The big surprise for me in the AP poll is that the pitters finshed in the top 50. They are thrilled they have most of their team back from last season. They lost their last 7 games against cupcakes including a bowl loss against perennial power Toledo. The pitters are a dead program and should not even be rated in the top 100. They have a humorless, arrogant, incompetent coach. They play in a rented stadium before about 15,000 sleepy fans. Nobody around Pittsburgh gives a crap about their football program. They have no campus to offer recruits. Their students live in squalor. pitt should revert to club football and play in the same league as Robert Morris.
That's the point that most aren't getting. This is a new era of football where the resources (money) are driving results or at least the acquisition of talent. Our performance when compared to other schools with similar or higher resources is actually very good
Depends on who you ask….the pundits and experts picked PSU to lose many of those games.
Who the bleep cares? Favorite/underdog is a relative perception exercise. I only care about what actually happens. If we were a perpetual #1, would you continue to cry that we weren't winning as an underdog?

Everyone knows that, with rare exceptions, "Vegas" sets the lines to try to get even money on both sides of the betting ledger, thereby getting as close as possible to zeroing out payments out and in, other than the vig, which is their profit.
The purest way is for them to release their power rankings without any betting involved. And even then, it's somebody's rankings.

That isn't how it works. Vegas can set a line favoring Team A, bets move the line to Team B. Where is the purity in that? Purity is "A will beat B."
