Early Colleges are still restricted by county lines....some counties may have a transfer policy that allows any student in the county to apply to go any school in the county, but still everyone would be under the jurisdiction of that LEA...exceptions or caveats would be when a student lives outside the county/LEA but has a parent that works there but lives outside the district lines, or could otherwise qualify for residency, depending on how strict or loose an LEA is with its regulations (rental properties inside the district lines maybe...or switching parental custody to someone in a different place....or physically moving)....there are many ways it happens within the rules....I do not know for sure but I can't help but wonder if Tri-County Early College is treated differently, not only because it does have sports, but because they seem to be a compilation of three LEAs, which does seem more like most of the charter schools....I'm assuming that students must live (or have some type of residency established) in one of the three counties represented there?

Yeah for as I understand it you do have to live in one of the three counties to go the Tri-county just like Maryland Early College you have to live in Avery , Mitchell or Yancey to go there.

As far NCHSAA transfer policy:
"5. TRANSFER POLICY: After initial entry into the ninth grade, and absent a bona fide move as provided in the Residence section in this Handbook: (a) a student transferring from one member school to another member school within the same LEA must sit out 365 days for athletic participation. The LEA may create criteria for immediate athletic eligibility for transfers within the LEA. (b) A student transferring from one member school in one LEA to another member school in a different LEA must sit out 365 days for athletic participation. Exceptions for immediate athletic eligibility for transfers from one LEA to a different LEA will be heard by a special NCHSAA transfer committee. NOTE: If a member school is not part of a defined LEA (e.g., charter school, non-boarding parochial school, etc.), then the member school itself will be considered its own LEA for purposes of this policy (i.e., exceptions involving these member schools will fall under subsection (b) above)."

If Shelby goes small it would relieve that 2AA west bracket. It's seems to be getting tougher not to come out of that champions league bracket a little bruised.

ALOT of teams in small 2A on notice now :D
I think any school with over 800 students should be 2AA. Just my opinion.

I see your thinking on this and although I don’t really disagree...

But <800 only applied to 48 2A schools last year. There were 114 2A schools last year.

I think last year’s line was somewhere around the 836 student range.

The smallest schools have a bit of a disadvantage in theory... but you have to draw the line at the mid-point.

The only sensible option. Subdivided playoffs have a lot of repeat teams in the title games. Did not see that in the pre subdivided era nearly as much. Subdividing has built dynasties.

As far as some people saying that some schools should be in another classification in a four year alignment you'll always have schools ether go up or down in enrollment and under a realignment would go up or down in classification. Not picking on any schools just examples.
One issue is that NCHSAA used for the 2017-2021 realignment, they used 2015 adm instead of the lastest 2016 which they had would had made some like schools like Granville Central 646/ 2015 but 721/ 2016 2A instead of 1A.
Some 2A folks I've noticed mention Hibriten serval times but even in 2016 they were 1014 last year 1034 the largest 2A in the realignment was 1024 , last year North Davidson was 1144, 1002 in 2015. Wallace-Rose won the 2015 1AA championship at 673, 2016 1AA at 674 & 2017 2A at 674, but started the 2013-2017 realignment at 590.
So it is what it is, at least in the next realignment NCHSAA said they will be using the lastest adm numbers the 2020 for the 2021-2025 realignment which is better but there is always going to be this issue of up & down adm's and there's nothing the schools involved can do about it, just ask 3A Tuscola 1037/2015, 974/2018.

Great post. I’m pretty excited that I won’t have to hear about 3A Ledford and North Davidson anymore... Both will be comfortably below 1000 this time around. Ledford being a little smaller than North for now.

and I know that numbers increase the likelihood of having a successful football team... but it certainly doesn’t ensure it. Ask Atkins, North Forsyth, South Rowan, Central Davidson, McMichael... all struggle, yet all are almost at 950 or better.

There should be a cutoff point, but i don't know where it should be. I know it is hard for a school with a adm of 630 to 650 to compete with a school with 800 kids at the same level. I guess the state does the best they can,but there should be a better way. they should add a 5A classification which might even things out better between the schools like South
carolina. I don't know.

Randleman is at 821 I’m hearing
This is not a smart alec remark like I usually have for almost everything involving orange/blue team but...

Where are the students going? Two years ago they were at 903, last year 834? Two years ago ER 721 last year 648?

Charters eating that many students?

Hahaha....the nervousness is setting in...hilarious..."what can we do to make sure Shelby goes big 2A?"

How’s that nervousness? I want you guys in small 2a. I’m just asking if you guys have more to add to the number, because I don’t know.
