Pretty amazing stat from our regional

We played four games, and the only game where our starting pitcher lasted four full innings was the opener, when Graveman went 6.1. It's amazing that we've been as successful as we've been without having any real quality starting pitchers who can pitch even halfway through a game.

I'm not sure I wouldn't bump Fitts and Cox up the pecking order.

No worse that what we have seen so far out of the others.

If we had a great Friday guy and a really good Saturday guy, we just might contend for the national championship this year.

Instead we play the bizarre game of let's pray we get 4 or 5 out of our starter. I have never been so ecstatic to get 6 innings from a pitcher as I was Kendall on Friday.

Don't get me wrong I'm tickled to death with a Super.

Just frustrated with what I think could be with two sho' nuff SEC frontline starters.

I don't even think we need two. If we had one ace that we could count on I think we would be in serious contention for a championship this year. Woodruff might turn out to be our what if, or we are miss. state of this year.

This staff would have been awesome under the old 6-team regional and CWS format

We played four games, and the only game where our starting pitcher lasted four full innings was the opener, when Graveman went 6.1. It's amazing that we've been as successful as we've been without having any real quality starting pitchers who can pitch even halfway through a game.

Deep pitching staffs with a lot of good relievers did well under the old formats. A team with two all-american pitchers but without several quality relievers would not fare as well then.

This is what I've been thinking pretty much all the SEC season.

Graveman's pretty decent, but in all honestly, he's probably a solid 3rd starter in the SEC. If we had one or two of Lindgren, Woodruff, or E. Mitchell healthy/playing well, we'd be a national seed and a legit national title contender. That just makes me sick to think about. Literally every other part of your team is elite and good enough to go all the way.

All in all though, I think we've had a great year considering what we've gotten out of our starters, and I'm pleased with our results this season.

Other than Graveman, our starting pitcher is just the first middle reliever in the game. And as messageboardsuperhero points out, Graveman should have been our #3 starter. Losing Woodruff and E. Mitchell flaking out was huge for our team this year. Very few teams could host and win a regional playing basically the entire season without their top 2 starting pitchers. Outstanding job by Cohen and the team.

Anybody

that has followed our team (or any of our teams since Cogen has arrived) really shouldn't be amazed by this.

Graveman-Fitts-Bracewell should be the UVA rotation.

Fitts was cruising until the Frazier blunders.

I agree with your starter choices, BUT

The REAL rotation question will be when do we get to pitch Ross, Girodo, and Holder?

Think I might go Fitts-Graveman-Bracewell. I like Graveman for game 2 of a 3-game series because he's the most likely to go deep into the ballgame and split our 2 heavy relief pitching days up.

I can live with that as well.

Those three need to be the starters at this point. Move Pollo back to mid-relief and have him as a #4 if we make it to the CWS.

When one of our lefties throws it fat over the plate...

without much movement (Pollo) and the other can't find the plate most of the time (Lindgren), then I think the matchup argument loses some of its validity.

I saw a stat where Virginia is 33-0 against righties and 17-10 against lefties. I think I see Pollo starting Friday with R Mitchell coming in the game after 40 pitches.

How many of those lefties were Friday night aces? Because our lefties are far from that quality.

I don't know. Does it really matter? Not a single right handed Ace has beaten them this year. I would avoid starting a righthander.

I'm knocking UVA out with the unexpected. I'm starting Ross Mitchell game one and he's going 8 innings with Holder getting the save and then I'm starting Chad Girordo game 2 and he's going to take the series for MSU. We won't even need game 3 if Cohen starts those 2 and let's them go deep.
