I’m beginning to think Clarkson was marketed very well.
If he was all he was supposed to be, we wouldn’t be taking portal QBs every year.

I would’ve been more surprised if he stayed
The way CJB has kept #1 in games, start to finish, I don’t think we can expect to keep many for more than a year.

When Jeff signed HE played at least a series in every game. Rumor is he was guaranteed it before he signed.
Now he won’t play #2
I find that ironic, but I guess as long as you can get good to great qb out of the portal every year it doesn’t matter.

I was thinking Cincy too, but I’m thinking it’ll be UCLA. That’s where both Aaron Williams and Ben Perry transferred to they offered him out of HS also
This has crossed my mind too.
I know you remember this, but it wasn't the defense that gave up 7 points to Alabama in the Fiesta Bowl. And things seemed to work out ok with that happening. So why not throw some bones to the backups, especially in blowouts?
If he really wants to maximize his $$$, he may need to drop down to G5 level and prove himself as a starter. Just not sure a P4 program wants to spend money on an unproven QB when they could get a starter from G5. I don’t like it but resource allocation would say let some lower level team develop the QB and then the higher level program will pluck them when developed.
It would probably piss him off but maybe some “reporter” should mention that pick six, and his guaranteed play time.
If memory serves me, I believe he got the first series of the second quarter every game, whether 3 and out or a 12 play drive.
But again, totally different times, and game, now.
Guess Bailey will start the bowl game..? Is Brady Allen still on the team or has he portaled out.. ? I really thought he would get a shot, he was a hell of a high school QB..
Now that you mention it, but not that it matters. Didn’t Brian get the same treatment? I know he got a lot of series @QB his freshman season even though Leflors was playing as well as any QB in the country that season!
This NIL/Transfer Portal is so broken that I a think it’s likely that some schools will begin thinking about opting-out of any Bowl game in the years to come, particularly if the finances are upside down and the players refuse to participate.
I think a lot of fans are on the verge of opting out of college sports in general..
As they should and as we should as fans too.
We thought it would happen with the NBA and their greediness but they made 13 billion last year. Somebody is watching.
NASCAR screwed with a good thing, changed it back, and still haven’t regained all the fans. And never will. People find other outlets when the lose interest.
I’m sure the traditional “biggies” will continue to draw and get prime TV slots, but I can see it being a 30-40 (maybe less) league. And they will have to figure out “salary” caps, maybe even “drafts”, and CONTRACTS that will insure players STAY and PLAY.
I see others either dropping sports, or ….. sign STUDENT athletes who want an education. Period.
Lot of kids will lose opportunities as….the rich get richer.

Well its not me and that is all I can control. My eyes and my money....so there it is.
Already happening … Marshall opted out of their bowl game against Army for exactly this reason.
Of course, rosters will be expanding to 105 players here in 2025, so that will partially address the issue of not being able to field a full complement of players once you subtract the portal defections.
