Are we sure Coach Franklin doesn't have a crazier twin brother that they keep locked away somewhere?

Forgive me if already posted, but has Landon Sidun given any timeframe as to when he might announce his commitment? Thanks!

He has said that he was going to take a visit to all his favorites which would mean not for a little while yet.. That said things like this can change after a visit so you never know..

I'm thinking our next commit in the class of 2027 is Burnett. He is a high school teammate with Blaze and currently ranked #3 at 126. His dad Scott coaches Blaze and Burnett. His dad wrestled 141 and 149 for Nebraska. It seems like he'd slot in the 133 - 149 range. His final 3 includes Penn State, Ohio State, and Nebraska.

I think Burnett makes a lot of sense, he would have a RS and ORS to use and let the Ono/Blaze/Davis weight range guys clear out, but with 149 not having an obvious heir after SVN it could work out even without any shirts

Hopefully being a legacy doesn't have much pull.

He does seem to be the next most likely. Being actually next ... somebody else could pull the trigger first. Burnett has not yet taken an official to PSU. He visited anOSU in Sept and Nebraska last weekend. Saving the best for last apparently.

Burnett will be a great pick up. Let’s go Cael and staff. As we say full court press on Burnett now. Let’s get him to visit PSU any time now. Hopefully Blaze is trying to recruit him as well.

'27 Dean Anderson has UNI, NCST and ASU as his top 3 teams, he previously had PSU on his list. Just took 4th in a 138lb S32 bracket with 2 PSU commits ('26 Herring and '27 Mangano)

James Whitbred from State College HS has committed, and from my understanding, a recent decommit from another school was on a visit to PSU recently and really enjoyed his time.
Good catch on this, thanks. Missed it on my notifications this morning.

Whitbred was 18-6, S6 this past year. He beat 3 state placers including a fall over S2 Evan Petrovich (who won their rematch at states).

His losses were all to state placers. Onlyv2x S1 Maddox Shaw and U16 folkstyle national champ Tyler Traves (VA, Cornell commit) beat him by more than a takedown.

He'll be in the mix for the state title this year, especially since the only other possible roadblock, 145 S3 Michael Turi, transferred to Wyoming Seminary.

He also placed 2nd and 5th in 16u Greco and Freestyle respectively at 2024 Fargo.

Haven't been following the recruiting that closely, so I would very much appreciate the all-knowing board's take on our chances with Grey Burnett. I know we are in his top three, any thoughts on the odds of him joining his buddy Marcus Blaze with the good guys?
Thanks in advance!

I still advocate for having a thread for PSU recruiting where all discussions of it can take place, and then standalone threads when a wrestler verbals to PSU.

Absent that in this situation, here is Elijah's announcement of his verbal.

Have to think Sidun was part of the recruitment process I know they are close. Brown is real good, I think hes a HWT long-term but could maybe be a huge 197. A little confusing to me as Barr has 3 years left and both Mirasolas have 4 so even with his senior year and a RS hes looking at losing time, but it could definitely work out. Sucks for Pitt but can't hate on the kid for doing what he thinks is best

I think he has full intention of completing for the heavyweight spot in 2 years

He's definitely a heavy. There's no point in having him try to suck down to 197 ever.

Maybe he would've eventually decommitted anyway after winning Fargo, but Pitt did themselves no favors when they recruited Caleb Rodriguez in the same class. Have heard that this was to "enable" the 6-4 guy to cut to 197. Not smart if true.

Brown will be a HWT in college. He has a big frame on him and already wrestling 215lb. Him Sidun and Hutcherson are all close friends. Sucks for Pitt but I'm sure it was hard for Brown to stay committed to Pitt after he got ranked #1 in the country by MatScouts.

He committed to Pitt shortly after winning Fargo at 16U 190 in 2024, having never placed at States before. The following season, he started the year at 190 before moving up to 215 and only losing 1x all year and winning PIAAs. When the seniors were removed from the rankings, he was ranked #1 in the weight class. Since then, he hasn't competed at U17 US Open, Fargo, WNO or S32.

On the Rodriguez front, he committed in June, 3-4 months before Brown de-committed, and he is unranked at HWT nationally and unranked in the 2026 class. I always understood him to be more of a room guy, and not someone penciled into future lineups (or that Brown would have any worries about beating out). Further, I doubt the cut to 197 rumor, as everything I saw out of the reporting from Eric Knopsynder, who is as close to a mouthpiece for the coaching staff as it gets, was saying Brown was projected to be a HWT.

I think Brown got a lot better and wanted to maximize his chances at NCAA Gold/Future FS success/NIL so he flipped to PSU, can't blame him for it.

I agree he will/should be a HWT but theres always guys at 215 who want to/coaches get them to suck down to 197 even when ill-advised. Luckily, Brown picked a school where I seriously doubt that happens.

He’s been practicing with Starocci and Teasdale, could have influenced his decision as well.

Either way, he is a high ceiling wrestler, currently not over trained or near his peak. Lots of potential with him
