Gotta disagree. Jimmy Fallon was a horrible cast member as an actor (broke character every time he was in a skit), but most people don't realize he wrote almost the entire show while he was there (last time the show was good). Same thing goes for Seth Meyers and Tina Fey.

They added Good Neighbor to the troop this year. If you're familiar with them you can tell which sketches they wrote, and this season their sketches were the only sketches that were funny. They're the future of SNL. We just need to get rid of Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon. Kate is the worst SNL member of all time. Aidy contributes nothing. The 2nd tier guys are so much better, and that's sad.

Meyers is great for Weekend Update...

And Fey was great all-around. I enjoyed Fallon back in the day, but you are right that he was constantly cracking up. On the new folks, Bryant is good in support, but really has trouble when she has to carry a skit. I can't think of a single McKinnon skit that I liked, but she occasionally makes me laugh in support (German chancellor comes to mind).

Most of the time it made it funnier when he cracked up or when any of them do it. The Debbie Downer skit with Lindsey Lohan is hilarious because they all start to lose it.

You must not like Late Night at all then. It really is a matter of preference.

He is terrible at keeping character, I'll give you that. But he has a special ability to make everyone around him better even if he isn't writing the skit.

And the fact that he's friends with Timberlake means SNL should get silly and weird tonight. Could miss, but if it hits it's gonna be awesome.

I've thought SNL has been strong for several years now, though this is definitely a rebuilding year. Nasim Pedrad, Bobby Moynihan, and Kenan Thompson are my favorites among the current cast. Cecily Strong has potential on Weekend Update, too. (She was clearly nervous on the first show but has come on strong since--but I will miss the girl you wish you had t met at a party character.) Taran Killiam, however, kind of grosses me out.

I love Late Night.

Just meant that Fallon doesn't do anything for me as an actor, but his writing is superb. SNL has been missing good writing since Fallon and them left.

You could tell which skits last night were influenced by Jimmy Fallon.
Hopefully Good Neighbor starts to get some more show time, because their skits are usually the only funny ones.

I agree that Fallon cracks up in more than half of his skits. He did however have some great characters like Sully the Boston teenager. Gotta disagree with you on Kate McKinnon. I think she's one of the best females on the cast. Her "Last Call" skit with Louis CK was one of the best I've seen in a long time.

I agree on Kate. She's really talented. Her German Chancellor and other Eastern European portrayals are great.

It was a good episode

As usual they had trouble being consistently funny but that is an understood factor of watching SNL. The opening skit, Family Fued (with the host being played by the black dawgstudent), and Weekend Update were great.

The Family Feud skit was hilarious.

Brooks Wheelan as himself and Timberlake as Fallon were great. I'm surprised at how great some of the pre-recorded musical bits have been with Samberg gone. Boy Dance Party and What Does My Girl Say were amazing (the entire Kerry Washington episode may have been the best all year). The commercial bits are still going well with stuff like E-Meth. Overall, I really like the new cast. McKinnon and Bayer are funny as hell and if he sticks around long enough, Tarran Killan will go down as one of the best cast members ever. I think he is that funny and is a pretty good actor as well. His Jedadiah Adkinson character is hysterical. Only thing that worries me is how characters like Adkinson, Jacob the Jewish Boy, Drunk Uncle, etc. interact with Seth Myers has been what made those bits so good. There's going to be something lost there.
