As I said Davis will make the adjustments in March and wrestle better in neutral and win the match on the mat, this tonight was a perfect storm for Bailey...he caught Davis early, had a cradle locked up for a minute which gave him a point that Davis needed to be 3-3, then ran for 2 minutes against the version of Davis that has 2 weeks of competition in him instead of 2 months. Disregard this result, it was Carver
Yeah I knew in the third period that he was running on fumes. Still he never gave up

every time he called stalling (either a mandatory call like backing out, or walking the bottom guy out, etc.) or the discretionary calls (not enough action), I agreed with him. The mandatory calls are easy to understand once you understand the rules. The discretionary calls he made were the same ones I would have made, at pretty much the same time I would have made them.

I appreciate the feedback Tom. It's always great to hear a ref's perspective.

Sorry if this was discussed during the meet, but what are the chances they encourage stall calls when kneeling in neutral. that's all it is and is as bad for the sport as cam amine and will lewan
Just an opinion, but if a neutral wrestler maintains a strong defensive position that offers zero offensive opportunities I would contend it is a continous stall and should be called as such.

What is with the mat side chicks? I see it match to match. They are matt side and aren't even watching. I’m glued totally in the focus zone. Who are these girls? And yea it is usually chicks.
Sounds like you aren't watching the match either.

The two I saw looking down are photographers and videographers.

You know, I'm typically not the guy to beat up on Iowa too much. I neither like or truly hate Tom Brands, but you really do have to wonder if his job will be in some jeopardy now. My suspicion is that he was already on thin ice with the administration, then you have some really nasty rumors about the Endene situation (that may or may not be true) and now this. I wonder if all PSU fans shouldn't be writing letters to the AD at Iowa asking that she NOT fire Tom Brands because he's great for the university (of course we'd have to get some Iowa alumni stationary and envelopes and distribute them I guess). ;)

I think this match is the beginning of the end of Brands. 2 total TDs before HWY match. Minus Caliendo, no aggression, just grabbing hands and fingers trying to slow down the pace. Ferrari spending 3 periods on a knee rather than using his strength and quickness to setup shots.
They have zero offense at Iowa. None. It’s actually painful to watch. When Gibbons is calling Ferrari down on one knee “frustrating to watch”, it’s bad.

PK wouldn't take his cortisone shot?
Dude. If someone is offering me a cortisone shot, I’m taking it! Those things are magic.

I’ve always thought an enterprising fella could have a cortisone shotmobile and travel around to ski resorts making bank with all the old weekend warriors needing a little help with creaky joints.

Fly in a day later, get your shot and hang out for the day - feel like a new man the next day as you tear up the slopes

As long as you see a bit of effort, you (as a ref) usually give the bottom guy some leeway. Grosso did go down on one knee and speak to him, which I was suspect was him telling to improve (basically a ref warning that you either show some effort or I'm going to hit you with a stall call).

From my perspective, Grosso called that correctly. As I said in my post, Davis needed a couple of cleaner shots in the 3rd to make it clear that Bailey wasn't doing anything. Instead, he took some poor shots that Bailey could block with little effort, and without backing up.
Just gotta say. I have learned so much from this guy.
