Like so many people, his greatest opponent is himself. If he can win that battle, his ceiling is so high. And I am not referring to what he does on the mat. He can have a wonderful life after playing an amazing sport for however many years continues to do so. Life is going to try and pin all of us in so many ways. And if handling a loss with dignity and class makes me a loser, then I suppose I hope I'm the biggest loser in this forum. Apologies to those who didn't like my comment that he doesn't meet the PSU Wrestling standard of sportsmanship. Perhaps I am giving up on him too early after three years of questionable actions. But if Cael & Co. believe in him, then I suppose I just need to keep my thoughts to myself and trust the process,
Well, it might be worth considering he wasn’t “plan A”. And likely isn’t for next year either

The Iowa fans thought we’ve been paying guys like Alirez NOT to come to Iowa by staying at their school - we should do that with possible Iowa coaching candidate targets 😉
Maybe Iowa fans can do that for us.

I couldn't figure out why this match thread was 11 pages long, then when I read it I discovered that 5 pages were dedicated to a 5 second event at the end of 141 in the heat of battle.

I watched Levi Haines toss Minto into the first row of the arena and not one comment about that, thank god.

I also noticed the after-Cael posters described Penn State as having an off night but the pre-Cael posters, like me, think the team did just great. All of the #1's won plus Marcus. The only person's seed who will be hurt slightly is PJ.

IMO everything is going according to plan.

agree. Levi didn't like him holding on to him, Davis just didn't like it.... combat sport, next topic. Continue to see it then its dirty. For now, next topic. Good meet!

No doubt Braeden acted like a child, but don’t care about your opinion. It looked chickenshi7 to me. It looked like something typical from a wrestler whose coach isn’t mature enough to ignore screaming fans.
This is as dumb of a take (non-Spyker) that I’ve ever seen on these boards. Hardy definitely is not the type of guy who would be trying to show him up. Braeden was upset about losing and reacted poorly. It happens. He deserved to lose a team point, and it’s over now.

Im so glad we got rocco
Yup. This just happened in Stetsonville:

184 - Nick Fox (UNI) dec. No. 8 Zack Ryder (OSU) 3-1

Very little offense in this one. A pair of escapes is all we saw through three periods. Good job by Fox to force overtime against a top-10 foe. Fox then scored a reversal at the buzzer in overtime to get UNI on the board. A nice win for Fox.

Yeah, Levi shoving Minto into the scorer’s table was much more of a punk move than anything either Hardy or Davis did. That was dangerous and Minto really could have been hurt. I was almost expecting them to dock a team point as well as the match point for that, too.

A bit lost I felt in some of the craziness, Rocco was impressive. I’m glad he’s here too

Some thoughts:

1. Luke keeps getting better. He has a legit shot for the top of the podium this year.

2. Blaze 's defense is incredibly consistent. What concerns me is his lack of explosiveness offensively. He has a shot at the top, but his lack of offense reminds me a little of Beau Bartlett. He has longer odds to reach the top this year, because I could see him losing a very close match.

3. Davis is an enigma. He literally was out wrestling and rag dolling former national champion Brock Hardy. But, he had key mental lapses and gassed out several times at the end. Nobody not named Mendez is going to be at the top of the podium this year at 141. But, gassing out and better mental focus, can be fixed. BTW-I F***ING loved when he kicked Hardy for the tummy taps. I loved his fire tonight.

4. Van Ness has impressive wrestling skills, but too many of his opponents get to his legs too easy and he makes too many mental errors for me to be confident of him taking the top of the podium. I am not saying he won't, but he has too many lapses for me to bet the farm on him being number one at the end of the season.

5. Duke? He has been regressing (a little) offensively. Again, I love the kid, but he went from a pinning machine to another Beau Bartlett lately. Maybe its just a Freshmen wall? But, I don't like the trend.

6. Mesenbrink would be a sure thing for the top of the podium this year if Ladarion Lockett was still in high school. Lockett's uber athletic skills (Like a David Carr) gives him a legitimate chance to beat Mesenbrink. If I had to choose one, it would be Mesenbrink. But, I wouldn't be surprised if Lockett upset Mesenbrink. He's that electric. BTW, Mesenbrink has been wrestling at an elite level all year and should make it to the top of the podium.

7. Haines had a really tough high ranked opponent and won. That push out was stupid; it could have cost him his match.. He was not at his best tonight, but I still see him at the top of the podium

8. Welsh just keeps getting better and better. He is like an old elite Iowa wrestler in that he just slowly advances straight at his opponent like a tank on a battlefield. His weight class has a few studs. So, his lack of offensive explosion makes me think more of a Beau Bartlett type scorer. He will be a factor in the race to the top of the podium, but he may not have enough offensive juice to overcome an opponents fast start. Then again, if he continues to score at the tournament like he did against Allred, my concerns will quickly be assuaged.

9. Every time I watch Barr wrestle, I think he is a Bo Nickel clone. Enough said.

10. Did you see Ferrari do a split and mocked the crowd a little after his close win? I mean, if he had beaten a highly ranked former national champion, I would get it. But, given his opponent, I don't get it. Praise the lord for your humility AJ! The next time you pray to God, ask him to make you less of a douche.

I was curious if something pissed Levi off to push Minto way out of bounds. Seemed out of character to me. And seems he gets a pass from this forum, whereas Davis deservedly does not.

That’s a ridiculous overreaction if you ask me…I love Davis, I’d hate to lose a kid like him! He’ll learn from tonight and be fine, he’s just a fiery kid, you saw it the entire match and then it just went overboard at the end. Is what it is
Ridiculous overreaction? I was leaning just a stupid take. But OK, ridiculous overreaction is nicer.

That's what you took from the situation? Really? Davis got himself decked. He then got upset when he got his tummy tapped after getting himself decked. General rule of thumb: Don't get yourself pinned. Additionally: Don't get upset after you get yourself pinned. He fked up. He then acted like a child. It happens.
F**K you and your take. Davis wasn't taking **** from Brock's condescending tummy taps.

Couple comments:
2. I don’t like the Bartlett comparison with Blaze. Blaze has already shown way more offense than we ever saw from Bartlett. Tonight Van Dee really didn’t try to wrestle and it looked like Blaze just didn’t force the issue. He knew Van Dee wasn’t going to ever score or try to score so seemed content controlling the match and getting the W. In a sense I guess tonight looked like a Bartlett match but that’s not how he has looked the rest of the season.

5. on Duke I don’t know that regressed is the right word. No I don’t think he looked good offensively tonight. He looked like he might have gotten tired as the match went on and he definitely needs to improve on top. I’m sure he’ll bounce back and likely be better for the wake up call.

Just figured I’d share a couple opinions.

I thought the guys wrestled well tonight overall outside of maybe Duke. Levi might not be happy with how he performed but he seems to wrestle some close matches from time to time and Minto is also pretty good.

It certainly was, but the “Big Brother” belly pat was pretty pathetic from a 35-yr old who is known to get spladled. Always like Brock… not anymore. I think he knew he would’ve been beaten if Braeden hadn’t “adrenaline dumped,” so he patronized him after the win. Bush league.
Hardy gives him a good match pat on the belly and now he is pathetic and you don't like him, i assume you hate Bo after spanking Zahid?
