Wonder what Templeton would be thinking if he was listening in?

"What the hell is he talking about?"

Byrne stated the basketball practice facility will be bidded out later this summer, and will take about 1 year to build.

It really is so refreshing to hear an AD talk about how we need to strive to improve every facility.

Said that he was very impressed with FSU's facitilies and how they all matched. Look for at least a facelift on many of our facilities.

June, with bids signed soon after. 2 large donations secured, and it should be up & running next summer.

Also thought Jim's comments on DNF were pretty telling....he said at one time, this was probably the finest college baseball facility in the SEC & nation, and now it was probably the 4th worst in the SEC.

that we have an AD that realizes that, because at least he knows it's an issue, and once things like the basketball IPF are taken care of, and rightfully so, then MSU can get around to renovating Dudy-Noble.

We've been living in 1990 for too many years as far as Dudy-Noble is concerned.

NBA or college. I think they've had it for three or four years and it's still top of the line.

Replace the bleechers with chairback expansion? Maybe more skyboxes?

There's a balance between upgrading the place and keeping its character.

I would replace the bleachers with a grandstand to the foul poles, with sky boxes. I would completely renovate the press box and bathrooms in the grandstand. I would tear down the bathroom in LF and built a new one towards CF. A brick concourse with a bad *** baseball office building would look good... I think.

Personally, I'd tear down the green metal structures and add trees wherever necessary. Make the scoreboard real brick.

We also need a new drainage system.

Dudy Noble needs an upgrade in order to keep pace, much less to lead us to the front of the pack. We have a ways to go in baseball, both on the field and off.

Also build new concession stands, redo the entrance of the stadium, add a MSU baseball museum adjacent to the Palmeiro Center, have some statues of guys like Palmeiro, Clark, Brantley, Willie Mitchell, Thigpen, Masters getting carried away by his teammates and fans, and the Swan holding his JUGS gun (sarcasm on the last one). I don't think a statue of Polk should be added because his name is on the stadium.

I'd also try to bring in some more concession choices like Papa Johns or some other pizza chain, Penn's, only because I remember them having a stand in the lounge and because it reminds me of my childhood (Bless my heart), and Lil' Dooeys.

I'd also like to see us put the retired numbers and program accomplishments back on the OF fence.

Another thing I would like to see done is invlolve John Grisham back with the program, if it were me, I'd try to involve him with the museum somehow, like do interactive stuff.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but expand the LFL. I'm thinking like add a tier of dirt that is a little higher than the original people, but flat so you can park your vehicle and still see the game.

One thing that I think we should really do to help build the program is try to involve the students more, especially on midweek games that alumni like me aren't likely to travel to, mainly because of work. Stuff like Greek night- have a toga party, or wear Greek letters and you get a free hot dog and coke. Have a night wear you give away stuff like free chicken tenders from Abner's or nachos from Bulldog Deli. And my personal favorite- have college bands play on the field after the game- if there's a Led Zeppelin night, I'm probably there. Then on the weekends, we need to promote those games as well, but maybe gear those more towards the alumni. For example, Jackson Bulldog Club weekend- if you are in the BC and from Jackson, you get in free. Have ex-players come back and sign autographs. Finally, Diamond Girl bikini night! (HELL YEAH!!!) And for the record, I would do away with the chicken dance.

I'd also have the grandstand Nazi's lighten up a little bit during midweek games. The grandstand should have squatter's rights during midweek. If your sitting in someone's seat, and it has their name on it, be courteous and let them have their seat, but odds are you'll find an unoccupied seat.

In addition to all that, I'd step-tier the Left Field lounge. That way, you could still get your rig in there, but you would set up on concrete instead of dirt (or mud). You could use Keystone Retaining Wall blocks, in that you wouldn't need as much concrete. If you had a huge setup, you'd have to pay twice the amount.

I'd tear down the green liner on the outfield fence, and set up a sidewalk right on the outside so people could either walk around the field, set up an easychair to watch the game (especially for midweek games), or folks could line it whenever we have a 10,000+ crowd.

Byrne came down to Hattiesburg last year and toured the new endzone expansion at USM for ideas. Or so I was told. That expansion is extremely well done, as opposed to the Katrina trailer look of the baseball suites.

I don't think a statue of Polk should be added because his name is on the stadium.

The statues are a particularly good idea. Before your time, back in mine, we had some outstanding players who should also be honored; Del Unser, Sammy Ellis, Nat "Buck" Showalter, for example. Each time a statue is unveiled, there should be a ceremony with the honoree there. I think Paul Gregory also needs to be honored someway. He not only coached baseball, but other sports as well.

I'd also try to bring in some more concession choices like Papa Johns or some other pizza chain, Penn's, only because I remember them having a stand in the lounge and because it reminds me of my childhood (Bless my heart), and Lil' Dooeys.

The whole concession issue has always mystified me. I don't understand how they operate. It seems volunteer groups operate them. The question is who gets the money? After visiting some away sites, we lag behind in both the quality and selection of concession offerings.

I'd also like to see us put the retired numbers and program accomplishments back on the OF fence.

Absolutely! Maybe putting old #1 out on the fence might be appropriate.

Another thing I would like to see done is invlolve John Grisham back with the program, if it were me, I'd try to involve him with the museum somehow, like do interactive stuff.

There are many, many stories which involve MSU baseball, some funnier than heck. Someday, I'd like to see a baseball novel built around MSU baseball come out of him.

I'm not sure if this is possible, but expand the LFL. I'm thinking like add a tier of dirt that is a little higher than the original people, but flat so you can park your vehicle and still see the game.

Who is the woman architect who designed a MLB stadium? Maybe Greg should invite her back to do a review of possibilities, which would accommodate all the different ideas?

If you are going to have a Greek Night, make sure you involve the GDI's. Back ten years ago or so, the old B.O.M.B. (thanks for the memories Arrowdawg) did an online survey and came up with a lot of ideas how to make sporting events more an "entertainment" event. Although it was built around football, the same ideas apply to all major sports. Having Darius Rucker come in after the Spring Football Game was an excellent application of what we intended. Pre or Post game entertainment is a great idea.

I'd also have the grandstand Nazi's lighten up a little bit during midweek games. The grandstand should have squatter's rights during midweek. If your sitting in someone's seat, and it has their name on it, be courteous and let them have their seat, but odds are you'll find an unoccupied seat.

The Grandstand Nazi's don't check chairback tickets much during midweek. I have a chairback seat which my cousin has bought and he shares with me. He has had two seats over 25+ years. The owners of the chairbacks have been notified that in the future, in addition to paying for their annual tickets, they will also have to commit to making minimum donations each year. Most think it will be about $500.00.
I have also heard complaints about the size, services and accommodations of the Press Box. It needs to be enlarged. While they are renovating the Dude, they should consider expanding the press box, building more "sky boxes, and expanding concessions. The idea to build a "brickyard" with tiers in the left field lounge area is a great one.

is tear down the press box area and build more sky boxes and a new press box that will match the same height as the current sky boxes. I can't stand the way the current 3-part structure looks. Do this first and then put the box seats down the to foul poles.

I've always thought it would be cool to bring a little Wrigley Field to the LFL. On the opposite side of that "drive" that runs thru the LFL area (the side away from the baseball field and nearer the track), why not build some nice 2-3 or 4 story mini-condo/townhouse type buildings with big balconies and roof decks (and indoor living space - kitchens, bathrooms). Something like those cottages in the Cotton District. Have them lining that area from the LF foul pole all the way to center field - and it could look a bit like those apartment buildings across the street from Wrigley's outfield. People could buy/lease them for a year at a time - use them during baseball season for games and such, but then, during football season and basketball season, occupants could crash in them when up for games. They'd have their own access road and security, etc. I'm thinking something like the Neshoba County Fair cabins, but actually livable.

I'm just throwing out wild ideas.

Also, where is the new Basketball practice building going to be located (in relation to the Hump)? I would assume on either side since that's about the only place with any space, but maybe not. Thanks in advance.

Put up a hotel or something with balconies. Would also have the coaches offices I think. Was going to be at the north end zone I think. Guess that idea flamed out.

Also, Autozone Park has condos looking out over the outfield. People are always on those balconies.

That is VERY wild, and couldn't see the school ever doing it.
You are talking about building a private residence type condo,
that the school would have to deal with.
First off, yes there is potential room though.. Major dirt work would have to be done because of the hill sloping down towards the track.
There isnt room for another access road though, they would have to use the current road and place the buildings on the track side of it.
But there is room AS OF NOW... but I'm not sure what plans there are for Track..something has to be done with the grandstand structure,
It is not safe.

A more feasible solution would be to level the area out and make room for the 3rd row of Left field vehicles to be extended around

Correct me if I am wrong but I remember from my Turf days at State that Left field is a solid rock mass under ground and drainage has been attempted many times but is near impossible without ridiculous amounts of explosives work.
