JohnDawg replied to someone who mentioned we will recruit 3-4 QB's for next year. He responded- "3-4 QB's? Thats overkill"

No it isnt. You have to realize that Lee is a Senior, and all we will have for 2010 is Russell and Relf. We have to sign at least 3 QB's. My guess is Relf will probably be run off as well to go play for a lower-level school. We need 4-5 QB's in school at all times.

Crooms absolute failure in this area has made it a dire need for us. We have to sign at least 3 QB's in 2010

I really do. But 4 QB's in one class is overkill. 2 max, otherwise you're ignoring other plcaes you need help. Like WR, OL, and ****....everywhere.

No team needs to sign 4 QB's. Hell, there aren't 4 QB's worth signing that would all go to the same school.

And it made absolutely no sense because you would think it would have dawned on Croom....hmmm....the offense is struggling, we have Henig, Rutland, and Ty Evans, maybe we should make getting a QB a priority. You could say the same about o-line, WR's, and ST's.

if they are decent athletes...like most QB's are, they can be also be used as DB's, or Wide Receivers, etc.

I read a recruiting article a while where Mullen told Nash and Brunetti (our top 2 QB prospects) that he was going to sign 2 QBs to make sure neither had a problem with it. However, if Russell and Relf struggle next year, I could see him also offering a JUCO QB (Cameron Newton). That's 3 at the most. The only way I could see 4 is Relf leaves and Russell struggles or gets severely injured.

We won't sign four. I imagine we will sign Nance and Brunetti with the signing of Cam Newton a possibility. I would like to see us sign Newton and either Nance or Brunetti. That would allow us to have our QBs spaced out instead of having four one RSF and two or three FR. Newton could also come in and play immediately.

I'm hoping that Nance can enroll if December if he does committ to us.

Either way Croom royally !@$+@+ us when it comes to the talent and depth he left Mullen.

or could later move to other positions. I don't think you want to devote 20% of your signing class to QBs that all graduate the same year.

you would have to stagger them so as to not have the same problem in 4 years

Mullen: We need quarterbacks very badly, and we want you to play for us. Unfortunately, we aren't going to redshirt everyone in the same year, and you aren't THAT good, so you won't be redshirted. You also won't get to play much, either. So your freshman year will be spent handing the ball of with three minutes left to go in the Tulane game. Whaddya say, kid?

QB Prospect: I'll go buy some cargo shorts and sign with USM.

it would go more like this-

Mullen- "We have Tyler Russell and thats it. His back-up is transferring to Alcorn. We want you to come in and contend for the job. You are a quality kid, intelligent, and have a great arm. We are going to get you ready to play, while we redshirt the other guys we sign. Sign right here ____________ "

as my first post was written.

I'm not saying y'all shouldn't try do it, because lying to recruits is a time-honored tradition in college football. I just don't think many qbs are going to fall for it.

while they're being recruited. These kids have an amazing capacity to believe what they want to believe. And if you tell them they're going to beat out Tyler Russell for the job, a lot of them will believe it. Hell, if you told them they'd beat out Tim Tebow for the job, a few of them would even believe that.
