Question about 2007 MSU season

Fall 2007 was my first semester as a student at State, so this team will always hold a special place in my heart. I have a question though: How the heck did we go from getting trounced 45-0 by #1 ranked LSU, with Henig throwing 6 INTs that night, to an 8-5 finish that included wins over Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss and UCF in the Liberty Bowl? Bear in mind we went through 3 different QBs that season and Sly Croom was head coach.

Auburn, Bama, and ole miss were down and our D was very opportunistic. Our non conference schedule didn't have Oklahoma State on it either.

We did play a ranked West Virginia team in Blacksburg in the middle of the year though, and got trounced. That team had so many ups and downs it wasn't even funny. One week they would look like world beaters, and the next they would look terrible.

Forgot about WVU. That was LT setting us up for failure. I believe we had a home and home with them. Maybe Stricklin can get us out of the USM opener and schedule Ohio State in Atlanta. It would only make sense.

Everyone in the west was garbage that year, that's how. That was the first year I started following MSU (I was 16) and it too will always hold a special place in my heart... But that season pretty much sums up MSU... Wins when everyone sucks but does it in such a fashion that its hard to watch.

That team also had a lot of jailhouse heros on it that were GOOOD, but like you'd expect they weren't around long.

I don't think

the thought that the 2007 team looked like world beaters ever crossed my mind

I hate you missed 98-2000. We had defenses that were close to what Alabama has today. Probably closer to LSU's defenses though. We dominated people defensively, and in 2000 we had a backfield that ran all over people. We whipped Auburn on a regular basis.

Don't rub it in. I started following in '07 but my first ever game was the 3-2 loss to Auburn in '08. I STILL enrolled at MSU in '09.

I love MSU, but I've lost years of my life from the stress it has caused me. I can't imagine being some of you old farts. At least all I've known is misery.

Unless I'm mistaken, we played West Virginia in a home-and-home because our school president (Foglesong) was a native of WV. I suspect he's the one who arranged the games, or told LT to.
