Congrats to RB Hunter Thomas (East Tennessee State) and ATH Bryant Grubb (Concord) who will both sign with their respective schools on signing day.

Congrats to both but I hope they don't make a big deal of this. Press. Pictures. Teachers, admins. Parents and Students in the gym. I would be embarrassed for such a hoopla. Have some self respect. Please.Congrats to RB Hunter Thomas (East Tennessee State) and ATH Bryant Grubb (Concord) who will both sign with their respective schools on signing day.
Really?Congrats to both but I hope they don't make a big deal of this. Press. Pictures. Teachers, admins. Parents and Students in the gym. I would be embarrassed for such a hoopla. Have some self respect. Please.

So you are saying that no recruits should do what you talked about earlier? Its strange that you just brought this up when these players and schools were mentioned if that is your stance.See "Joe Thomas". #3 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Or John Riggins score a TD. That's the way it should be done.
Again, congrats to both these young men and GL on your futures.
So now you think I have something against Pulaski just as you've assumed I have something against Salem? Nothing could be further from the truth. So you are saying that no recruits should do what you talked about earlier? Its strange that you just brought this up when these players and schools were mentioned if that is your stance.
And what did I talk about earlier? So you are saying that no recruits should do what you talked about earlier? Its strange that you just brought this up when these players and schools were mentioned if that is your stance.
So let me get this clear, you don't think ANY players should do this? What about a twitter announcement? So now you think I have something against Pulaski just as you've assumed I have something against Salem? Nothing could be further from the truth.
This is a stance I've taken many times over the years. Never mattered where they were from. Heck, kids have press conferences for letters of intent as a preferred walk-on. You don't even need an LOI for preferred walk-on. It's all a joke. And it's almost all the parents doing. They never got their 15 minutes of fame so they're going to do it through their children. Pitiful.
Just fax it in and go to class.
I have no Social Media accounts. Don't believe in them. But I must admit to looking at Noah Beckley's Twitter to verify his offers. He has said it. No school or recruiting database has. What is to be believed? So let me get this clear, you don't think ANY players should do this? What about a twitter announcement?
Shauntclair is to recruiting as HR6 is to the spread offense, all VHSL events being played at LU, nothing should ever be played in the Seigel Center, Richmond, or anywhere East of Charlottesville or West of Salem (preferably LU for all events)So let me get this clear, you don't think ANY players should do this? What about a twitter announcement?
This is strange Mike. I am exactly right in recruiting even though my eval of players has been occasionally wrong (see Trace McSorely). Sorry, VMI gets leftovers. That's just the fact. You may not like it but it is what it is. Just like my Courtland boys are not a program with the proficiency or Coaching of Salem. You do not hope or imagine. You deal with what is.Shauntclair is to recruiting as HR6 is to the spread offense, all VHSL events being played at LU, nothing should ever be played in the Seigel Center, Richmond, or anywhere East of Charlottesville or West of Salem (preferably LU for all events)
Don't try to make sense of the qualifiers or rather disqdualifiers.in the case of everyone receiving offers after September 1st, or VMI offers, etc...
I wasn't referring to you in regards to LU, that would be hr6 who thinks all VHSLstate level events should be held there. This is strange Mike. I am exactly right with regard to LU. I don't care where the Championship games are played and have never said otherwise but LU screwed with the VHSL and they got pay back. I have said this many times. Why don't you guys see that? You cannot possibly be that blind.
LU is brain wash central. My sons with offers both elected to not go there because of it and I absolutely gave zero influence to their decision. Thank God they had more than half a brain.
Of course there are late offers every year. I've said as much. They are simply rare and I only talk VA. What's the problem?I wasn't referring to you in regards to LU, that would be hr6 who thinks all VHSLstate level events should be held there.
You are occasionally wrong about recruiting though. Rare instances do occur where players receive D1 and D1AA offers after September 1st of the Sr year. There were 3 from this area that weren't VMI either that I know about. That's in area of only 500,000 people. There are 340,000,000 people in the country, so you're wrong about this happening 100x per year or less. Statistics would show your statement to be wrong. 3 occurrences that I know of in a sample size of 500,000, meaning you're unaware of 800-850 offers nationally. I'm not going to find them for you, but you may want to change your statement to less than 1,000 kids per year at the very least.
Whether you choose to believe a social media post from someone about an offer is of no consequence. Check Feb 1st when they sign their deal. We know it's for 1 year. Check back in 5 years when they graduate.
You're wrong, they are scholarships. He's 6' 195.Of course there are late offers every year. I've said as much. They are simply rare and I only talk VA. What's the problem?
But I have to say, an offer this late to a 5'10" 170lb QB, despite some gifts, makes no sense to me at all. I can certainly be wrong and have been before but I would put my money on preferred walk-on to JMU and W&M as opposed to a scholly. VMI, I totally believe. I believe nothing from Social Media and every view there reinforces that opinion.
Lastly, if I'm wrong, you know I'll be right here to take the beat down.
No question I have been wrong on evals before and I've already mentioned some I've struck out on. My emphasis has been recruiting and how it works. I'm pretty spot on there but even then, mistakes are made.Seems like you are getting onto players/parents about wanting attention for their hard work, yet you are the one on this site beating your chest about how accurate your player analysis is....should you really have to tell us how accurate you are at evaluating players? Shouldn't your evaluations speak for themselves?
Don't turn into the guy that talks about how things used to be and how you wish it were that way. It's not a good look for your generation.
This. This isn't even in reference to Beckley.
I thought it was comical for you to come on here and tell kids/parents to not have "hoopla" about signing an LOI. Seems like you are against self-promotion........
Yet.....
You get on here and self-promoted your player evaluation skills....
I don't care if you are right on Beckley or not, or right 100% of the time, my issue isn't with your skills, it is with your hypocrisy.
Don't come on here and gripe about kids/parents self promoting themselves over signing an LOI publicly and then turn around and beat your chest about how great you are at player evaluations on a public forum.

Yes, I am against self promotion.
I have not campaigned my player eval skills. I have posted multiple WRONG evals. So your problem is?
In addition, JMU has 6 QBs (all young) on their roster and a commitment from another 2017 player. Why would they offer a scholly to an undersized kid? A kid that NOBODY says can "really sling it".
Beckley is smart. He makes good decisions. He is a leader. All things you cannot teach and perhaps more important than anything else but I just can't fathom an offer from this place one week before National Signing day. I can accept PWO.
GL to him no matter what. Two State Championships in a row. He's earned every opportunity he gets.
Your response is priceless for its irony and a really good chuckle. Please note I think your statement has merit, however, your position is 100% diametrically opposed to the way you actually post and act on this message board. Your behavior here is a lot like the parents you attempt to throw under the bus, in my opinion. So now you think I have something against Pulaski just as you've assumed I have something against Salem? You are 100% wrong here. Absolutely 100% wrong. It's not rare that kids get senior year offers at all, it's unbelievably common. Late offers can come from a position of necessity from a school (kids leaving early from the NFL, attrition, etc) or because schools were initially hesitant to offer based on stuff like kids not going to camps, poor grades, an injury during junior season that meant little to no junior film, etc.
All schools make offers throughout the year. Nick Saban doesn't magically stop watching current year recruits when September comes but that'd be why he's Nick Saban and you're arguing bad points on a message board for high school football.
I am always happy to hear your opinions. They are credible, intelligent and make me re-evaluate. Thank you. It doesn't mean change but it is well considered.Your response is priceless for its irony and a really good chuckle. Actually it is completely accurate. It happens VERY often. You are 100% wrong here. Absolutely 100% wrong.
Check th VA recruiting databases. The amount of players with DI offers during Senior year often require one hand to count. Never more than two.Actually it is completely accurate. It happens VERY often.
lol you're the best troll account. For how hilariously old you undoubtedly are it's such a funny account.
Congrats to RB Hunter Thomas (East Tennessee State) and ATH Bryant Grubb (Concord) who will both sign with their respective schools on signing day.
Looks like it pays to go to school in Lexington! 7 Spartans have chosen VMI or W&L in the last 3 years alone to continue their education and football careers. It is a really cool little town and Natural Bridge, and lots of history, great hiking, and outdoor stuff are all just out the door.I see nothing wrong with players that are receiving scholarships to play at the next level to be recognized by their local school or paper. Yes it may not be a major division 1 school but that should not take away from the hard work and dedication that these kids put into the sport they love. In fact they might put in more work and time then some major D1 players that have a lot of talent. I know for a fact that these kids worked very hard and put in the time. They are both talented and humble kids that broke several records at Pulaski County High School. Therefore, they do deserve their due at the LOCAL high school and paper.
I am not sure why someone who is across the state and has probable never seen these kids play, are so against them getting some form of attention. I know that this event was put on by the school and not driven by the kids or parents.
Yes VMI may not get the top D1 talent. It fact I am not sure some of the top D1 players would be able to make it at VMI. It takes a special kid/man to go there. The players go to VMI go for the right reason, to get an education at a top institution. Their goal is not to play in the NFL but to either serve our country or have a career earning top dollar (VMI is ranked 2nd in the state of Virginia). If you ask me, this should be the main goal of every student athlete!!!

It appears you hold your kids to a higher standard than yourself, at least in the way you respond sometimes on this board. For the record, I agree with your point about "just meeting expectations" and that is, in my opinion, a large part of the problem created in today's "everybody gets a trophy" mentality toward competition.I agree 100% with your final statement.
I have absolutely nothing against Pulaski or their players. I simply don't like advertising a kid that met expectations. As a parent of 3, they accomplished what they should have. No reason to brag on it. Anything less would have been disappointing and a reflection on my parenting. They were genetically superior and it was my responsibility to nurture it properly. I am very proud of them but am not going to publish an affidative of accomplishment for "met expectations". In my family, more is required.
I need to clarify my earlier post. Nothing wrong with celebrating accomplishment and that includes signing ceremonies for any level. My point about meeting expectation goes toward normal participation and participation at any collegiate level goes beyond normal participation expectations, in my opinion.Of coarse kids should take a second and celebrate an accomplishment. For a kid to have played football his entire life and get to further his career is a huge accomplishment. Better yet it was a life-long dream. Even if it is to a D3 school. This is still more than 95% of high school athletes can say. Of coarse parents are proud and they should be.
Normally, all that is mentioned when it comes to kids is the negative stories. Now we have kids on the right path and we don't want them to get any recognition? That is crazy to me. It's more just promoting positivity.
Just bc your not a top D1 athlete you shouldn't get a moment of recognition in front of your peers?
Should I not celebrate a "big sale" just bc my business does not do the same revenue as Facebook or Google?
Moral of the story is, its ok to be proud of your wins in life. Lord knows they are hard enough to come bye.
Of course they were genetically superior. I can't think of many people have a father that can play professional baseball with some of the all-time greats... even less have a father that was good enough to play in the NFL despite not being a football player. If you add in elite Frisbee skills and you truly have hit the genetic lottery.I agree 100% with your final statement.
