I've been defending Pope a lot because he really hasn't had much time with his full roster this season. And things looked like they were trending in the right direction with the Indiana and St. Johns wins. But he had his whole team Saturday. He still didn't start or play his best players. He still isn't putting them in positions to win. They still aren't motivated or playing smart. So, I'm done defending him. I'm not saying he should be fired today, but I'm not really feeling inclined to argue with someone who does. I love the guy but he's just not displaying much evidence of being a consistently elite head basketball coach. At this point it's on him to prove us all wrong and shut up the haters.

Don’t be a Rat now.
Some people take this site way too seriously lol you know how many times he’s tried to get me banned. It’s ironic though that the Phil guy ran to him of all people when he was trying to call me “crazy”. Lol of all people to have that conversation with he picks the guy that’s been banned 1000 times and really is crazy lol 😂

Exactly. A third year will happen. UK doesn't move fast unless the coach is damaging the institution or fans stop attending. Neither is happening. You can wish for that to happen I guess, but I don’t know what kind of fan you would be to wish for that.
I've had it up to here with these fanhood-questioning remarks. It's disgusting. You don't know anyone on here. And you don't have a monopoly on the definition of "fan." It is a fact that BBN has zero influence or control. But anyone who is still proclaiming "wE iZ kEnTuCkY LoLZ" is delusional. That ship has sailed. We are now in the mini-NBA with unlimited free agency and zero salary cap. Our "tradition" and "legacy" and "prestige" are worth less than the price of a Tic Tac. Fans need to stop living in denial but they are still fans.

Can’t we just say how much this year sucks without repainting the last one? It’s kind of like how the LeBron fans have to come up with ridiculous MJ slander to win an argument. Year 1 was better than expected —- it wasn’t glorious, it wasn’t the goal, it was good. Year 2 stinks like holy hell
No, he's responding to all the pumpers who want to tout last season as some sort of proof that Pope is an overachiever and that is evidence that he will turn this around if he can just get 15 years to get his system in place.

Here is my progression on Pope.

1. Bad Hire.
2. Decided to give him a chance after his Press Conf.
3. Did better than expected last year.
4. Noticed consistent Coaching issues.
5. Noticed we lose the same exact way.
6. Notice at at least a handful of times our team "gave up"
7. Expected year two to see adjustments and improvements.
8. Was fooled like everyone else with the Purdue game.
9. Same consistent Coaching Issues, losing the exact same way to good comp.
10. Can't recruit talent. (Need 1 super star or 2-3 real good consistent dudes)
11. Changed my mind about Pope because of his consistent inconsistencies.
12. Pope should not get a 3rd year.

Do I want Pope to succeed? Yes. Will Pope succeed? Based off the consistent track record of bad things, unlikely.

Bruce Pearl is waiting. He wants it. Most of us want Pearl. Mitch has to retire. If he sticks around for another year, we have officially became Indiana in basketball.

People that will support the UK coach no matter what, these “sunshine pumpers”, will eventually thank those of us who were vocal about keeping the standards high at UK. When Pope is fired next year and we get someone better, I really wish those blind followers would be shown the Big Blue door out.

I know that a couple of the posters who don’t criticize the coach are just trying to do what they believe is being a good fan.

I can’t watch anymore of the coaching. I’m scared to death of Vandy coming up soon. The way we defended Bama, they might beat us in Nashville by 30+

They defended Tubby too. Its how some people follow sports. everything has to be positive and everyone associated with their team is defended. No matter what is actually happening on the court/field. Surely you have them in your personal life. After UK is terrible they always try to find a silver lining, always tell you how they are actually good.

That’s an awful take because it overlooks how rough last season was. How Robinson basically shut it down instead of playing pg. Kerr did whatever. we were gifted a 3 seed bc the sec was so deep. Without that we are a 1st weekend out. Tennessee smashed us to prove we never had a prayer we just had good matchups. We had a nightmare sect too.

I’m gonna tell the 3 year guys. When it’s evident you don’t wait until year 3. Mark can’t land a recruit for next year and I wouldn’t count on any player returning. The guy can’t manage the program. He is what’s called in over his head. You don’t wait on a guy like that unless you have a replacement that you wait for. That isn’t the case here.
Agreed. Last season was not very fun at all. Only people wearing rose-colored glasses actually thought we had a real shot at winning anything meaningful. Sure, we had a few good wins, but a lot of embarrassing losses and blowouts. Kentucky SHOULD NOT be getting blowed out like we have been since Pope's arrival, thats just not acceptable and embarrassing. We have to hold everyone up to Big Blue's standards.

Also, to reflect back on paying this roster $22 million, shows just how off the talent evaluation and roster construction really was. Aberdeem is not very good and we threw bags at him. He was probably the 7th best player on that Florida team and we paid him like one of the studs in the portal. Pope put all of his chips in on Jaland Lowe, not even replacing the departure of Lewis. Lowe was a high shot-taker on a bad team, with a low shooting percentage. Sure Lowe has had a couple of bright spots, but really only has a couple of moves to score and missies open teammates more than not. We have Dioubate starting now, who didnt even start at Bama while only playing a little over 20 minutes a game. And dont get more wrong, I love Oweh, but I have never thought of him as "the man" on an SEC team. I see him more of a secondary option and not as a team leader who could will a team to victory, aside from his two buzzer-beaters against Oklahoma. Now I'm even starting to question if paying all that money at JQ was even the right choice. After all, he was coming off a significant ACL injury. It's seeming more and more that Pope just got a bunch of Average Joe's to come in and overpaying them all. Spending that amount of money on a roster like this is mind-blowing.

Lol.

Lost me there.

It was pretty clear to anyone with a brain that, when healthy, we had FF potential. The amount of T25 wins confirms it.

I guess you enjoyed the really bad losses and getting blown out, too?

Sorry, but I didnt think the roster last year had Final Four potential.

Good grief it's sad to look at the state of Kentucky Basketball at this point. Pope was clearly not the correct hire from the beginning. He didnt even really accomplish anything at BYU, and now look at BYU since he left. It's funny how BYU can suddenly recruit now. Arkansas is now in a much better position than we are, with no hope in sight for us to return to the glory days. Pope is clearly out of his league. It says a lot when fans don't even care to tune in to watch the games. Of course it's not all on Pope, as Barnhart is the one that panicked on the hire and completely fumbled the assignment. There were so many other options we could have pursued, but he went the homer route. What now? Where do we go from here? I think it starts with cleaning house, from the top down.

you should have deleted this thread by now. Its not aging well

He has lately. You watching games? You don't come back from deficits that large without doing some things right. It's just not the way you want.
Has he? LSU and MSU are garbage. UT I’ll give him. He needs to win a lot more games against ranked teams, win something: the conference or conference tourney, final four or championship

Nah I’m glad we won. But I’m ready to be Kentucky again. Unlike some of yall on here. We shouldn’t be glad that we won a game that we expected to lose. That’s not Kentucky basketball
That’s what I’m saying. I want to see Pope succeed. That means wining the conference, winning conference tournaments, making the final four, and winning titles. That’s not high expectations, these are Kentucky expectations.

Why would a UK fan not be a Pope pumper? Y’all are some of the weirdest fans who have ever existed. I thought yall just lied on your own team, it’s clear that a lot of you actively cheer against your own team too.

Dude you might be the worst poster on the history of this board. If you could actually read, I was stating the things that would have to happen for Pope to not get a third year. But you can’t get your head out of your *** long enough to have any reading comprehension.

Its only the middle of his second year. He beat plenty of top 10 teams his first year.

Why would you not be glad to win a game you were expected to lose especially a top 25 team on their court. Sorry that was an incredibly stupid post.
