But read 4.1.18-f-1 in the handbook. It's states:
Teams in their classification will be selected to fill the remaining slot in the bracket by comparing the highest finishing, non-automatic qualifying team in each conference based on adjusted MaxPreps ranking.
NOTE: under no circumstances may a team "leap-frog" a higher finishing team in their own conference. For this procedure split conferences will have their classification treated as a separate entity.

I'm not saying I'm right and your wrong nanner nanner boo boo. I'm just trying to understand this completely...

Yeah so that means that after auto seeds are taken they'll take the next highest finishing team out of each conference and compare their rankings. Seed the highest ranked one and replace that team in the pool with the next highest finishing team from that conference.

let's not get carried away now

Murphy and Mitchell on their best nights are both probably 2-3 TDs better than Alleghany but they're the only team in the MVAC that will play anything near the physical football the SMC teams do. They'll go the furthest in the MVAC I think. Anything can happen.

Then why does it say "based on adjusted MaxPreps ranking"? I swear I'm not trying be argumentative, you just seem like you understand this.

They'll use the adjusted maxprep ranking to compare all the next highest finishing teams from every conference. So lets say Elkin, Cherokee, Bishop, and Ablemarle are the highest finishing teams in their conference after auto seeds are taken. They'll compare those schools and seed the highest adjusted ranked team out of those schools. Then that school gets replaced with the next highest finisher out of their conference. And then they'll compare all the teams again to determine the next seed. Definitely trying to help. Through a message makes it hard though sometimes lol.

I'm being thick I guess. That makes 0 sense to me, and I'm not reading it that way, but I'm going to trust you because you seem confident, and I am not. Thank you for getting the crayons out for me lol.

I really dont think it would be that close, but Ive been wrong plenty of times before. If Murphy is playing their best ball I would say it would go about like the Swain game went for Murphy.
And if Mitchell is playing their best ball I'd say it go about like the Owen game for Mitchell.

Mountain Island Charter should be ranked #6. The new adjusted MaxPreps rankings were released on 11/5 before the Mountain Island and Highland Tech game. These rankings don't take into account the win on Monday. Mountain Island Charter will be 7-4 with the same record as Cherryville. Which they hold the tiebreaker since they beat them head to head.

Who gets seeding priority If two teams are tied for the same position in the conference. For example, Bessemer City and Mountain Island are tied for 2nd place in the Southern Piedmont, it's still based on head to head (Bessemer City beat Mountain Island Charter) or would it go to Maxpreps ranking?

Mountain Island Charter will be #6. Bessemer will be #5. Bessemer will finish #2 in the conference with a head to head victory over Mountain Island Charter. So they will be seeded first regardless of record.

I realize these are based on the current adjusted MaxPreps rankings but they're wrong and will be updated Saturday. Based on what I got the 1AA West will look like this.

1. Mount Airy
2. North Stanley
3. North Rowan
4. East Surry
5. Bessmer City
6. Mountain Island Charter
7. Cherryville
8. Starmount
9. Swain
10. CSD
11. Polk
12. Highland Tech

They will stand a good chance! Hayesville had a pretty easy time with them 2 yrs ago.

Alleghany's much different than 2 years ago. Different HC for one thing, different kids. Their line has better size than then, and they run a whole different offense.

I don't see them pulling a 2014 unless something happens magically but a 2nd round appearance might happen given their momentum. They beat Elkin like a drum.

Starmounts record is below .500 they will get seeded with at large teams. Highland Tech won't get in since they finished behind union academy and pine lake. They couldn't get in unless those 2 did.

But according to 4.1.19b they must finish 1st 2nd or 3rd and have an overall win percentage of .500 in order to be seeded first. Otherwise they will be seeded with other at large teams. That is the one that isn't very clear.

How does that work in a split conference? Cause starmount finished 2nd in there conference but was actually the 1st 1a team?

No because Bessemer beat MIC so they'll be the 2 seed out of the conference. MIC will be 3rd so they'll be the first at large out of the conference. Cherryville can't get in until MIC and CDS are seeded because they both are ahead of them in conference.

Cherryville's adjusted Maxpreps ranking is higher than South Stanly and Swain. And MIC is a #2 seed are they not?

No - MIC had 2 Conferance losses to BC and TJA. So, they finished 3rd in conference. They also are adjusted ranked behind BC and Cherry.

Starmount will be Ranked as the #1 1A Seed from the MVAC. Regardless of MaxPreps Rankings and even though they lost head to head to East Surry. Rams get a #1 seed from their conference, East Surry will get a #2 from the NW Conference because they lost to Mt. Airy.

Therefore Starmount should get the #3 or 4 seed (which means they get a bye first round). Alleghany and East Wilkes even though dropping to 1A division will have to be seeded as #2/#3 and/or need at large to be seeded.

East Surry would then be the #5 Seed

So I asked James Alverson (NCHSAA) about Starmount’s situation.

His response is:

“Looks like they finished in the top three and as the top 1A team they’ll be seeded with the #1’s. The rule for carrying your 1-seed is that you have to finish in the top three of the league overall and/or finish above .500. Since they are in the top 3 they’ll be seeded as a conference champion.”

Also bishop plays prep tomorrow if they win that which I’m sure they will that will give them 7 wins. They beat Alleghany so they should move up quite considerably. not to mention they blanked alleghany 17-0 so for those who are saying maybe alleghany could make a run does this mean bishop def. can??????

Alleghany has been a totally different team since losing to Starmount. They adjusted some things on offense and it has paid off. If those 2 teams were to play now, I’d say Alleghany would win. Any thoughts @KW23
