That’s an awful take because it overlooks how rough last season was. How Robinson basically shut it down instead of playing pg. Kerr did whatever. we were gifted a 3 seed bc the sec was so deep. Without that we are a 1st weekend out. Tennessee smashed us to prove we never had a prayer we just had good matchups. We had a nightmare sect too.
I’m gonna tell the 3 year guys. When it’s evident you don’t wait until year 3. Mark can’t land a recruit for next year and I wouldn’t count on any player returning. The guy can’t manage the program. He is what’s called in over his head. You don’t wait on a guy like that unless you have a replacement that you wait for. That isn’t the case here.
Agreed. Last season was not very fun at all. Only people wearing rose-colored glasses actually thought we had a real shot at winning anything meaningful. Sure, we had a few good wins, but a lot of embarrassing losses and blowouts. Kentucky SHOULD NOT be getting blowed out like we have been since Pope's arrival, thats just not acceptable and embarrassing. We have to hold everyone up to Big Blue's standards.
Also, to reflect back on paying this roster $22 million, shows just how off the talent evaluation and roster construction really was. Aberdeem is not very good and we threw bags at him. He was probably the 7th best player on that Florida team and we paid him like one of the studs in the portal. Pope put all of his chips in on Jaland Lowe, not even replacing the departure of Lewis. Lowe was a high shot-taker on a bad team, with a low shooting percentage. Sure Lowe has had a couple of bright spots, but really only has a couple of moves to score and missies open teammates more than not. We have Dioubate starting now, who didnt even start at Bama while only playing a little over 20 minutes a game. And dont get more wrong, I love Oweh, but I have never thought of him as "the man" on an SEC team. I see him more of a secondary option and not as a team leader who could will a team to victory, aside from his two buzzer-beaters against Oklahoma. Now I'm even starting to question if paying all that money at JQ was even the right choice. After all, he was coming off a significant ACL injury. It's seeming more and more that Pope just got a bunch of Average Joe's to come in and overpaying them all. Spending that amount of money on a roster like this is mind-blowing.
