more ‘big’ wins than CJF. So what that he had a few upsets? He wins the bigger games more often. Isn’t that what everybody wants? Freeman beat Franklin head to head 10 months ago. He beat Georgia a few weeks prior to that and Indiana before that. I’m glad PSU beat Boise St and SMU but nobody can say that CJF’s wins were more impressive than Freeman’s. Look, Freeman isn’t perfect but he has a higher ceiling than Franklin in my opinion and his floor matches CJF’s. Name me the guy who won’t get upset ever and wins 75% of the ‘big’ games. Then tell me if that’s a realistic hire for PSU, if that coach even exists.

Ahhh, he's undefeated, Number 3 in the Country with a win over Oregon in their House which no other team has been able to do in ages, went to the CFP in his first year, and has a legitimate shot at a National Championship THIS year..........FOR INDIANA!!!!

He'll probably have a better shot at a National Championship THIS year at INDIANA than any tomato can we end up hiring next.
How about if we hire Urban Meyer? Tomato Can

An actively coaching 51 year old Urban Meyer 10 years ago? Sure. A 61 year old Urban Meyer now after being off the field for four years and his absolute disaster in Jacksonville after not coaching for the two years before that? No way.

I’d take Franklin WAAYYY over that.

Because the stated objective is to win titles. Terry Smith isn't the answer. Some want him because of ties to Paterno and Penn State. That's a mistake. Just like Rhule is or Golden would have been 12-14 years ago. They need to start fresh. That means no one on Franklin's staff. If the new coach wants to keep him as an assistant that would be great. He's the only one I'd consider
They didn't spend 50M to unload James to hire one of his assistants. Period.

Nothing is a sure thing. In all honesty, if our only “stated objective is to win titles” sometime in the next ten years, we just fired the one guy that gave us the best chance of doing that.

I got the impression from the BWI podcasts that Kraft was micromanaging the team. That was part of the problem along with the jealousy in the locker room over how much everyone was being paid. We are going to need someone that can work with Kraft and won’t blow a gasket, and somehow bring back unity to the locker room. Terry Smith and Matt Rhule are the only two guys I can think of that Kraft will give a longer leash to to do their job, and be able to reunite the team heading forward.

Matt Campbell doesn’t do anything for me. I know he is a good coach, but he seems to be at a school that is a tier below the powerhouses and it seems to fit him well. I can’t see recruits lining up to come to PSU for Matt Campbell. Maybe I’m wrong. Just my 2 cents.
I guess you have no clue how bad ISU was before he turned it into a legit Football school.

Two top 10 wins THIS YEAR alone, including on the road at Oregon.

Yes, but the things critics of Franklin largely focused on were ones of convenience ... because they didn't like him, and then he was successful. So then they scrambled for reasons to rationalize their disdain.

If, for example, he had beaten OSU and/or Michigan more regularly, but had lost more often against other opponents, they would have just moved on to "he can't bring us [fill in the blank]."

Don't understand all the Matt Campbell love. Maybe it's me, but that's one boring football team.
I don’t mind boring. I prefer boring the the excitement of QBs lined up at receiver and having our best RB share Carrie’s equally with our second best RB. Winning boring is better than exciting losses.
If this is about winning, you call Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, in that order.
Meyer is the best game day college football coach I’ve seen in the last 30 years or so.

Bill O'Brien. He saved our *** before. He can develop QBs, which we desperately need. I think he could do wonders with a full roster and a supportive administration. He is younger than Cignetti, who is 64.

Why on earth would you fire a 3-3 coach mid-season—especially one coming off a CFP semifinal run—for this? From an optics standpoint alone, it would be a complete disaster. Good Lord.

I m looking at Jeff Hafley. He was at BC w Kraft coached in college and the pros. BC is a .500 school. Right age a football junkie which is what we need. Cheerleader didn’t work. Who else has Kraft worked with?

Look at the lack of talent he has had to work with. Read somewhere that he has 0 five-star players and only 4 or 5 four-star players on the team. His teams is made up of players who were rated 3 stars or less, but he has developed them and worked them up.

If he has the talent PSU can attract ... could he do better? Who knows?
I have no doubt he can but I don't think he will come to PSU.

Im gonna agree with LB99. You don't fire a Franklin to get a Campbell. I agree Iowa State is tough, but give JF the Iowa State job and he is winning that conference every year.

Ya. I appreciate what BOB did while he was here to bail us out for those two years, but he left us for more money and the NFL. His BC team went from 7-6 last year to 1-5 this year, winless in the ACC at 0-4, with a 48-7 loss to PITT!! I thought he was a good Xs and 0s guy, but word was he hated to recruit. Maybe that’s why his BC roster hasn’t been upgraded from his first year to his second.

Thanks for helping us out Bill, but Franklin proved to be more dependable, loyal, and happy to be here. Plus he was EXTREMELY successful. Enjoy your time at BC.

It’s no big deal that he beat Franklin, because even Franklin beat Franklin. 🤪

Feel free to write in too; use whatever criteria you choose (most likely, personal preference, etc.). One vote.

Also, thanks for the memories Coach Franklin.

He played Miami to the wire, in Miami, with a QB making his first career start.

let’s see where they are at seasons end. I hate ND with a passion but he’s done a much better job than Franklin IMO

Name the next PSU HFC who lost to both Marshall and Northern Illinois while HC of the most storied football program in the US
Would that be the same HFC whose team beat PSU in the playoffs last year? Asking for a friend.

So the goal is an undefeated and untied record all time? Got it
Well Kraft said in the press release that Franklin was fired because the University holds its coaches to a higher standard which is Big Ten and National Championships so of course. After all WE deserve nothing less.

Joe Brady??? C'mon people.

He's nothing other than an offensive-minded geek.

He's never really been responsible for supervising other people, let alone a large staff including some of those "defensive people".

I truly don't know where some of you people come up with these insane ideas. 🤷‍♀️

PSU is in desperate need of a proven football coach familiar with all phases of the game. Joe Brady isn't that guy.
Couldn’t disagree more. Unless you are talking pipe dreams like Meyer and Saban, not interested in hearing Kraft saying he fired Franklin for not winning Championships and then hiring the various retreads suggested on here starting with Rhule.

First thing that has to happen, "Stab You in the Back" AD has to go. I hope the team takes him in the lockeroom, and reminds him they are not his kids. He is a smug pretentious son of a *****, that's a hired gun for that Band Of Turds that line their own pockets with the PSU endowments. There are only three coaches in Div 1 in the last three years that have a better record than James did in the last three years. RIGHT NOW, I'm hoping Terry can pull a golden finger out of his ***, throw it at the AD, and go undefeated the rest of the season. What happened in the last four days proves how classless PSU's leadership is.
Tell us what you really think. Don’t sugar coat it man.
