He was operated on today. Serious toe injury. Prognosis tbd

Well damn...hope this doesn't affect him starting game 1.***

Seriously though...did I miss this injury or is this something that was known about? Any details on what it is or if it could have a long term effect? Not good either way with our QB situation.

Sprain of the ligaments around the main joint in the toe.

It's called turf toe because it typically happens to start and stop type of athletes like football and baseball players. It can happen to any athlete, but the repeated pushing off and jamming of the toes into the turf is what makes it so common in football and baseball. It's one of those things that comes in different flavors. What's really bad for some can be extremely painful for others. But if you don't correct it, it can end your season in a heartbeat. I'm hoping that him taking care of it now will give him time to just stay off it for a little while and let it heal properly.

The QB we boosted from Southern just became more valuable. Cord's decision will have even greater impact if this news is true. Just damn.

The fact that he had surgery doesn't really tell me much.

Now I'm no doctor or professional, but I do know some about turf toe. Surgery is pretty common with this type of injury, but again, different strokes for different folks. Typically guys mid season try and play through it and miss here and there and never get a good rhythm. They end up worse off for it. Him taking care of it now will hopefully give him plenty of time to be ready for the season.

Without knowing the specifics of his injury, if he has been wearing a boot for a little while, I would guess he had this for a little while, it didn't get better, and the staff said go ahead and get it taken care of before the season starts. Good preventative measure for the long term in my opinion.

Unless they had to literally remove his toe...

...due to the severity of the injury, he should be completely healed by August 2-a-days. Remember this is a 20 yr old athlete we are talking about. His ability to rapidly heal is about 20 times that of the overweight 45 year olds who post here.

I heard he had a chronic problem that he couldn't rest last year because he was the only backup. However, I heard the docs are not pleased because he was lifting weights (squatting) and now it is a more serious problem - acute now along with chronic.

My Dad had a wreck two weeks back and broke his knee, The Doctor in Columbus that repaired my Dad's knee did Prescott's surgery. It came up in conversation last night when he came in to check on my Dad in the recovery room. He said that Prescott's surgery went very well, and he should be 100% for next season. THe Doctor is awesome could not have asked for a better person to fix my Dad's Knee.

Might not want to put the guy's name up there. Even though it's likely nobody would care, I'm guessing he still wasn't technically supposed to be able to share that information.

Dak is optimistic and surgery went great and the prognosis is good. He will heal and rehab properly. It was healthy tissue and doctors are confident in his recovery.

yep, HIPAA violation lol.

Can one verbally waive HIPAA or would Dak have had to sign a release?

Personally, I'd want documentation that HIPAA had been waived, but it seems pretty natural for someone to ask a patient like Dak, "Is it okay if I tell MSU fans that your surgery went well and that you'll be 100% in the fall" and for Dak to say, "sure."

It wouldn't even surprise me if someone who did a lot of sports related surgery has a standard form, but I don't work with HIPAA at all.

I have no idea. Maybe HIPPA doesn't even apply for athletes for sports-related injuries. My opinion is that HIPPA goes way overboard, but perhaps there are reasons that I don't know of.

uhh no. That **** don't happen. Doctors normally don't give a **** about letting the fans know unless they are Andrews or similar and the team wants him to speak to the press.

HIPAA only applies to individuals and organizations in positions of trust as it relates to protected health information (PHI), namely physicians, hospitals, insurance companies, and others with access to PHI. If Dak tells a fellow student about his surgery and that students tells the world, it's not a HIPAA violation. If his surgeon gives information without Dak's written consent, it's a violation.

That's really a great and worthy post for me to have in and it really help me to get the right deals and all.
It really make me clear about this that how we are face the turf toe issues how we are have to compete with it.
