Nick Marshall, QB, Wilcox County[GA]: The 6-2, 186-pounder is the state's best quarterback who no one knows much about. They may know about Marshall in basketball, as he averaged 25 points at shooting guard while leading Wilcox to last year's state semifinals. He already has early basketball offers from Florida State and Arkansas, among others. The junior got his first offer in football last week from Mississippi State. Marshall has completed 178 out 299 passes for 2,705 yards and 30 TDs with 13 interceptions. He might have the strongest arm in the state, rifling passes on deep-out patterns with an ease that would make some college quarterbacks jealous.

A 2011 QB is a key recruit, and if we're recruiting this guy early, that's really good for us.

I'm going 85% chance we get Newton. And 80% chance we get an additional frosh QB for Russell's backup in the future, and this player doesn't have to be great, but if we get Mason or Favre that would be nice.

So it plays out like this. Newton starts full time for 2 years. Russell takes over for his last 2 years. After the 2011 recruit redshirts, he will start his last 2 years. All the while we've got a deep pool of capable QBs. How could this not be exciting.

Get a good player in the program for 3 years before he starts for his last 2 years. Bobby Bowden kept that rotation going for about 10 years back in the 1990s and won a lot of games.

recruit 2 and 3 years ahead is such a nice change.

However, take it from someone who steals passwords and gets on other SEC premium recruiting boards, there are programs who are already evaluating high school sophomores (for you idiots, don't equate "evaluating" (which is permitted) with "recruiting," (which is not permitted)). At least Mullen appears to understand what it takes just to keep up with the joneses.

including a pass from the 20 to the other 20. I don't know if anyone at MSU has ever completed a pass that far.

apparently there's not a high stock of 5-star QBs to choose from...Mullen still has a ways to establish that his offense at MSU is going to be a throwing threatening team
