Portal shenanigans aside, say Lebby hires a proven & competent OC, makes changes on staff with the OL, DL, and strength & conditioning coaches. Would that give us more confidence for next year?

Confidence is such a fickle thing. About the only thing I am confident about when it comes to Mississippi State is that we will stick with what we have for at least one year longer than we should have. e.g., Ray, Lemonhead.

To answer your question, no, it would not give me more confidence. Lebby, I assume, would be making the hires. Need I say more?

This sums it up. We make two lazy hires in a row. No accountability on this coaching staff, from Lebby to Hutzler to Loadholt to DL coach on down. Poor recruiting. Poor portal recruiting. Poor NIL money management. Etc etc.
I have a lot of confidence for Saturdays next fall that I'm going to get a lot of house projects done.
We will not make a good football head coach hire as long as Keenum is President. He ought to be calling both Selmon and Lebby into his office today and giving both the *** chewing of their lives for being such embarrassments. But he won't. He will go through diplomatic channels and in January he will have an "end of the year assessment". And there will be a lot of laughter and back slapping and nothing will change. Keenum is a bureaucrat, not a leader.
For that to all happen, we’d need to hire a successful lower tier head coach who can bring his staff and a % of his current players with him.

I don’t even see him winning 4. We have 9 conference games (which probably results in at least 8 losses) and we have to go to MinneSomalia where PJ Fleck will certainly out coach his dubmass.
My prediction. A couple changes in assistants. Completely flipping the oline again. Dline nothing significant because our dline recruiting is the worst in power 4. We lose 3-4 starters to the portal. We look like we’ve turned the corner in OOC schedule. Get ***** slapped again in conference. Fire Lebby. “In the know” posters claim you won’t believe the coaches that contacted us. We have A-F list of who we want. Hire comes out of left field. It’s either some washed up old timer, or an up and comer assistant with no experience.
I’ve been a season ticket holder and going to games for 27 consecutive years. I’ve done it for the overwhelming majority of falls in my life.

It's ashame we have good wide receivers and our QB's don't have time to throw to them . We have got to recruit better linemen and better defense all around . Missouri freshman QB beat our asses . Lebby trying to run our QB up the middle didn't help at all either . . I'm off the bandwagon till he does 100% better for next year . It's ok if he just Leafs .
Not even sure where to begin with this. We aren’t landing a “proven and competent” OC to essentially come in and be a yes-man to run someone else’s system. That said, we really don’t even need that. It can still be Lebby’s offense, just have a protege that he can hand the reigns to that can be a in the press box and actually see what the 17 is going on with the formations and have the authority to adjust accordingly with the playcalling.
But that would change nothing for me, because I’d still have no confidence in Lebby not stepping in to overrule the OC in critical situations. So no, doesn’t help.

How can you tell with the Division 2 OL? Our QBs don't have time to execute the plays. Couple that with the Division 2 DL that allows the opposition time to run anything they want.
Maybe going for it on fourth down on his own 18 , down 11 points with 13 minutes left in the game is a speacial kind of stupid.

Saying things like "Division 2" lines when we don't even have the worst lines in the P4, would be among the best in the G5, and would easily be the FCS national champion, much less the level below that, really kills any point you're trying to make. I get exaggerating a bit for effect, but this takes it so far that most of us can't even focus on the rest of your post.
And let me just say again…. When you hire a line coach in December that has to come in and completely revamp the O line via leftovers from the Spring portal, it should be a massive red flag. Both in terms of the O line itself and the fact that your head coach allowed it to reach that point.
I’ll also point out that we had several program insiders on here promising us that the O line would be much improved. lol

We brought in Offensive Lineman TWICE since last season and look what we got. He brought them in for Spring, dumped those after Spring and brought more in for Fall and that is what we're watching flail around on the ground today like fish out of water
