Hopefully not Germans but this is an impressive effort.

Not a government boat in sight, just working by himself with friends and family. That's the stuff that made this country.

Arkansas' version of DEQ will have plenty of resources to see that this dude is prosecuted for damaging the environment somehow. And I bet somebody from the county will want to know whether dude has a construction permit,or whether the work was performed by a licensed contractor in accordance with plans drawn by a licensed civil engineer. And he damn sure had better have called Arkansas One Call before digging. And where's his f'n environmental impact statement?

Dude saved his house. Time for his government to make him pay for it. Dearly.

Well, he clearly violated 33 USC Section 401 and he clearly damaged/altered wetlands in violation of the Clean Water Act and EPA regulations, not to mention he obviously did not file an environmental impact statement so dude should be punished.

/sarcasm

We joke, but would anyone here be surprised if some gov't bureaucrat didn't fine him?

Just make it stronger once the flood waters have gone down. Put in a permanent pump for when it rains.

I hated to see him blowing by those other submerged houses leaving a hell of a wake. Not cool.
Are the ceiling tiles salvageable or something? These houses are going to need to be completely torn down and rebuilt, aren't they?

allow people back into flooded areas with powered boats. Apparently because of the fishwater's of the world.

I bet that guy would have a problem if people were running by his levee like that.

The water was up to the roofs already, I would agree if those houses weren't already totally flooded... What's another foot from the wake gonna hurt?

I'll give you that. But I've been involved in helping people recover and rebuild after floods. You'd be surprised what can be gutted and restored. Another foot of wake may not matter. But it may be the difference in gutting from the walls down to having to gut everything from the roof down including the attic and insulation. I've also known people to store things in the attic when flood waters were expected to be say 8 feet.

Nonetheless, I guess I'm just too conscientious.

Who is he to rely on himself and his neighbors when he should clearly be relying on the govt for every little thing in life? That type of stuff will land one in the re-education camp.

you really just can't make a post without making it political can you? (which in your case means taking a shot at liberals/democrats/obama/govt)

because it's apparent you're too young to know better or you're too young to have ever dealt with the govt. Then again, you may be 20yrs removed from college and you are a govt employee and are touchy when people attack the govt.

you can say what you will about the government, but chances are that the government (read: us) will end up footing the bill to fix the rest of those homes one day. not some insurance policy, not russell, and certainly not anyone on this message board. it's a badass effort, don't get me wrong, but that guy needed a backhoe, a water pump, a small navy, and about 20 friends to do what he did, it's more like amedievalcastle than a house -- i don't know that i'd call it a triumph of the average man

Guilty, but the Government's fine,... attorney fees for the defendant.

Think it's rule 11, or something like that!
