Probably should have pulled Laster after the wild pitch.

Pitched 5+ innings all year and got us into the 6th in good shape tonight. He was already on borrowed time.

He hit 6 batters including 3 in a row in the 6th to force in a run. I've never even seen a Little League pitcher do that.

Hell, the umpire may do it for Cohen. Hit 3 batters in a row. You've almost got to throw him out for that. Don't you?

It's a shame to see such a good outing through 5 turn so bad. This is on the head coach.

If rea makes the little league play, it's 2 outs before the first HBP in the inning. Rea is absolutely killing us.

No doubt he is. But you still can't leave Laster in that long. Thank God they only got 2 runs out of that.

He might have hit a few guys -- but that was a DAMN FINE first career start in a very intense situation -- in what basically amounted to a must win game for us to have a chance to stay in the hosting conversation.

I'm optimistic that he/Tatum can give us some quality innings going forward. We HAD to have them step up, they did, and the deck is stacked nicely against aTm. Manage to stay hot through Saturday -- and we're squarely back on the hosting bubble...

Fewest hits OM had gotten all year.... and the most runs they had given up all year....

Agree that Cohen left him in too long ...

It's a shame to see such a good outing through 5 turn so bad. This is on the head coach.

BUT, think of the S*** Storm on here and other boards 'if' State had been shelled by OM. Cohen would have been called every name in the book for even thinking about starting Laster, giving him his FIRST EVER start against our biggest rival. It may have even been the only choice he could make and save arms for the early weekend.

Instead, we may have 'found' two arms that can really help in the coming weeks; sure helped my confidence in them.

I don't agree with everything Cohen does; we bunt too much; our 'aggressive' base running gives me heartburn; BUT he is the one that has to make those choices and he looks like a genius starting Laster and bringing in Tatum, and getting Rea back in the lineup for the backbreaking double.

Giving up only 3 hits to the team many on here claim has superior talent to our dogs had me cheering late into the evening.

I agree. I'm optimistic that we may have solved our Sunday pitching problems last night.

For anyone who was at the game, was it an issue of him not throwing hard so that the Ole Miss players didn't move out of the way? Or is the kid just a little bit wild?

Its almost the opposite. Nobody would purposefully hit three batters in a row and allow a run to score.

I'm a novice when it comes to baseball. How much does a scouting report about a pitcher matter for batters?

Quite a bit. Knowing what he throws, how he throws it, when he throws certain pitches, and his location tendencies helps the batter go in to the box with a plan and knowledge of what to look for. Granted, you don't what your hitters thinking in the box, but the more they know about the pitcher, the better. State's scouting reports are some of the most detailed I've seen at the college level. Don't know if that started with Cohen or if it's always been that way, but regardless the reports are fantastic. But no matter how good your scouting reports are, your players have to absorb that knowledge and produce.
