For the next two days, the top-ranked Hawkeyes will compete to punch their ticket to next month's inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships:

Only the top three placers at each weight will make the national tournament - so this is just as critical as the 'big show' in March.

Here's my preview for Iowa and the rest of the 15-team field in Indianola:

Iowa begins postseason run with NCAA Region V qualifier - On3

Of note, #1 Skye Realin will not be in Iowa's postseason lineup - as IA Wrestle's Ross Bartachek first reported yesterday. I'll find out more tomorrow, but my guess is that it's injury-related.

In her place at 138lbs will be 2024 All-American (and Charles City native) Lilly Luft.

When I was growing up there would be exactly one female wrestler at every tournament- Erin Tomeo - was an absolute animal and darling at the appropriate times. I practiced with her for years …. She was smaller thank goodness was… and she was the epitome of a US wrestler!

Her older brother - Tom Tomeo - probably has a familiar name. His win at the Dapper Dan was epic!

Blades had no problem in first round with tf but she looks like she is really favoring a leg. That's disappointing but if anyone can take care of business, she can.

I cannot find the answer to this. Haven’t found anything about another session today. Just that both days start at 11 am.
From Tanner's writeup in the original post:

"This year’s regionals have also (perplexingly) been stretched into two-day events as opposed to one. They’ll wrestle through the quarterfinals on Day 1 and finish the remainder of the tournament on Day 2."

This is easy. set one TV to each mat, and the big one to whatever mat the Hawks are on. No switching to find the mat wanted, and 5th TV hooked to computer for mat assignments isn't necessary. I wish B1Gs and NCAAs were that easy. I guess for B1Gs I could save myself work and just set one to each mat and skip the TV broadcast, or use the big one for the broadcast and the 40-43" ones for one mat each and skip mat assignments again. Usually, the TV announcers are annoying anyway, sucking up to PSU and anyone but Iowa.

The ladies are looking tough, but Kennedy's leg/ankle? is concerning. Nyla didn't break a sweat, so it's hard to say how she is. Probably wouldn't be there if it was bad. Several girls with leg wraps and such. Hopefully, another two weeks of healing will help them be healthier.

Of course, Flo had to have technical problems, but at least they shut Mat 3 down instead of making us miss 1/3 of the matches.

They got 2 days so probably could fit it all in on 1 mat. I think they were through with quarters by 1 this afternoon. Blades looked very ginger on her legs at times, Im a little concerned when someone makes her move around a bit.

It felt like they pulled the plug on Mat 3 after 10-15 minutes (tough to say from being there live) - which I agree was the prudent decision. Hopefully they’ll have it fixed for tomorrow though.

Regarding Valencia, it sounds like it might’ve been a nerve-type of deal. They basically gave her a week off, then reevaluated and it was good to go.

My initial concern was that she’d broken her clavicle/collarbone based on how she yelled out and was holding her arm - or perhaps a shoulder dislocation/labrum injury. But she wasn’t wearing any sort of wrap/brace today - and when I talked to her briefly she said she was feeling good.

As for Blades, it looked like maybe a tender ankle to me. But it seemed to bother her much more between points/after matches than during the actual wrestling.

160 does not have the top-end depth like a lot of other weight classes - so she may not be truly tested for the rest of this season, slightly hobbled or not. That said, so long as she gets through tomorrow relatively unscathed I think you should feel pretty good about her having another 12 days to rest/recover before NCAAs.

Didnt see Larramendys match but assume she won. That should make the Hawks 8 for 8 going to finals so far with Welker and Osteen left to go in semis.

Welp, only need to watch the champ finals mat now. Do they have a time for the championship?

Cali Leng is a definite underdog in her match and Brianna is an underdog based on seeds but I would guess we get at least 9 champs
Do you know if they are going to go right into championships after these consi matches?

North Central has qualified all 10. They had one wrestler (Yele Aycock at 131) not make the finals but she just got 3rd place

Once the wrestlers get to nationals, are they reseeded or what they currently ranked?

Looks like they will roll right into 5th place matches. Then I assume they'll run the 1st and 3rd place matches together at the same time for each weight

I don't understand the need for 5th place matches if only 3 advance.
