I never understood his popularity, nor really cared for his music, although I probably haven't heard it all. Still looking for evidence that he was a great guitar player and not just a decent one over-hyped by flash.

Just type in prince's best solos. Videos for days. His cover of Creep at Coachella in 08 has a bad *** solo at the end. Here is just a small sample.

Thank you. I've seen those. I like the part starting at 7:25 in the first video. Seems to be his signature lick. The WMGGW lead is fitting for the song, but mostly flash, IMO. I maintain that he was a good guitar player, but not a god, although some seem to think he was. And that is their right. Sorry for your loss.

Eric Clapton was once asked how it felt to be the best guitarist in the world. His response was "I don't know. Ask Prince." If his peers say that, then you know that he was a great talent.

I like some prog rock because it is has complex arrangements, showcases great skills, and is interesting. I also enjoy and appreciate many other genres, and play multiple instruments. Not dissing. Just discussing actual playing ability vs public perception. Sorry for your loss.

I initially heard a body was discovered at his home and thought for sure some "10" had died under kinky circumstances after he laid the wood to her. Was pretty bummed to find out it was him instead.

His solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps was better than Clapton's original. I didn't realize until late his in career what a phenomenal guitarist he was.
