The AD has reportedly been working on this for a while. Also, I have no idea of the specifics, but I have been told that Coach Mullen had some incentives already added to his current contract. Dan will earn more than his 1.2 mil base salary THIS season.

I am confident that a raise of substantial proportions will be made public soon that will keep Dan Mullen in Starkville for a while longer. I just hope we offer some nice raises to the assistants as well. It is important to keep the staff together. Two guys who deserve larger relative raises that the remaining staff: Hevesy, who has done wonders with our offensive line and Diaz who was twice the DC that his predecessor was.

Do we know what the current salaries are for each assistant coach on the staff? Diaz is worth every penny of 275k and our O-line coach deserves 200k. Hevesy is more important to our offense than any other coach on the staff not named Dan Mullen.

I had no idea Tyrone Nix was being paid 500 grand to be the Bear DC. Holy freakin moly, was that a mistake. Ellis Johnson who was paid 175k to be our DC in 2007(and later offered a raise to 250k before he bolted to Arkansas) is nowmaking 700k at USC (good for him, by the way). So, I say young Manny Diaz probably deserves 300k to be our DC. The issue for me is that he is labeled as our "co-defensive coordinator" along with Coach Wilson. I am under the impression though that Manny Diaz is doing the job of DC. Ante up to 300k for him, and as I typed earlier, give Coach Hevesy at least 200 grand. Wilson probably should be paid in thethe 175k range. I have no idea what our OC and various passing game and running game coordinators make, but none of them are as important for our success or doing as good a jobas the O line coach in my opinion. There's not an unlimited supply of dollars in our athletic department. If I were in charge, I'd ante up an additional 1.5 million dollars for coaching salariesand ask Mullen how to best divide the dough in order to reward those most deserving and keep the staff relatively intact.Dan isn't that far removed from being an OC himself, so I think he would appreciate the opportunity to reward his staff fairly while still getting to the 2.1 to 2.2 million dollar a year level for himself.

for several reasons:
-squash all the "Mullen leaving" crap for recruiting
-squash all the "Mullen leaving" crap for every talking head on the radio or ESPN
-squash all the "Mullen leaving" crap for the Rebel morons

First, let me say y'all beat the **** out of us, once again to the point of our humiliation. That said, you ended up second-to-last in the West. That's not a smack statement, but I want to ask why a coach who finishes second-to-last, only above a 4-win team, would be getting a huge raise.<div>
</div><div>Is it pure emotion from beating Ole Miss? To be honest, both Ole Miss and State embarrass me for the entire state what small potatoes we both are. Our coach frantically points backward to two Cotton Bowl wins, essentially insulting the intelligence of our fan base like "You ungrateful small-times should remember how you were before me," and Mullen last night after the game harped on how State met its two big goals for the year, winning at least six games and beating their in-state rival. Our coach is here in a last-dash cash grab before retiring from college ball, and yours is on a stepping stone (seriously not a smack; you all point this out yourselves frequently). I wish we were both high-level (nearly) every year like Alabama and Auburn.</div>

and begin looking at it as 6th in the SEC. When you've been 11th or 12th for 5 straight years, 6th is progress.

Also, our only losses this year are to teams ranked in the top 12.

You'd have to a be blind idiot to not see that our team has exponentially improved under Mullen over Croom. Not only is the performance on the field much, much better... but recruiting is better... gameday atmosphere is better... everything about MSU football is better because of Dan 17'ing Mullen.</p>

Throwing out UM's record, the rest of the West is 40-1 against non-West teams and ranked in the top 25. So that, plus the way that we see our program is going make him deserving of the raise.

finishing second to last with the first 4 teams ranked in the top 15 and 2 going to BCS games. 8 wins in year 2 following our last decade is well worth a big raise.

it has to do with the fact that he's one of the hottest up-and-coming coaches in college football, as evident by his name being thrown around with all of the recent openings. Plus, while we did finish 5th, please look at the teams ahead of us. Finishing 5th in the west is probably at worst top 3 in just about every other conference. Finishing behind the defending NC, the team that is most likely going to be playing in the NC, the team with one of the best offenses in the nation, and LSU isn't exactly ridiculous. Hell he did that all virtually with no QB and no WRs.

in the SECWest, but we're probably the 5th best team in the SEC. Just such a strange year to have the West be so dominate.

IMO we finished behind 4 top 15 teams, maybe higher than that. Mullen and staff deserve a raise. They've improved by 3 games over last season, and attendance is at a record figure.

We had 7 home games this year and he increased attendance by over 10,000 per game. 10,000 X 7 X $26 = 1.82 million dollars. Now, the tickets may not all be $26 and not all of those are new sales but when you add in concessions, new Bulldog Club members, etc then he is easily worth the raise we are talking about giving him. We have been looking for "the" coach who can take us to the next level and we think we have found him. He just does everything right, so we are quite willing to pony up the cash it will take to keep him.

Would one of you lovely chaps pick me up a few items for my car when you go to the AutoZone Bowl in Memphis? I assume they sell wiper blades and air filters at the concessions, no?<div>

and, no, that one loss wasn't us.

If our record doesn't do it for you, feel free to Google NCAA stats and compare Croom's last year to this year and then tell let me know if you still wonder whether or not "much progress" has been made.

Nouveau riche flashing of wealth? Like most billionaires, I drive an inconspicuous, sensible car. It's a Toyota hatchback.<div>
</div><div>I do respect the State lifestyle, though, of "buying" an expensive speedboat for wakeboarding, with big loud speakers to share Kid Rock with those around the lake, and then letting the bank have it back in September, though. It is adorable how you live. I love that we are all different.</div>

You should read the board for a while before you start posting....... Otherwise, it's going to be a painful experience.

The positive side to this is that the next time I see some guy driving a Toyota hatchback, which I'm sure has a pretty OM sticker on it, who is wearing a scarf and may or may not be holding a European carryall/shoulder bag, I'll know that it's Zipper, the billionaire. Oooooooohhhhh, if only I couldbe Zipper, the billionaire.......</p>

Hell, the dipshits in charge hung a damn banner and all was well. No, it's not a typical SEC West this year, but you had to beat us to finish .500 in conference play.

You had a good year; as good as we've had the last two years.

With that said, of course you 17'ers are on the rise and it makes me sick. Mullen deserved the raise and it seems to me that he really likes Starkville.

It might help us get loud enough to make some good changes. As sad as it is, half of our fan base doesn't give a goddamn about anything other than being better than Mississippi State.

You sir, are what perpetuates everything that is wrong with your university and an attribute to its current demise. Do your university a favor by removing your hands from the keyboard and shoving them directly up your *** in the way that you usually milk yourself to shepard smith's airtime

the assistants will be addressed. The final number will be determined by where the buyout ends up. I hear we are standing pretty firm on a posion pill if we get the number that high.
