I watch his highlights. I've watched him live probably 8 or 9 times over the last two years. I'm not arguing he's a great QB because being player of the year speaks for itself.

I was just arguing the silly statement that he could start for any school in the country. I hope you don't believe that either.

Also, this offense is absolutely tailored to his skill set. I don't mean that in a bad way. You can look at Mance's offenses from Timmy Brown to River Michaels and It's basically been the same until last year when they kinda pulled the QB runs and substituted them for more screens and slants.

I put McCracken, Asbury, and Elswick in the pocket passer roll. Not too many runs, more passing. I put Brown, Wells, Johnson, and River in the running spread system.

Thats exactly the point I was trying to make is the potential and I think Asbury has alot. It's all good brother all this does is gets us all ready for Sat. I think everyone makes good points and none of us can say another is wrong unless we base it off facts.

I was trying to be sarcastic. In today's age, every kid in high school has the ability to been pretty easily (Hudl, YouTube, personal highlight film etc). The player and high school coach must work together to be seen and garner the attention of the college coaches. I think it's great that your nephew outplayed 2 very good QB's, but I believe your nephew is an outlier. The majority of the kids that are ranked that high is because of their talent and potential. I just can't believe that these kids are ranked up their because of the team they play on (in 99% of the cases). I have seen Asbury on film, and if you think he is in the same league as Tate Martell, someone needs to examine your head.

Thank you to the best football minded guy ever to post on VaPreps. My nephew may be an outlier but one thing he does have is an NFL and CFL invite so I'll take it. Damn I feel sorry for your household if there's a disagreement. Being sarcastic. Talk about head examines this coming from a guy who's period comes on when the world don't see things through their eyes so they try to be an ******* to help with their self esteem. I'm done. All who's going to Appomattox Sat hope to see you there.

So.....I believe my QB in Pop Warner football is better than Tom Brady. Don't dare say anything against it, because it's my opinion and I can have it. Give me a break. LOL

McCracken had the arm to be a pocket passer but he sure didn't care a bit to run or run over you. I think he would've ran a lot more but there just wasn't a need for it with Jennings in the backfield.

Asbury is a pure pocket passer. He probably ran the ball more in the 2 games this year against Graham than he has in the 20'some games he has played.

Elswick wasn't as talented as the other two you mentioned but he was really tough and a great competitor. I'd say that was Mance's best coaching job that year starting after they lost to Powell Valley.

I do know this , if he keeps on running up the middle on that 3rd down play and taking hits like he does he want last long in the appo game ! And they are in that 3rd down situation a lot I saw that at graham !

I hate that designed run with JLA. Hes not a running QB. But its hard to imagine anyone that hits harder than Cousin and Vineyard from Graham. The first game with Graham is when they started that designed run with him and on one of those plays he took a monster shot to the head from Cousin or Vineyard while 2 more were tackling from the back that almost bent him backwards. You could hear the pop anywhere in the stadium. Thought for sure he was going to be laying motionless on the field and his season done. But he jumped right back up and continued to lead his team from behind. Kid is tough but i hate seeing that play.

I see no reason to discuss what Appomattox may or may not do to him. Richlands will have to develop a running game to survive this weekend. I'm hoping the success they discovered with Dylan Elswick in the backfield will carry over on Saturday. If not, it's almost a certainty that SD will be the ones facing Appo the following week.

Howie is the most athletic. When the ball is in his hands, good things happen. He has incredible speed for his size.
I think you may be understating Howie's speed. He's fast for any size. In the game against Appo last year, he ran down runners in the open field twice, closing on them from a distance of about five yards directly behind each time.

Stormwatcher, you not playing about that. He is OFFICIAL. That was our #1 RB Phillip Fleshman and QB Matt Page he ran down. Both are solid with their speed. Neither are running 4.4s but DANG if he didnt run both down. He saved 2 TDs right there. Any ordinary night, that was 2 TDs. I will say this and I dont mean to be disrespectful. Why does he just sit and watch so much on Defense. He waited for the runner to get past him before going for the tackle. I seen him do that quite a few times in that game. Like a deer in headlights and then reacting later.

I honestly have no answer for that question. He's been one of the hardest hitters on the Richlands defense this season. If he was avoiding contact last year, I didn't notice or have forgotten. He's definitely not been avoiding it this year.

Oh Ok, lol, he must have noticed himself doing it or coaches called him out on it. Its good he has improved. If you say he is one of the hardest hitters, he must have improved tremendously. It might have been the Appo game only and just playing too cautious.

He also ran down B.J. Gough from behind about 10-15 yards against Buckingham too that saved a TD before halftime.

Stop with the "poor us" game. Of course they should suit up. Should Florida not suit up for the SEC Championship because they are 20+ point underdogs to Bama? Part of being the underdog is hearing the pre game chatter, how the favorite is going to do this and that. That's part of it. Whether Goochland wants to believe it or not, they are the underdog, now how do you take that title? Say who cares and play or do you buy in to the hype and roll over and get drug around the field? They will show that on Saturday.
Dang it, I DVR my college games so I can watch them during the week and I try my darndest to ignore any site that has info on college game outcomes...I just watched the Iron Bowl last night, however I don't know if Florida played Saturday or the outcome if they did. Please don't talk about college games on the HS board!!!!:D:mad:

Thanks!!!:)

It was during the Bluefield game last year that I really noticed his speed. He caught a pass and exploded away from the defensive backs of a team known for their speed. I'm attaching a link to his highlights from that game. The play I'm talking about is at about 58 seconds ...

Stating that Bama is a huge favorite over Florida gives no indication of their play against Auburn. Don't get your panties in a bunch bud. :D:D

I was talking about Florida's game (if they had an SEC game), but it's all good. I DVR all SEC games and anyone in the top 10.

That Ohio State/Michigan game was AWESOME!!

Seems like the only people on here that are dead set on Goochland getting crushed are the ones that haven't seen them play, I can assure you Goochland is no chump. Aside from the Goochland fans, it's interesting though that the neutral observers that have seen Goochland in person think this game will come down to the final second.

Most definitely will be a dog fight. Another observation would be nobody that supports Goochland has dogged Appo that can't be said for the Appo supporters who seem way over confident. I have had nothing bad to say about them actually I respect what they have done. The only negative thing I have said is that I didn't think Union was a good preparation game for their next battle because I didn't think in my opinion Union was very strong. I just think this year there may be a new Dog in town. We shall see! I could be wrong. Either way I support the Dogs win or lose!

I believe Appo will win by more than 10.
I hope Richlands wins ... but nothing would truly surprise me, except if the margin was 3 touchdowns or more.

If you knew anything about Union, you would know they are a very strong team. That's a team that has lost 3 games in 2 years, the semifinal loss to Clarke last year in the semis, the 1 point loss to Richlands in week 2 this year, and the Appomattox loss. Those are not teams that are easy to beat. Union has the 6th best (junior) player in the state. I know it looked like Union wasn't very good, but they were inside the Appo red zone 3 times and came away with nothing. A break here or there, and that score looks a lot different.

No argument from me I am simply just saying what I saw. I mainly follow the East since Goochland is in the East. (I do not claim the East is strong ) Maybe Union just had a bad day maybe Appo is better than I think. I do agree that the final four teams left are quality programs that anyone could win on any day. I mean no disrespect to Union or anyone but if they were considered a very strong team then I question the strength of the West. Who know's Saturday night I could be on here eating Crow and praising Appo but let's just buckle up and get ready for Saturday. Or who knows I could be on here Saturday night being humble and excited that Goochland won and gets to play for the title. I am pretty sure if Appo wins Goochland fans especially me will get blasted and that's ok. Good luck to everyone who's left you are all fine programs that have gotten where you are because of it.
How many people who are commenting on the Goochland/Appo game have actually seen Goochland play? BCKnights I know has and gives a very good opinion. I just wonder what facts everyone has to say Goochland can't compete with Appo without ever seeing them?

I don’t get into the predictions thing unless it’s College or NFL. I dont feel quite right predicting my hometown high school football team. I did the Pick Em on here for 2 weeks for the first time this year and felt convicted that Im putting the cart before the horse. Sooo…I just don’t do it.

Another reason is I just don’t know enough about Goochland and I don’t know enough about SD to make a proper assessment. Many were saying Appomattox was overrated until we beat Amherst and we still was like #5 on behind Union, Glenvar, Richlands on many social media websites. So I don’t sleep on nobody after 1st and 2nd rounds. Look at what happened to Union vs. Clarke last year? EVERYONE was picking Union and they got their butts kicked because they wasn’t prepared for the Single Wing O. Same thing with Richlands vs Appo. Most was picking Richlands. I just feel some type of way about picking my team before a game so I leave that alone. Even if we wasn’t in it, I probably wouldn’t pick because I just don’t know the teams.

So Coach Ricky and BCknights have a point, because popular opinion had Union and Richlands in Salem last year. Neither made it….

I have to say you have been comical this week. Appomattox started talking when you called Union a JV team. You are right kickoff is getting close and it will be decided soon. Imagine an Appo fan feeling confident, when you play a schedule like we have for the last 2 years it's not hard to believe anything is possible. But like I have already said earlier, anyone at this point in the season can be beat and I will be first to tip my hat to someone that beats Appomattox. It will take your best effort and that will fun to watch either way.

I actually erased the comment about being like a JV out of respect for Union. I shouldn't have said that. I agree anyone can win.

Union didn't play the best, had some poor play calling, and some uncharacteristic miscues that could have definitely made the score closer, so they did have a bad day, but I think you are underestimating Appo too.

I haven't seen Goochland whatsoever, so you guys could come in and beat Appo 30-0 or they could beat you 30-0. I have no clue.

If Goochland does come in and beat Appo that will speak more to what the Dogs are versus what Appo isn't because the Raiders were everything they were advertised to be. Just my two cents...

Trust me, as a Union supporter, I understand that aspect. Lol. Can't tell you how many times over the 6 years of the school's existence that we were told we weren't the best team on the field AFTER we won the game let alone the ones we lost.

Some of those we had more yards, more sacks, more tackles for losses and were still told we "just weren't that good." Beat a team one year by more than 30 points and their radio announcers were talking about how overrated we were. SMH.

I'm sure that Goochland will be prepared, and regardless of who wins, I hope it's an entertaining game and everyone comes out healthy. I'll also be on here to congratulate the winner.

Historically we are the smaller team somehow our speed gets overlooked but that's good because then your not prepared for it. We are always the underdog according to people who actually know nothing about Goochland or they have never seen them play. Its amazing to me how many people post about Goochland but have never seen them play. At least I took the time to come out and watch Appo play so I could see what the hype was all about. Appo is a great team are they unbeatable well we will see. Good luck to Union next year and to all these teams. At the end of the day all of us posting are just washed up old players that are great Monday morning QB's! LOL I to will congratulate the winners of these games and be respectful of the outcomes win or lose. Like my son always said talk with your pads play with your heart.
Now I will really start some stuff go BULLDOGS and HOKIES!!!
