First five results​

Penn State went five for five to start its Friday night dual meet at Michigan. The Lions got comeback wins from both Nate Desmond at 141 and PJ Duke at 157 to take a 20-0 lead into the break.

125 pounds: No. 1 Luke Lilledahl, Penn State TF No.23 Diego Sotelo, Michigan, 21-5 (5:06) (PSU 5-0)
133 pounds: No. 2 Marcus Blaze, PSU TF Gauge Botero, Michigan, 17-2 (4:40) (PSU 10-0)
141 pounds: Nate Desmond, Penn State d. No. 26 Dylan Ragusin, 8-5 (SV) (PSU 13-0)
149 pounds: No. 1 Shayne Van Ness, PSU md. No. 13 Lachlan McNeil, Michigan, 9-1 (PSU 17-0)
157 pounds: No. 4 PJ Duke, Penn State d.No. 13 Cam Catrabone, Michigan, 12-10 (PSU 20-0)

The takedown edge is 17-2 in favor of the Lions.

That definitely wasn't P.J.'s cleanest match, but, those things will happen when you are a rue Freshman. He is obviously freakishly strong for a true freshman, he just needs to clean up his technique a bit. It was great to see him get the escape and takedown when he absolutely needed it to avoid the upset. A match like that should actually help him down the road.

I think people are really underestimating Catrabone. He’s going to be very good.

Taylor is the returning NC and Catrabone is no joke. PJ is just fine.

Wow, these negative responses show how spoiled some of this fanbase is. The kid is great, but, he is also a true freshman. I'm not surprised to see how tough Catrabone is. His dad was awesome. He wrestled one weight lower at Regionals and States my Senior year.

Duke needs to wrestle like that last takedown. You can't loiter for the match. Even if you're taken down, you can come back if you're aggressive. Look at Mesenbrink.

I believe they said his opponent was a freshman as well. Although I didnt catch if he was a true or redshirt.

Remember that undefeated Jaxon Joy guy who some here think will be an issue for Van Ness? Catrabone beat him 6-1 last year.

Point is, sometimes the other guy is pretty good too.

Right there is a perfect example of the problem of a Folk Official not calling clear Neutral stalling. I counted 3 and 1/2 minutes of Neutral wrestling - in those 3 1/2 minutes of Neutral, Van Ness is the only party that took a shot. Van Ness took 5 shots - was successful on 2. Each takedown used approximately 15 seconds of Neutral wrestling time. During the entire 3 and 1/2 minutes of Neutral, Lachlan took zero shots and had zero offensive attacks. Not only had zero offensive attacks of any kind, but he spent the entire 3 1/2 minutes of Neutral backing up while Van Ness pursued OR using hand fighting to push off while backing up to create separation away from Van Ness to keep him from engaging OR defending Van Ness shots (again, 5 of them versus zero offensive attacks by Lachlan)..... - but there were ZERO stall calls against Lachlan! That's utterly ridiculous for one wrestler to zippo offensively in 3 1/2 minutes of wrestling while his opponent is constantly pushing forward and attacking looking to score.... and the Official does not make a single stall call despite this type of wrestling in Neutral being a clear violation of stalling rules in the Neutral position.

Other teams get good kids too. Not as many as we do, but, they get them occasionally.

No. PJ is not wrestling with that mean and Nasty Attitude now. He should be killing this guy when he’s himself. Maybe it’s coming off a loss. Just want to see that carefree mean attitude. Will see against OSU. Glad he won

Mesenbrink is a different species. Let PJ be PJ. He's more of a junkyard dog rather than a total psycho.

Cartrabone is going on the podium in late March. That win was actually huge. I think PJ was sloppy BUT he wrestled a better match than he did against Taylor...THE FIRST TIME.

Because the second time he's bringing it.

Saying the first time was wrong but OK. Second time, especially given time to reflect makes the comment just dumb.

Lachlan did what taylor did last week he does enough circling to make it look like hes not backing straight up. You are tight but refs need balls first
