Potential Sha Replacements?

All kidding aside, why would this be a topic at this point? Sha has a way to go one way or another. From a defensive standpoint he just has to make some slight adjustments. SHU has a Tourney worthy Defense.

So, obviously they need some shooters with much higher career shooting percentages. They need a backup PG. Clarke to keep improving his three-point shot. I would not discount looking at high school talent. They might provide "some" economic relief to the topline. Someone that can add to the equation right away. They do have Payday coming.

For me Sha really needs to tone it down with the screaming. Looks like 85 percent yelling and 15 percent calm support. He needs to balance it out. Your players are a reflection of you to some degree. Would be nice to see him in a suit once in a while. (Personal choice). It lends itself to a more businesslike approach. Either way sweatsuit or business suit he has to be more in control of the temper. My opinion for what it is worth. That's on the court and also accept the media as part of the job. Flexible Refinement.

Yayyy 5th place while the worst Creighton team in years is again better than us (pathetically like always). Why should we be happy. We have been TERRIBLE for talent we have since BE play.
You're emotional, I get it. But you are not reacting to the totality of what I said. The reality is this is the first year Sha has even had resources on par with average BE programs. He WILL get at least a few more seasons to show what he can do. That's just a reality, and when you take the entire situation into account, as mentioned, that is the correct thing.

But there needs to be significant offensive and player recruiting style improvements. Hopefully with more resources he can get players with offensive capability, not a team full of Femi Odukales

We were on a heater yesterday. We shot 5-9 (55.6%) from 3PT. Our best shooter (Simpkins) didn’t even attempt one. Why not? Because Sha doesn’t value this century’s version of basketball. Willard said it best when he said he’ll trade Budd’s 2s for his team’s 3s. Meanwhile Creighton shot 13-30 (43.3%).

We scored 68 points last night on arguably our best shooting performance of the season. And we pushed the ball. This is mind-boggling coaching strategy in 2026.

It's not "either/or". Most of us including Kevin himself realized he had reached his ceiling here and it was time to part ways. We can appreciate all the good things he did to rehabilitate this program to some level of respectability, but he had his shortcomings and it was time for him to move on.

The fact that Sha has been somewhere between abysmal and below average does not mean we need to set the Willard years as our barometer for success. He too was at best, somewhere between average and above average. That should not be anyone's goal. If it is, then that itself is the problem.

Absolutely- Sha calls the 3 fool's gold. Not at all. Adapt or retire. We need to attempt around 15-17 3s a game to be competitive. That would be playing within his framework but also being sensible.

I sure hope Budd keeps shooting 3s and why not Fischer if he is open?

It has been puzzling with Clarke. His mid-range has solid form. His free throws don't look terrible, a slight confidence issue at time. His three-point shot looks as good as anyone except maybe Simpkins. He has great dribbling speed so he should be able to beat his defender to a spot. Plus, they slack off on him a tad more than others. So, he must take some. The Hall had 34 points for the first half. He had 9 points on his 3 made threes. He missed his last one and never went back to it. It can only make The Hall a more dynamic team the rest of the way. In addition, no halftime deficit for a change.

We currently average 15.7 3 pt FGA on the season. If Budd would have been doing what he did yesterday throughout the year, we would be closer to 18-19 per game.

Up until yesterday he was petrified to take an open 3.

I had to cajole Claude AI into giving me suggestions--he wanted to give Sha more time to turn things around--but here's what he came up with:

I'll search for potential coaching candidates who could fit Seton Hall's profile.Based on my search, here are five specific names that would likely be serious candidates if Seton Hall were to make a coaching change:

1. Jerrod Calhoun (Utah State) - Has continued Utah State's consistent success, leading the program to the NCAA tournament and is considered one of the top mid-major coaches ready for a high-major opportunity. Has experience turning around programs and would fit the Big East profile.

2. Drew Valentine (Loyola Chicago) - Just 33 years old, has already won conference titles in both the Missouri Valley and Atlantic 10. Young, energetic, and has shown he can win in a conference similar to the Big East. His age and upward trajectory make him an attractive candidate.

3. Takayo Siddle (UNC Wilmington) - Fresh off earning his first bid to the NCAA Tournament after five years of success in the CAA. Has been pursued by other programs already and fits the profile of a younger, proven winner who could recruit the Northeast.

4. Brian Wardle (Bradley) - Has won 23-plus games in three straight seasons at Bradley, including 28 in 2024-25. At 45, he has significant head coaching experience and a track record of consistent winning. More established than some other candidates.

5. Tony Skinn (George Mason) - Led Mason to 27 wins and an A-10 title game appearance, reestablishing the program's elite defensive culture. Has the George Mason Final Four pedigree and understands East Coast basketball recruiting well.

These coaches all represent different paths - some younger with high upside (Valentine, Siddle), some more experienced (Wardle), and some with strong regional connections (Skinn, Calhoun). All have proven they can win at the mid-major level and seem ready for the next step.

What a horrible thread. Sha isn't going anywhere yet.

From last year's debacle to at least a decent team this year. It's not what anyone signed up for after 4 years, I know I didn't, but he's not on the hot seat yet. He would be, in my opinion, if Seton Hall lost the rest of their games but that's not likely, probably end up an average Big East team this year in a down Big East.

I agree this is not a real world situation. So, no reason to put time into it.

I would say that there are some aspects of the operation that may be counter productive. Of course if Sha had a pipeline of talent like a Kansas, Purdue or UConn he would probably be hanging banners. Many coaches out there could also do the same. So, our only hope is to have Seton Hall achieve its highest level taking into account many obstacles. What can our expectations be and also what should they be??

We can only hope Holloway does us all a favor and leaves for another job. But that would require some other school to be foolish enough to hire him. That would be the best outcome because we all know small time Seton Hall isn't going to do anything.
Or you could do us all favor and leave for another forum and let SHA work to build this team.

Any AD worth his salt would have a list of candidates ready. (Does that include Felt…?) I don’t see any harm in discussing the topic.

He should have a list but doubtful, this is Seton Hall we're talking about.

Posting this though on the free board like this certainly implies you want him gone, or are expecting him to leave on his own, or you are @shu09.

Speaking of three-letter abbreviations how about we give MTE a shot—got a raw deal at FDU!
A shot at what?

Not a fan of our coach, but laughed when I saw the title of this thread: knew it was coming. After the Xavier and Marquette wins, some were worried he would be scooped up by a bigger fish...... maybe Syracuse.

Our problems aren't because of Sha. Coach K wouldn't be able to have a successful program with the amount of NIL that we could afford.

But will they ever be an above average big east team in an up big east?

All of Sha's buddies are coming out to defend him. They know he's a failure but can't bring themselves to admit it. After missing the NCAAT again this year, they'll all be clamoring to give him another year or two. Same old script.

Sad to see SPK, who I used to think had high standards (guess I was mistaken), giving him a pass because he's got a better team (with all new guys, so one has nothing to do with the other) after last year's dumpster fire in Year 3 (not year 1, when it would be excusable). The only reason this team is winning a few games in the Big East is because the Big East is trash this season. In a normal Big East, this Seton Hall team would be 3-10 right now.

Watching that game last night made me feel juts like I felt Christmas shopping at Livingston Mall just a few months ago.
Nostalgic & Sad.

Would make a nice plot of land for Seton Hall's own basketball gym! Instead of not selling out a must-win game against DePaul at 8:00pm on a Wednesday in Newark, they can do the same in Livingston.
